After having a fairly disturbed night sleep,

Me: That wasn't a brilliant night.
dh: , Yes thank you! confused

Greyduster Fri 03-Feb-17 08:17:42

Don't get me started!! We were out yesterday, walking side by side, and he said he fancied a hot sandwich. "Ok", says I, "would you like sausage?" Him: ”Coffee? No, not this morning." confused. Other instances are available! This happens all the time. It is becoming a major problem. But everyone mumbles, you see.......

I don't speak clearly eithe?

kittylester Fri 03-Feb-17 08:44:18

Nor me! grin

Anya Fri 03-Feb-17 09:06:31

Oh this is all so familiar!

Teetime Fri 03-Feb-17 09:06:43

Yes us too - what shall we do today? - 'about 7.30'!!!

NanaandGrampy Fri 03-Feb-17 09:13:02

Oh you ladies did make me chuckle this morning !!

Grampy is not deaf BUT definitely has selective hearing and how do men watch football on TV totally oblivious to all around them ? I swear the roof could fall in before he heard me saying anything !

grin we have similar moments ( but is me, not DH) I have less than perfect hearing, but it does depend on who I am listening to, some voices clear than others.
We laugh about it now, and I have had a recent hearing test ( don't need any aids)
And DH who has very good hearing, tends to talk from another room to me, which doesn't help! All I hear is "have we got any blahblahblah?"

PRINTMISS Fri 03-Feb-17 10:30:59

Oh! yes, I have a VERY quiet voice, that everyone else can hear clearly!

rosesarered Fri 03-Feb-17 10:48:48

DH really is a mumbler though, as I have little trouble hearing most other voices.
All DH's have selective hearing I think, especially when asked to do household chores, but are eagerly waiting at the table when dinner is announced. When sport is on tv they simply 'tune you out'. grin

Mine too. Not deaf just can't hear! T.V. blasting away, also I don't speak clearly though everyone else seems to know what I say. WILL NOT take a hearing test. I wear hearing aids to correct inability to hear high tones but cannot bear to be in room where he watches T.V. as it is deafening.

jusnoneed Fri 03-Feb-17 12:50:32

OH has tinnitus and is also losing some hearing - not that he would admit it. My Dad has hearing aids. So between the two of them I spend about 75% of my time repeating things! Everyone else can hear what I say so it's not me talking quietly, as claimed.
TV has to be on at higher volume than I need it, cannot wait for him to go up to his bedroom to watch something different and I can turn it down.

nanaK54 Fri 03-Feb-17 13:01:40

Oh all so familiar, apparently I mutter....hmmm but only when speaking to DH

grumppa Fri 03-Feb-17 13:05:38

I had no idea that surdity was so gender-specific.

Jayanna9040 Fri 03-Feb-17 13:29:30

Having been deaf all my life I suddenly find myself at an advantage compared to many of my contemporaries because I don't feel self conscious about the technology that helps me, I can lip read and ask people to face me when they're speaking without any embarrassment. I suppose it's because I don't see it as a sign of aging!

M0nica Fri 03-Feb-17 15:23:26

Need to address DH as if he was a public meeting, anything else goes unheard. Has he got hearing problems? of course not!?

merlotgran Fri 03-Feb-17 15:58:49

DH has a very loud cough at the moment. It's like somebody blowing up a crisp packet then popping it right by your ear. The other night I'd had enough so watched the telly wearing my headphones.

He's never on the receiving end of his bark so I got,

'If your ears are that sensitive, don't you think you should go to the doctor?'

hmm

BBbevan Fri 03-Feb-17 21:04:29

I am always in the wrong room or mumbling

Bellanonna Fri 03-Feb-17 21:57:27

Another mumbler here. Apparently. ?

moonbeames Sat 04-Feb-17 09:28:48

that is so funny merlotgran, wearing your headphones, what a hoot! You made me laugh so much. Often when I am walking behind him somewhere in the garden or the driveway he will talk straight ahead of him, he doesn't turn around and talk to me, I can't hear what he is saying at all. Now I just say "ok. or right" It can be frustrating but now I just laugh to myself and have fun.

Got tired of hearing the TV programme throughout the small bungalow - especially those sports presenters making time-filling small talk on their high salaries! Bought him headphones, he used them for a while. I now put on the sub-titles and hope for a more peaceful time.
He does were just one of his hearing aids, but it is tiring talking to him at high volume. The worst thing is - I am worried I will forever talk at high volume and friends/neighbours think I am an awful shouty woman when talking face to face with them - it becomes a habit!

I'm glad it's not just me then! I can almost guarantee that even sitting beside him on the settee he never seems to hear me the first time. I pretty well know that the reply I will get is "Eh?". I get so annoyed at times that I almost scream the bit he didn't hear. He isn't deaf and if we were somewhere where loud music was playing, like a disco at a party, he could hear the conversations OK whereas I found it difficult!
