He found her moods childish, and difficult to deal with, and he was jealous that the public clamoured to see his wife on royal walkabouts.
As I have said, I'm no particular fan of the royals, or Diana, but she was my age, and William the same age as my daughter, so I have an interest.

If we step back from the evil Charles and Camilla and Saint Diana , if there was an affair in the early years of the marriage it was wrong but a woman in an unhappy marriage and s man married to very mentally disturbed woman I suppose they found peace with each other

For me, what ever happened in that marriage Charles must have suffered greatly when Diana died, enough is enough and revenge is something I will not agree with.

Yes, I suppose, thinking about it, some people do get caught up in it far more than is healthy.

But quite frankly I'd be very surprised if Camilla was that bothered what title she has when Charles becomes King. It seems to be him making it his mission to have her named as Queen.

I think a referendum is the only way to settle it.

No one should worry about Diana being a sort of loser here. It is her son that will eventually become King. Be content with that as I feel sure she would be.

Plenty of examples have been given previously on this thread of wives/husbands who didn't automatically become 'queen' or 'king' when their spouse inherited the throne.

I missed those Anna, I cannot think of one, think it was .george 4 who wanted to take the title from his wife Caroline when he tried to divorce her . Since Victoria all the wives have taken the title queen consort

Well that's fine then - I thought the point was that Charles wanted Camilla to be Queen Camilla, not consort.

Called queen but the correct title is queen consort Yet poor old Albert and Phil had to settle for prince consort . I wonder how they will reinvent themselves after queenie dies

Yorkshiregel I think you're right that Charles and Diana looked happy in some of the photos (I posted one earlier in the thread).

I think if Diana had accepted that he was going to continue to have mistresses the marriage could have continued happily enough and he would have accepted her indiscretions after the 'heir and the spare' had arrived. However, she didn't accept that, had a fairytale idea of what it would be like married to her prince.

I'm not saying that she was wrong at all, just that her expectations were those of a normal wife and she did not marry into a normal family and she was not mature enough to accept the status quo.

I would be most unhappy if Camilla were to be crowned Queen and I think if Charles does eventually become King it will be the end of the Monarchy as we know it. I am afraid Charles has ideas above his station, believing he has the right to meddle and interfere in matters of state. Charles needs to remember that he is in his privileged position by virtue of his birth and nothing else, he has not been elected and should look to the example set by his mother who has done a tremendous job and has been a brilliant asset to this country.

How can a Prince have "Ideas above his station" The only one above his "station" is the Queen? (I tried to do a grin to show this was lighthearted, but couldn't do it)

Once she is the legitimate wife of the king she is automatically the queen. He really does not need to campaign. Royalty have always had extra marital affairs..it goes with the job! Even Queen Vic was 'close' to various men after Albert's demise.
And I am a republican and could be perfectly happy without them. They make not one iota of difference to my daily life.. nor anyone elses really unless they are employed by them!
