Yesterday at the supermarket checkout I stood behind a lady who had a display cardboard box full of iceberg lettuce on the conveyor belt.

Today I have read that iceberg lettuce is to be rationed.

No, it isn't. It has been in several of the nationals with a lot of corroborative detail.

I think it shows how deep is the ignorance of how food is produced and where it comes from in a country where most of the population
now live in towns and cities.

People would not throw away so much food if they knew and appreciated all the effort and sheer hard work it takes the farmers to get it to market.
