Wonderful post to start the day.

Menopaws how lovely for you to have family time & happy memories, it's so important. My DD, her OH & DGS have just been to visit my DM, only for a few hours (DM lives 300 miles away, also she's 88). I am going soon for a couple of weeks & in August we plan a short family visit with DGS2 (due in May).I'm lucky DD only lives about 10 miles from me. I've loved reading your post & the happy memories you will treasure

Whoops.... relate to your happiness. I to have a daughter and 2 grandchildren who live in oz.We managed to get all our family together in oz for Christmas 2015 it was wonderful and the pictures prove it.So happy for you,and your right,it's lovely to have nice posts to read as it does keep us going.

Just read this wonderful uplifting posting from such a happy lady! Thanks for sharing, it truly made my day to read it & be grateful for my own precious family, no matter how far away they may be geographically they are always in our hearts. Interesting too as were planning a trip Downunder ourselves next Jan & im having kittens about the long flight via Singapore! Any travel advice very welcome!

So happy for you and your family. You really cheered my Sunday and gave me hope that my two, who do love each other but row a lot, may one day come together and get on like sisters ideally should.

I want to support what Vickymeldrew said, there are clearly some serious issues going on for your family but you have chosen to look at all your blessings, clearly a very glass half full person. This is a gift but we can all work at being more grateful for what we have, thank you for reminding us of this menopaws and good luck to all your family in whatever they face in the future.

I have just woken after 12 hour sleep and got to go to work but thought I'd pop into gn first, after your comments ladies I feel all tingly and smiley and ready for anything so thank you all. Yes I am a half full type of person but the best piece of advice I got from a friend was to jot down all areas of life with a tick box next to it and put a cross in any areas that aren't good. Only one box got a cross and you can guess which one but many many people have more crosses in their boxes and that is never forgotten but finding the positive, however small, is my key. I have too as I could lose my mind otherwise but holidays like I had and comments you have given me raise me up to a point where anything is possible so a million thanks again and I will post my version of Desiderata later today for a bit of fun! I'd forgotten I had done it until I saw it on my daughters wall in oz and she reads that rather than the old fashioned language of the original!

Aquafish if you can stop off in Singapore for a night then do it, it is such a long flight but it makes such a difference, I stayed at crown plaza in the airport and if you book early flights you should get a good price so the hotel isn't too bad then, puts you in the right time zone so u are not a zombie on arrival. No shot cut for a good flight although I like a window for better sleeping position and the ideal is next to exit then you have room to get out for the inevitable wees without disturbing everyone then you can drink as much as you like and stay hydrated. If you can take a tablet to help sleep through as it passes the time, take an iPad if you have one as free wifi on flight (Singapore airlines that is) for books, music etc but really no shortcut except to enjoy the reason you are going, that will give you your own wings x

Were hoping to secure it today, Singapore air like you & strangely enough overnight at Crowne Plaza on return trip with 3 nights on way out to break the journey & sight see. Cant wait now!!! Years ago we broke our journey back to the UK in Singapore and I believe we were also flying with Singapore airlines - a wonderful airline, by the way. We had a deal where we stayed in the old Raffles Hotel before they updated it. It was wonderful: sets of rooms with big sweeping ceiling fans, lovely verandas to eat your breakfast kedgeree (that was included we couldn't afford to eat any other meals there). To cap it all, they were filming the very last episode of Tenko there at the time.

Might be interested to know that there will soon be a direct flight to Oz which only takes 16 hours not 27! Maybe this might not be the only time you get together. Fingers crossed! Thankfully my son now lives in UK so only 2 hours away now not 27. He lived in Perth AU for six years. Just got his PhD so now Doctor... So proud of him and his family.

The non-stop flights will be to Perth I think.

I have had a Singapore Sling in Raffles but never stayed there, although we had a walk round. DH opted for tea
