This evening, truly. He is washing his hands in downstairs cloakroom, I am in kitchen dishing up. Him: "don't put me a lot out." Me: "I won't but it has to be a reasonable meal." Annoyed riposte "what do you mean I've drunk too much beer? I've only had a glass!" Are there two of them? Are there two of me? Are our parallel universes colliding ??

So pleased my man isn't on his own. Thank you ladies for giving me the best laugh I've had in ages.

I was lucky, my DH agreed to the hearing test and was given some nice new aids and spare batteries. Sadly they have languished in a drawer for over a year now as apparently they weren't "right" so we are back to the saying everything twice scenario. On the increasingly frequent occasions when I can't be bothered to repeat what I've just said he gets annoyed. I feel mean but it's so wearing when I know he's got something that will help him. He tried them once I think. As so many others have said, it's my speech that is at fault! Grrr

All so familiar! If we go out to eat, we have to talk so loudly it's embarrassing. Fortunately, the lovely cafe we found was empty because of the rain. Such a relief!!!

Well I'm having double trouble at the moment. DGD4 (aged3) stayed last night. Her diction is not brilliant and she has started talking in daft accents ie her version of French, American. DH doesn't stand a chance and I am interpreting all the time.

DH has a hearing aid in his sock drawer.confused

I do that Teetime - it's not all bad news!! grin

bella mine has a tried-it-don't-like it-don't need it anyway hearing aid too. I could have written your post. I wonder what all these chaps would be like if we put them all in a room together? Would it be a single case chorus of What? What? What? ?

Bellanonna Sun 05-Feb-17 09:53:57

That would be an interesting experiment greyduster.! They'd probably just laugh a lot and agree, without knowing what to.

Marydoll, be patient. Maybe he just doesn't understand computer jargon? I have difficulties with computers myself so I am often confused by it all.

I am amazed when little ones, such as my 3yr old GS, play happily on a tablet. He has this painting app that his Dad put on there for him, and he has a puzzle app too. Plus he can get Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol when he wants to.

I absolutely refuse to go around shouting like an old fishwife. Why OH thinks it is necessary to have the sound bar on along with the subs I will never know.

Chicken, that made me laugh. We have conversations just like that. It is easier to go along with it.

The more I read this thread the more it dawns on me that they are frightened to admit that they are getting old/deaf. Perhaps we should be more sympathetic....what do you think? The slamming door behind him post made me think.

Topsyturvey, my Uncle had 'prostrate' problems :-)
When the doctor asked him about his performance he said "Well I can water the flower beds, but not the hanging baskets"!

In my family it is me who asked everyone to repeat thingssad On the other hand it can be very convenient to let things go over my head.

Ha ha ! love all these posts ...exactly my (or my OH's) problem ! I am the one who mutters/mumbles./doesn't speak clearly/ whereas his hearing is perfect (well when the tv is turned up so loud the whole village can hear it !) ..he has a very expensive digital hearing aid (like others won't wear that, makes me feel old ...he is 84) .....he has also had those ear phones that are supposed to help (useless) a small audi hearing aid, cheap one from the chemist ....useless !) He is the same with reading glasses ...several pairs from the supermarket one proper pair from the optician (useless) ...when we go to the Doc (who speaks clearly and in near perfect English for him) I have to interpret for him as he doesn't hear or understand her ......the consultant after his second mini stroke said the hearing is not the problem ....it is apparently associated with the function of the brain receptors for sounds following the problems caused by the strokes. He does not accept this and has just this week again said he wants to go buy yet MORE pairs of off the shelf reading glasses ! As the ad says I DESPAIR !....... glad I am not alone !grin

Wife, convinced DH is losing his hearing, decides to check him out.
He's down the far end of the garden, so she says, What would you like for dinner?
No answer. She moves a bit nearer. What would you like for dinner?
Still no answer. Convinced he's losing his hearing, she moves still nearer, only a few feet away now. What would you like for dinner?
DH turns round and replies, For the third time, chicken and chips please!!
