Does anyone else feel a little surge of delight when "Karma" kicks in and a person who has been unkind etc gets payback without you having to do a thing except wait......

annifrance Mon 24-Oct-16 11:42:05

Revenge is a dish that is eaten cold!

Anniebach Mon 24-Oct-16 11:54:41

But what of good people who have bad events happen?

Corncob Mon 24-Oct-16 12:26:59

Cant say I have.Yes some people have been nasty to me in my life,I have just walked away and lost all contact,so have no idea what happened to them.I say do not let revenge eat you up,move on.

I always tell my family not to get angry as every dog has it's day I even have a pillow with this embroidered on. Some days are a long time coming but provide unexpected joy as you never know when it will happen just move on in the belief it will happen

Revenge is a dish that is BEST eaten cold. If you do good, do someone a favour etc my Mum used to say "bread cast upon the water".

KatyK Mon 24-Oct-16 12:51:33

Me too phoenix I am always saying to DH 'am I a bad person or do you think I did something bad in a past life?' He just says 'luck of the draw dear'.

Helena1 Mon 24-Oct-16 12:56:33

Absolutely...

dihut Mon 24-Oct-16 13:22:27

Oh how I hope and pray, a would certainly enjoy Karma happening to a particular woman!!!

dihut Mon 24-Oct-16 13:23:07

Oops should have said I would.

Karma is more a Buddhist concept than a Hindu one (many Hindus don't accept the concept at all and those who do feel it is of secondary importance) and Buddhism is more of a philosophy than a religion, being more akin to humanism - our duty in life is to do as we would have done to us and try to become as close to the "ideal" person as we can. As a Wiccan I blieve whole-heartedly in the law of 3-fold return - it may not happen in this life, but sooner or later our thoughts, words and deeds, whether for good or evil, will rebound on us.

I have experienced so much grief and trauma that I feel I must have been a really unpleasant person in a past life. I have known some horrible people who have nothing but good fortune and continue to do so. Funnily enough, yesterday a friend told me that karma will get my ex eventually (he left me because I have chronic health) and I would like to believe it

rosesarered Mon 24-Oct-16 14:06:25

Karma (as such) doesn't exist, just good things/bad things that happen all the time to everybody (good or bad people and even those somewhere in the middle.grin)

ninathenana Mon 24-Oct-16 14:35:03

corncob certain circumstances mean you can't "walk away and get on with your life" There are ratbags that you need to keep contact with sadly.
I agree with. roses karma is abstract it's just satisfying to think it will happen to some.

Pamish Mon 24-Oct-16 14:55:41

I prefer to work on this one - the opposite of schadenfreude - mudita. Mudita is word from Sanskrit and Pali that has no counterpart in English. It means sympathetic or unselfish joy, or joy in the good fortune of others.

Karma is certainly something to cling to when confronted by someone who is being nasty to you. However, I have been waiting for 15 years now and the person I am thinking about has married and started a new job. She was hateful and manipulative and made my life, and that of others, a misery. I stood up to her and she didn't like it one bit so carried on in any way she could to make things difficult for me.

I sometimes think Karma needs an alarm clock to wake her up!

Alidoll Mon 24-Oct-16 16:25:23

sarahellenwhitney Mon 24-Oct-16 17:26:02

Yes.I believe in you sow you reap. Big big grin when they get their come uppance.

sarahellenwhitney Mon 24-Oct-16 17:39:30

Nannajay I don't know what your problems were but can you look back how see how some of your problems could have been prevented with a bit of hindsight.

Nannapat1 Mon 24-Oct-16 17:44:53

Schadenfreude and Karma are not the same thing and yes, I do like it when Karma kicks in, which means that I do occasionally experience Schadenfreude...

sarahellenwhitney Mon 24-Oct-16 17:45:32

Pamish I have my own words for other persons good fortune
Lucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!. grin and not printable on this site.

Caretaker Mon 24-Oct-16 17:48:55

Yesssss what goes around comes around

Judthepud2 Mon 24-Oct-16 18:09:46

Unfortunately, bad things happen to most people, good or bad. We can take a mean pleasure in them happening to people who have hurt us and ours. I know I have, and will again ?

Anniebach Mon 24-Oct-16 18:39:22

If there is delight in revenge we are no better than the person who hurt us

Ana Mon 24-Oct-16 18:47:39

I don't know about 'delight', but there can certainly be a grim satisfaction if someone who has seriously hurt us or our loved ones is brought down a peg or two. It's human nature, and we don't all aspire to be saints!
