I'm very surprised the police officers told you that you looked like/resembled a woman who had committed a serious offence recently.

That could have seriously affected someone with mental health or confidence issues.

Well they were really nice about it and explained the situation properly. They only commented that I fitted the description etc.

I agreed to it as apart from wanting to help I thought if I declined it would make me look a bit suspicious.

Sorry to be flippant Lesley but I have just asked my hubby his thoughts as he was a bobby and all I got was this:-

"Ask her if she looks like a tubby Jimmy Cranky and if she does I'll take you as well to make the numbers up".

Yeh hopefully Penstemmon. Felt physically sick earlier on about the thought I would need to stand in a line up with others there and possibly be picked out which may be all in the head.

DS was once stopped and questioned by police when a girl was assaulted outside our local shops. When a report appeared in the paper the description of the assailant bore no resemblance to DS at all. He was a bit worried because apart from looking quite different he had no alibi at all.

There are some police stations everywhere open all night. Crime doesn't stop at 5pm, neither does policing.

Perhaps the witness doing the identification can only be there at 10.30 pm?

lesleylogan has said that she has checked and is all above board, and that her house will not be empty and vulnerable while she is away. I don't think there is any need for anyone to be worried.

When in his late teens, my son was a regular on police ID parades. It was a nice little earner at £10 a time!
I suppose he looked a bit of a villain in his youth. ?

florntine my nephew did that too when at Uni. He was rather disconcerted to be 'identified' on a couple of occasions

Where I lived previously 2-3 of us friends would meet up outside the local church of an evening and go for a natter long walk around the village and outlying roads. Because of lack of pavements or because of dark winter nights we always wore reflective jackets. We were approached on a couple of occasions when mistaken for Community Support Officers and one old lady said it was assuring to see a police presence in the village again

Well not long got back in and all done now. Was a bit nervous about it all. After a bit of waiting about and the odd bit of paperwork I was taken into a room with the other females and luckily I wasnt picked. Whole thing was done by about 11:30. Glad it is all over now.

I said police stations not police services,though quite frankly it amounts to much the same thing when you are trying to find a police station that is still operating.

Blimey this sounds so unprofessional that I would never in a hundred years think it would be genuine I m amazed that the police just pluck people out of the crowd and tell them they look like a villian and 10.30 pm would have sent bells ringing in my head How very strange

My son was first asked by a uniformed police officer whilst he (son) was sat on the steps of the local FE college, puffing on a break time cigarette. Once he was on their books so to speak he would get regular calls to attend line ups, sometimes at very short notice.

Our nearest police station that's open at night is 12 miles away. The local one is manned 9-5 and if they need to summon officers they come from the one further away.

Check it which Police Station, did those that approached have there warrant cards to prove they are Police Officers, and you should have taken note of there names on thee person in the form of a name tag plastic, plus on there shoulders they would have had there number on them usually a 3 letter wording with a 3 figure number below it.

PS they would do it at a Police Station with the suspect being part of the ID parade , check with 101 , and report as a suspicious enquiry.
