Identity Parade

Just asking a general question really. This afternoon I was out in the city centre earlier today close to where I live and I was approached by both a male and female officer which took me by surprise who told me I look like or at least fit the description of a woman who committed a serious incident recently in the City Centre.
I was then asked if I would have any objections in taking part in an identity parade. Of course I had nothing to hide I agreed to it though kinda worried in a way about the whole thing which sounds silly, naturally dont know what to expect etc and never been in that position.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of thing and If you were in that position would you? I know I will as a crime was committed and I would like to do my bit for society of course.

No experience but how exciting, nothing to worry about I'm sure just enjoy the experience.

No I certainly would not, and this sounds nothing at all like something the police would do! Be careful.

When is this parade going to take place?

I thought they picked people really close to it taking part.

Ana Sat 07-Jan-17 19:23:04

Me too merlot - I thought the OP was going to say she'd taken part and it was all over...sounds a bit odd!

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:25:40

Tonight at 10:30pm I have to go.

cornergran Sat 07-Jan-17 19:26:16

Phone the police non emergency number (101 I think) and check it out. Could be above board but perhaps not.

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:27:40

Thanks cornergran though definetly is above board.

grannypiper Sat 07-Jan-17 19:29:20

Double check please, did you give them your address ? if they are not police officers they may be waiting for you to leave the house so they can break in. Please please phone first

It sounds a very odd time to hold an identity parade hmm

However, you could get paid! ask for expenses at least.

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:32:52

Thanks for the concern, though I seen the identification earlier on. I am guessing it is just process of elimination.

rosesarered Sat 07-Jan-17 19:37:56

A lot of police stations use VIPER ( virtual identity parades) but some still do things the old fashioned way,you will be paid, did they not tell you that?
I said be careful, because they should not have said that you looked like a suspect who had committed a serious crime/incident, they should have just asked if you would be willing to take part. Yes, do check with whichever police station you were asked to go to before you go.We all want to help the police, but we also need to be careful.

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:41:09

Yes I can totally understand the concern though I am going to my local police station and is definetly all above board, I was only asking a general question as I find it all a bit daunting I mean

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:41:53

And yes I will be paid.

Andyf Sat 07-Jan-17 19:45:44

In their late teens both of my sons were on the police ID parade list. They were paid every time they were called and that was quite often. Sometimes they would have their appearance changed slightly, spray on designer stubble, spectacles, hats etc.

merlotgran Sat 07-Jan-17 19:50:37

Why so late? It seems very odd to me.

Jalima Sat 07-Jan-17 19:52:37

Let us know how you ge4t on

I will worry now!!

Jalima Sat 07-Jan-17 19:52:53

get get get
My finger are very fat today

Grannyben Sat 07-Jan-17 19:55:23

I know you have said it is at your local police station but have you actually telephoned them to confirm the details. It does seem a very unusual time to ask you to come in. I am concerned that they could be tricking you into leaving your home. If you haven't telephoned to confirm please do so or we will all worry

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:56:16

Yes I have contacted them already

silverlining48 Sat 07-Jan-17 19:56:55

Id parades are sometimes held late in the evenings, if you have already checked and are happy with timing you will be doing a public service.

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 19:59:09

Yes my daughter is driving me up there while my husband and his brother will be my house. No need to worry at all in that sense.

Jalima Sat 07-Jan-17 20:00:07

OK, I have stopped worrying!

lesleylogan Sat 07-Jan-17 20:04:08

Yes might sound a strange time though all is fine, definetly not the way I would have liked to have been spending a Saturday night of course.

When I posted originally I was more worried about being picked out wrongly and having to spend the night in a police station as you never know what can happen though some people will think I am silly lol

Jalima Sat 07-Jan-17 20:05:08

Yes, I do hope you don't get picked! shock
