Feeling cold all the time

I am the type who always feels the cold more especially in the winter months.

Sitting at home I always have the heating turned on and even at times find myself sitting next to a electric heaters or the radiators.

When going out to family or friends or I always find I am really cold sometimes leaving my coat on. Sometimes I feel a bit rude also like I am implying that their house is cold, could be the case sometimes though other times I know it is definetly just me.

Would you find it offensive for someone to leave their coat on in your house and for those who get cold how do you cope?

My DIL feels the cold a lot and often leaves her coat on. If she's comfortable, it's not a problem for me. If I'm going somewhere where I think it might be cold, I wear a thick cardigan as well as layers under a jumper.

A thick cardi , thermal vest warm tights might be more acceptable . My SIL never takes her coat off , the Children always said she had her pinny on !(Wrap around apron) and that was why she sat wearing her coat !

I'm the same. Friends and relatives make allowances and don't bother if I leave my coat on. I wouldn't want them to put extra heating on.

(They do sometimes make 'passing out' flapping motions when visiting me! grin)

I actually think feeling either too cold or hot is as bad as each other. When mum hasn't been well I have stayed in her flat. She is 98 and has the flat far too hot for my comfort. It completely knocks me for 6 and I can't sleep nor function at all well during the day because I feel quite dreadful. If however it was at the temperature that I can tolerate, she would probably get ill or at least not function.

Yes I generally try to bundle up as much as possible. At this time of year usually in layers all the time when I go out to work or anywhere else.

Have you a test for thyroid problems? I have a friend who feels the cold and I always turn the heating up if I know she's coming round

My DD feels very cold all the time ( has very low blood pressure) and wears lots of layers.I always have a warm cardigan for her to pop on, or a throw, when she visits.

lesleyberry Fri 09-Dec-16 19:56:04

The doctor did give me a Thyroid test though that was back in January 2014 and apparently all was fine at the time. I do feel even colder then now than what I did then and maybe I should make another trip to the GP again.

No, I wouldn't be offended as I also get very cold. I try to manage with layers and a scarf. People who know me don't comment if I need my coat but it can be awkward if It's a first visit. I try not to embarrass my host and make a jokey explanation. I do have throws on my sofas and am happy for anyone to wrap up. Don't worry lesley, you aren't alone.

lesleyberry Fri 09-Dec-16 20:11:31

Thanks, yeah possibly it could be a thyroid issue. I know I need to get checked out very soon though I am one of these people who keeps putting it off incase they find something.

Freezing tonight and the fact I had to wait 45 minutes for a bus after work didnt help things.

tinaf1 Fri 09-Dec-16 23:47:23

I also think might be thyroid problem worth getting checked out, I wear thin heat retaining vest long sleeved bought them in Uniqlo (they have online shop) only £7.50
They are brilliant.

lesleyberry Sat 10-Dec-16 03:21:52

I will have a look at one of those heat retaining vests, generally my legs are the coldest though.

The change in weather is definitely adding to things for me, Went out for a few drinks earlier for my sisters birthday and back to hers for an hour or so and was bundled up tonight I was wearing a Blouse, Cardigan, Thick tights under my trousers, my Boots, Gloves, Scarf, plus my huge coat and I'm still feeling cold now, after being back in the house for 20 minutes with the heating on and my coat off now.

BlueBelle Sat 10-Dec-16 04:44:41

Yes I feel the cold more than I did and at night I have two duvets and a hottie bottle ( well I don't have central heating) and even in the summer I m rarely 'hot'

Christinefrance Sat 10-Dec-16 08:29:36

Sounds like your problem is a bit extreme lesleyberry, it would be a good idea to have a health check. It's difficult for others to understand I know, I have the opposite problem as I don't like to be in a warm environment. Windows are always open and no central heating in my house. I would hate to go on holiday to a hot climate. Autumn and winter are my favourite seasons. Perhaps we need a share of each others thermostats.

Mumsy Sat 10-Dec-16 08:45:10

I have M.E. so my body thermostat just does not work, one minute Im so hot I have to strip off then Im so cold and thats when I use an heating pad on my back to warm my body up.

shysal Sat 10-Dec-16 09:09:23

I am a hot body, but during the recent cold spell I felt a little chilly at night under my usual cotton sheet. I therefore bought a 1 Tog duvet, but it is too hot now that the weather has warmed up - back to the Chillows! I don't know whether being hot is worse than being too cold. I feel it is easier to warm up than to cool down.
When I go visiting I wear a T-shirt to prevent overheating, a sweaty sheen is very unattractive!
lesleyberry, one of those blanket cape/coat things would be warm but look a bit more like indoor wear.

Nelliemoser Sat 10-Dec-16 09:39:34

Wear loads of base layers of the mountaineering kind. They tend to be lightweight and made of modern yarns. On top wear wool. I have had to acknowledge that wool is far warmer than acrylics etc. The problem is getting wool that is not itchy.

Luckygirl Sat 10-Dec-16 09:40:34

At the moment I have the opposite problem - I woke up the other day and felt grim, so took my temp - it was 38.2 (which is very high for me - I usually tick along at about 36) so I thought it might be a virus. Took it later that day and it had dropped (though still high for me).

OH suggested I monitor it during the day and it is going up and down like a yo-yo - anything from 36.6 to 38+. How weird is that? I have to say that I do not feel 100%. Hey-ho.

Flossieturner Sat 10-Dec-16 11:42:41

I have just bought an electric shoulder blanket which is life changing. It was recommended by my Oesteopath. We rarely have our heating on because my OH never feels cold, but this blanket and warm socks means I have my own mini hot corner.

shysal Sat 10-Dec-16 12:28:59

A friend got me a shoulder warmer, thinking it would help my Polymyalgia, forgetting that I am a hot body. She got it at Lidl for £14.99. I tried it out and it was really cosy and warm for anyone who feels the cold. However I wouldn't like to have to keep unplugging it for walking about without trailing the lead which is long and could be a tripping hazard.

lesleyberry Sat 10-Dec-16 17:42:07

Thanks, some nice suggestions in here and yes I do intend to make an appointment to see my GP as soon as.

My hubby is the opposite and try to keep it to a minimum, have the heating on at full blast on days like this when he is out though dont have it on so high when he is in.

grannylyn65 Sat 10-Dec-16 17:47:49

lesleyb I am the same and have been known to borrow a cardigan !!!!

lesleyberry Sat 10-Dec-16 17:50:51

I know what you mean there. There have been the odd time here and there grannylyn65 when I have wore 2 cardis on top of each other.

Neversaydie Sun 11-Dec-16 09:18:00

I wear a down filled gilet if visiting friends whose houses are cooler than I would like .It keeps my back and shoulders warm and isnt as obvious as keeping a coat on. Uniqlo do good lightweight ones And they fit under a coat
