I thought I would look further into our police services

The nearest office that is open is 12 miles away, and is open mon-fri
Ditto the next 4 nearest!

Next nearest is 50 miles away and open mon-sat

I cant be bothered to look further afield than that. No point if there was an emergency

I should say though, that some of the reason the area was targeted for cuts is because crime is low.
But even so!

Yes, the police do sometimes ask people in the street to make up a an identity parade but don't tell them that they look like somebody who has committed a serious offence,it would be unprofessional, and have most people running for the hills.qGlad it went well Leslie

Who goes to a police station in an 'emergency'? I don't. I dial 999 and it goes straight to an energency centre and is answered in seconds.

It wouldn't be Kingston Police, by any chance? They sound really unprofessional.

When I was working, our offices were close to Cardiff Central police station and I was asked to participate in a few identity parades (apparently we overweight, balding fiftysomethings are a criminal lot).

So glad they let you out!!!!

Don't they usually have a strong suspect already? So even if the witness had picked you out, lesleylogan, the Police would have let you go!

I do think our opinons on 'professional' will vary. What matters is effectiveness rather than a certain 'etiquette' and expectations. Attitudes and practice evolve and change over time. As long as there is no abuse of power / breaking of the law police should be able to carry out their work in the way thy feel is most effective... given the financial handcuffs they are in!

Our 'police station' is a desk in the Council Offices in town. For emergencies I would use 999.. which is as I would always have done.

We were once asked if the police could use our front bedroom to 'observe' some goings on up the road. They didn't say what these goings on were but came and decided that our house wasn't close enough. They were very professional and polite.

We had the same, KatyK The police parked in our driveway until the small hours. It turned out some buildings about half a mile away were being used for growing cannabis. They'd rented the buildings for storing furniture and the access to the growing area was through the back of a wardrobe!!

I was intrigued merlot We never found out what was going on but suspected it might have been something to do with drugs.

Just reading another thread and I remembered your tale so I checked for an up-date.

Nice to know some people still have a sense of duty, well done you for how you approached the whole debacle.
