No he is not on the naughty step!

I ordered his present about ten days ago and the payment went through and I received an email telling me that it was being despatched so naturally I thought it was all done and dusted. Now I have received another email to say it has been cancelled as they cannot fulfil my order! A bit late to let me down like that!shock

I don't know if I can find another brilliant idea, get it, wrap it and all before we go away early on Wednesday morning! hmm

I ve had a similar thing with my daughters present on the original order it said 5 days this has now changed to 5 to 21,and it's now 8 days since I ordered it so looks like an after Christmas present bah humbug

DaphneBroon Mon 19-Dec-16 06:57:33

Not what you want to hear! Finding the right present is hard enough.

John Lewis have let me down twice recently like this. The first time was a mobile which I eventually cancelled and now this week a new oven. I was supposed to get it last week but now it will be Dec 30th. My present oven works but with a door which won't close properly. However I can use it so will wait until then.

syn that is disappointing can you quickly arrange something like a treat/vouchers/subscription to something but tell him the real present will still come but a bit later.

Christinefrance Mon 19-Dec-16 09:27:31

Good idea teetime, very disappointing though synonymous, one of the drawbacks of on line shopping. I have been lucky with it this year but have had problems before.

How infuriating - I do hope you find an alternative.

Is there any way to post a blistering review of the retailer? This sort of thing is just not on, esp. at this time of year.

BBbevan Mon 19-Dec-16 09:36:31

We had a similar thing with a present for DGD. Turned out it was coming on a ' slow boat from China'. There was no indication when we placed the order that this was so. We cancelled and found a UK alternative

I had the same message from Debenhams about a present for one of the grandchildren. My DiL went on their website and ordered the same thing and they delivered it.
How about buying a silly something and giving a voucher for a surprise in the hope that you can get the item after Xmas?

shysal Mon 19-Dec-16 09:59:38

If you can find something similar on Amazon, and don't mind using them, you have the option to pay extra for 1 day or next day delivery. I ordered something last Friday and received it on Sunday morning.
I hope you manage to find a solution.tchsmile

Post is really silly at present, I have had a card this morning that has taken six days to arrive. Friends could have walked and delivered the card faster and they live in Glasgow.

Anya Mon 19-Dec-16 11:35:20

How annyoying and frustrating synonomous

harrigran don't get me started on the 'post' again. I'm sick and tired of the general inadequacies of the Royal Mail and Post Office Services or whatever they call themselves these days.

give him an IOU and tell him what happened ,most of us would understand that things can go awry at Christmas time.I buy VERY early as I like everything wrapped and llabelled by the end of November ,my son hasn't learned from me though,he called last night to see if I'd be around to take an overnight delivery for him today! I did tell him that Christmas falls on the same date every year so he should be more organised next year ...lo

Skweek1 Mon 19-Dec-16 12:13:15

What a pain . . . I've received all but one gift now (one of DH's stocking fillers), but at least everyone has something to open on the day itself.

pearl79 Mon 19-Dec-16 12:57:48

I do understand why some people enjoy arranging everything in advance, but really, how much of the year do you want to dedicate to Christmas? I feel one twelfth is quite enough, so what can't be done in December can't be done.
Happy Christmas everyone.

So I am not the only one! I suppose it is a problem which is bound to happen when selling on the internet as you just can't predict how things will sell.
One of DH's friends is kindly going to take me, on Tuesday morning, to a shop where he thinks they will have what I was trying to get so hopefully all will be well. Cutting it a bit fine though and it is bloomin' difficult when you aren't as mobile as you would like. hmm
I have told DH that I am going out with his friend - and why.grin

Wobblybits Mon 19-Dec-16 15:25:08

I've already been told that I'm getting an IOU as one item will not arrive before Christmas (I hope Aston Martin are still building it )

Synonymous Mon 19-Dec-16 16:55:01

Wobbly If it hasn't arrived yet and you want to make any adjustments I am very pleased to tell you that if the spec isn't right you can configure your own! grin
www.astonmartin.com/en/configure

No! DH is not getting one! He wishes, but only if he could get himself in and then out.grin

Have to say they do look good, don't they!

paddyann Mon 19-Dec-16 16:58:17

I have 20 odd people that I buy for so December would be frantic ,and most get more than one gift.Starting early is the only way

Wobblybits Mon 19-Dec-16 17:07:53

Synonymous, thanks for that, I was in two minds about the colour of the gear knob.

Synonymous Mon 19-Dec-16 17:12:14

I don't really know about these things as we have an automatic but I am sure they would let you two knobs, one for forward and the other for reverse? Then you could have a different colour for each, what do you reckon? Seems reasonable to me with that sort of price tag! grin

Synonymous Mon 19-Dec-16 17:12:44

Red for reverse seems wisest!

Wobblybits Mon 19-Dec-16 17:39:01

I had a friend who ordered a new Rolls Royce. After his initial choice of model, over 6 months he got a sequence of brochures etc so that he could select colours, then leather, cut glass for drinks cabinet etc (it was in the 60's). I think he wished he hadn't bothered in the end.

Anya Mon 19-Dec-16 17:45:07

No stamina wobbly your friend!

Wobblybits Mon 19-Dec-16 18:01:01

No stamina, but more money than sense. Especially as whenever i saw him, he was driving an old van.
