Feeling cold all the time

lesleyberry have you tried M & S thermal "long johns" they do (did) some that are like thin leggings but I find them very warm - wear them under smart black trousers in Winter (trousers are quite thin). I have just returned from trip to see DM & found her house rather cold although looking at thermostat it was actually 20C - could have done with thick cardigan normally I'm quite warm

I have Hashimoto's too. Vitamin D a big issue and I take supplements all the time and in sunny weather am straight onto the patio for my dose of sun.
Flossieturner- DH saw heated wraps while baxk, Id never heard of them or seen one. Think I'll suggest one for Christmas. My legs feel the cold.

Well I'm so cold today I've resorted to working in my slanket (a blanket with sleeves in it). Our boiler had broken so we've no heating or hot water so the whole house is freezing. Hoping the gasman can fix it later today as boiling kettles for washing pots and ourselves is awful! I do have a thyroid problem so am always cold anyway - I've also recently gone on to blood tinning medication which apparently can make you feel colder too.

Hot flushes are the solution! Lol! I wear layers that I can put on and take off as necessary. I think I would be a bit miffed if someone refused to take their cuff in my house. I would ask if they were feeling the cold though and offer to turn the heating up or offer them a seat nearer the fire (I have a multi fuel stove) I think to keep your coat on makes it looks like you are prepared for a quick getaway from your hosts

Oh and can also recommend the Uniqlo thermals - really good value - and they are light and work really well.

I have a Milwaukee heated jacket, it is absolutely amazing. They have other heated clothes too, such as vests and fleeces. They run on a battery (a rechargeable tool battery) and you can control the temperature level, like an electric blanket. Google them - great Xmas pressie;). My son's bought me mine for mothers day!

My pet hate with feeling the cold so much is eating out in restaurants or 'alfresco'. I really don't enjoy feeling cold and tensed up at all, but especially when eating. Sometimes those outdoor lamps work super well if you can get a table under one!

If you have always been one to feel the cold and don't feel constantly tired and lacking energy then I wouldn't let it worry you. I must be the only one who has a hot water bottle in summer.I sailed through the menopause while others were kicking off the sheets from night sweats I was cuddling my hot water bottle.

Sparkly Granma you sound just like me ! I don't feel the cold as much as OH cos he's 15 years older than me..so we spend most days in different rooms ,,he refuses to put on more layers and keeps the expensive heating on (a total of 4000 watts !) I stay in the lounge with no heating until evening ..but I wear lacey look thermal undies ,,short sleeved V neck vests and pants to the knee under my clothes ! SO toasty ! I think if anyone kept their coat on I would suggest they sit in the conservatory with himself (I keep telling him it would be warmer in the lounge but he likes to see the garden and the birds !),,,,but I wouldn't mind ...as you say, we never have visitors so it doesn't arise ! I suppose I might offer them a pashmina (if a female !) If I am cold I put another jumper over whatever I have on ! After living on a Spanish island where it was always hot, even in winterm that was too hot for me ! Then moved to Brittany where there was snow ...too cold ! Here is not so bad ...we are like the three bears !

I would take a nice shawl/wrap with you so that you can put it around your shoulders or over your lap, explaining to your hosts that you are a particularly chilly person and are not complaining about the temperature in their home. . I have the opposite problem as l hate being overly warm. DH feels the cold and has the house really warm so I am still wearing summer t-shirts. I keep seeing beautiful jumpers but know there is no point in buying them as I will find them too warm.

I hardly ever feel the cold (good job living in Sweden) DH feels the cold, so the central heating is on quite high regardless of the outside temperature, I strip off, he puts layers on, I did invest in a lambs wool duvet a few years ago, it was supposed to keep you cool when nedded, but even for me it makes me too hot in bed, I usually fling it off at some point in the night, but it is always on again when I wakn up, arent we strange creatures!

If I'm going to a house that I think I will be chilly in I wear woolly tights, thermal undies and layers topped off with a thick cardi or jumper. I wouldn't feel right leaving my coat on

Plenty of beautiful warm wraps, ponchos, pashminas and shawls around at the moment as they are very trendy, so I would wear one of these instead of my top coat as they give you more freedom of movement too.

lesleyberry I feel very cold now the weather has gone colder. from now when I go out, I have nice thin heat retaining thermals on underneath - even thermal leggings on under my skirt with kneelength boots on. Then a polo neck a cardie, a warm coat, a warm skirt, thermal socks under the boots. I hardly feel the cold except for my face.
Sometimes I do feel a little over warm if I stop for a cuppa in a well heated cafe, but its worth it.
I will wear thermals until weather breaks in March. M&S has some lovely thin ones.In nice colours.

I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis and my temperature is frequently out of kilter with other people's. Some family members aren't very understanding when our needs difffer. Not my DH though he just puts up with me flinging clothes on and off - day and night!

You might just have Reynaud's syndrome which is quite common. Do you always have cold extremities and suffer from bloodlessness in your toe and fingers in the cold? I have this and low blood pressure besides and am always cold except in the height of summer. I wear many layers and keep my coat on when I need to. Men and women run at different temperatures too, by a few degrees, so it's often the case that the man will be opening windows and the woman turning the heat up. Also people differ in weight and smaller inviduals are often 'cold mortals'.

Just explain it's a medical symptom you can't help and you are not trying to be rude. Peope have a right to that much politeness but you also have a right not to be feezing cold.

Thermal tops are wonderful you can buy then quite cheaply from Primark and M & S are good. They are stylish these days and can look good under a gilet or jumper.

I am sure your friends and family would just want you to be comfortable even if it means leaving your coat on. You could always offer a small explanation saying 'I don't half feel the cold these days'

I would never leave my coat on in somebody else's house as I do think it is rude. I always wear a thick cardigan, especially if I know their house is colder than usual.

If you use a fine but large pashmina as a scarf you could use it as a wrap if you're visiting someone - silk and cashmere ones are lovely and not bulky.
Plus thermal underwear and layers.

But it would be a good idea to have a check from the GP.

My thermostat is useless, I am either too cold or embarrassingly hot especially in shops, unless the temperature is moderate.

I wear rohan underwear including vest and leggings under my ordinary top and trousers. I always go out in a gilet and a coat. I take finger-less mittens and both a light weight fashion scarf and a winter long one and sometimes a rohan hat.

If the house I am visiting is unheated I just take off the winter scarf and hat. I sit in the coat and if I get warm enough I take that off.

I wear boots no sandals and if necessary go with a pair of winter slippers in a bag - they are like bootees.

Buy some thermal underwear...long sleeved and bottoms down to the ankles. It won't be seen under sweater and trousers and you will be able to take your coat off when visiting

Haha, meet my DH who feels the cold like you and even keeps his hat on (bald head). I do put a ban on it in other people' s homes as they do take offence - fleeces are a suitable in-between so I make sure he has nice warm ones and plenty of layers.
