Treating parents like children

I gently remind my children of two important facts:

1) Their mother is half their gene pool!

2) Children inherit their intelligence from their mother!

I hate Germolene. It smells vile. I use Savlon cream. However, think it was rude to laugh at someone just because they use it. I also detest that other oldie TCP. Also horrid pong. I tried gargling with a solution of it once for a sore throat as advised by a relative and my god did I regret it! The taste was as bad as the smelll. Never again!

I love the smell of Germolene!!
And it stops itching from insect bites whereas Savlon doesn't.
It is much nicer than it used to be, I remember from my childhood that it was a thickish pink ointment in a tin but now is in a tube, more like Savlon consistency.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! My 37 yr old son is absolutely delightful but when it comes to technology i am usually told "Mother I have shown you 5 times already!" When I ask him to write it down so I have something to refer to 6 weeks later he rarely does.
But yesterday I noticed my 2.5 yr old grand daughter navigating her kindle so I think I shall go to her for advice next time.
BTW children get bossier and bossier the older they get....!!!

I got a sort of telling-off from my son last night on skype. We were booking flights out to see them in California and had taken the print-out from the travel agents home to ponder and check with them. When we went back to book, the price had gone up by €300! He asked us why we didn't book straight away. He is probably right.

He doesn't talk down to me but sometimes I feel that I've had a good telling off.

Lucky for us both we used computers at work. We both now have laptops but our Admin techies are our son and his son who keep us protected from viruses and up to date with what is new. We are very lucky. All free I hasten to add.

Grand sons and daughter are all up to date with technology thanks to their schools and their parents.

It must be hard for those who do not know about laptops/computers or mobiles because these days everyone uses them. I actually do not have a mobile, actually I do have one but I do not use it. I prefer emails. You can write so much more on those. You cannot usually get instant replies but who wants to be on the mobile all the time? I don't.

Next time one of yours show you something write it down in a little notebook then you will not have to ask again. I do.

EVERYTHING is easy if you know how to use it! Remind your DD that. Tell her you didn't throw a fit when she couldn't read or do maths. You helped her with her homework. The reason I think they think once is enough is because they are expected to pick things up immediately at school and work. When your brain is getting tired from being used so much it isn't easy to pick things up quickly.

No need for her to blow her top. So what if she has shown you before, it is painless to show you again.

Talking about laptops and children, my GS age 3yrs was using something called alphabricks:

He is learning to read already! Doing quite well too, it helps you to make your own words from letters.

My youngest son is not only computer literate but fully trained. He bought my computer and set it up, as well as paying my internet charges and sorting out any problems. Because of this I only do the basics myself as he complains if I 'fiddle' with it,. Sometimes one of my other sons or a grandson will sort out a problem but even then he often asks me who has been 'messing about" with it. ?

Looking at things from the opposite side: some years ago I went to Australia by myself to spend some time with my mother. She had not long been widowed and we thought it would be a good time for me just to be there. She was very happy about this, but said that since I was paying for the flight then she would pay for everything else while I was there. I didn't realise how literally she was taking this until one very hot day when we were out I said I thought I'd have an icecream cone and she got out her purse and gave me the money for it! I was 8 years old again

....but wasn't it a nice feeling
