Is your DH forever watching football on TV?

It drives me mad! Forever watching footie then all the pundits discussions for hours on end. I would love to grab the remote and say I'm going to watch QVC now for three hours because even that's more interesting than watching 22 men kick a ball around for half a million quid a week. Each!
Please don't say it's just me. And how do you wrench the remote control off your DH?? It is welded to his hand!
Rant over...

I am in my craft room typing this while my better half watches football yet again. I used to mind, but I now love the time to myself, no interruptions. However, I will have to endure the post match postmortem over Sunday dinner.

The Virgin bill rising steadily annoys me too, we don't have films just umpteen sports channels. And of course football is better on the larger tv so I end up in the kitchen to watch anything else. OH always looks horrified if the remote is in front of my seat and I swear he fidgets until he gets control again. Luckily we do seem to have the same tastes when there's no football on.

I like being banished to another room, there is a study with a very comfy recliner and a conservatory (heated) with more comfy chairs and a radio ( I like a radio in every room.)tchsmile

A few years ago I said to him,
are you watching the football this afternoon? England is playing Scotland.
No they're not.
They are!
They're not!
Betcha?
Fiver?
okay!
I showed him the paper. It was women's football.
It didn't count. I never got my fiver. ?

DH doesnt watch much football but does like to watch the sports report, however, he sits every night from 6pm until roughly 10pm watching all sorts of things, or sleeps, then kindly gives me the remote and says"you can watch whatever you like now" I ask you!
I am thankful I have my Computer and stream lots of programmes, and enjoy in my own little world, sometimes I think it would be nice to see something on the big screen!

Lewlew Sun 27-Nov-16 16:25:32

Get your own nice flat screen telly and order up your own Freeview/BT/Sky/Virgin service as well and retreat to your own space!

Shazmo24 Sun 27-Nov-16 16:27:12

Just get another tv with Sky and you're sorted

mrsmopp Sun 27-Nov-16 16:51:11

Get another TV? Good idea!
And plonk it on the table in front of the first TV every time the football comes on.
Excellent idea, must try it.
It's either that or take it to bed with me. (No connection up there though.)
Remind me when the football season ends again please,! Sooner the better!

My DH is a pro, he flows seamlessly from the football, to the cricket, then to tha darts , the fishing....... I've got my own tv , prefer to read which is prob why I can spell and he can't lol !

Not so much the Football, it is Formula 1 in our house which drives me absolutely twitty. It is not just the race, it is the lead up to it and the interviews afterwards that he watches making it a tedious few hours for me, but hey ho, he loves it.
If I am not at work, then I take myself out so that I do not have to listen to the noise, the excited whooping, criticising, or jumping up and down on the sofa. Oh yes, and the constant noise of the cars themselves.
However, as soon as I get in ( assuming that the F1 has finished) he then starts to give me a running commentary of the whole race.
It does not matter if I want to read or indeed watch a film, he will talk over it.
What makes me laugh ( now anyway ) is his opening line which never ever varies.
"I don't want to bore you, but......................"
? ??
Bless him.

Mine does but a) he always asks even though I never say no and b) I would rather get on with my family history anyway.

SeventhHeaven Sun 27-Nov-16 18:22:21

Yes Jalima, not only Grand Designs, but slso Wheeler Dealers, Homes Under the Hammer, and a whole host of boring documentaries. Fortunately, no football. No idea how anyone can watch that without nodding off.

Growing up in the 70s in an all male household, with brothers and father all football mad, it was wearisome. Couldn't escape the big match, Brian Moore, match of the day, blah. And then also rugby. Have a hatred of football because of it. No escape, not even at the dinner table.
Then went on to have two football mad sons! Still hate the game. Though I did like the alternative commentary Scott mills did on the red button for, was it World Cup? Great fun. He knows nothing about football but made it a hoot and quite watchable.

Mine hates sport but is addicted to the current equivalent of What the Papers Say. Why anyone would want to listen to a couple of arrogant know-it-alls (who generally don't) talk about what will be in tomorrow's papers defeats me. I come and read Gransnet instead!

Bijou Mon 28-Nov-16 00:41:37

MY late husband used to watch all sports but he was deaf and in those days there were no subtitles, I would listen to the radio all the time.

Diggingdoris Mon 28-Nov-16 07:56:32

We've got my lounge and his lounge, with a tv in each. He gets the one with sky on it for all the sport. We only sit in the same room at weekends to watch strictly! I'm quite happy watching nature programs or documentaries, usually accompanied by a bit of knitting or a jigsaw. But we hardly spoke during the summer, what with Wimbledon, Olympics, and football. Wall to wall sport for weeks wasn't it?

Lewlew Mon 28-Nov-16 14:51:59

We have the footie, the rugby and the cricket... then when I think it's safe? It's American football... ugh... and I was born there! I can't stand all the shouting by the commentators. US presenters 'shout' the news at you, too, when you get a direct feed as we did during the election (glad THAT'S over!)

Yes - luckily we have a tv in another room so he goes off to there.

MawBroon Sun 11-Jun-17 08:17:39

Fortunately, no. Football has never featured here.
Now rugby........

Welshwife Sun 11-Jun-17 08:27:42

Rugby drives me mad - did you have the England/ Argentina game on last night? They could actually have shown another programme during the interval it was so long!

gillybob Sun 11-Jun-17 08:52:51

Snap 1974cookie formula 1 here too. Also BTCC and world touring cars.....
In fact anything to do with motor racing. It doesn't bother me to be honest.

Greyduster Sun 11-Jun-17 09:25:20

I was doing something else yesterday while the football was on, but I was very put out to discover that the football was followed by rugby as I wanted to watch the programme about the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. I hate football but don't mind rugby. What I do mind is wall to wall sport. And wall to wall politics, which we get when there is no sport on!
