Songs that make the tears flow

Definitely "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", although I prefer the Stereophonics version to Roberta Flack, and "Don't Want to Miss A Thing" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkK8g6FMEXE) by Aerosmith as it seems incredible to me that a heavy-metal rock band could produce such a poignant love song.

Driving home from work just after my dad's funeral playing Neil Diamond's Stones cd (bought because he'd asked for Chealsea Morning to be played at the funeral, I was surprised to find myself crying not at that but at 'The last thing on my mind'. (I should have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind). Still gets me.

Oh that one is a killer Judthepud2. I always think it sounds like he is really living the situation. Had to listen to it all the way through and now feel thoroughly .

Has anyone heard "Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day" by Alan Jackson?

It is a song about where you were and what you were doing when the planes hit the twin towers 9/11. Very sad but the words are so true.

lefthanded I love that Aerosmith song too.

"Autumn Leaves" - my dear departed brother used to have a special way of singing this.
"Wonderful World" - my Dad's favourite, played at his funeral. We sang it in choir last year, it took me weeks to sing without snivelling, but I concentrated on the music and not the words and finally got over it.
"The Folk who Live on the Hill" - Peggy Lee sings this so beautifully, and the verse ending "Baby and Joe who used to be Jack and Jill" always sets me off!
"Still Magic" by Peter Skellern - we play this in the car, my husband loves it and always pats me on the arm when this comes on, the words say it all.
"Moonlight Serenade" Glenn Miller - one of Mum's special tunes, and played at her funeral.
"Stop Right There" - Spice Girls - now for a happy tune, my granddaughters, now grown-up, used to sit on the back seat singing this one, complete with actions.
It has been lovely to read your special tunes, the song about the father was very moving, almost as bad as "The Living Years". Now I'm away to find the tissues!

Remember When sung by Alan Jackson says it all for me!

We played "Autumn Leaves" at my mother's funeral. Apparently it was the song that was playing when she first danced with my father (and he fell flat on his back - probably had one too many!). During her final days in hospital we were talking about favourite songs and she mentioned it. I started to sing it and she quipped, "Well it used to be my favourite!" Critical to the end!!!

I am not familiar with that Alan Jackson song Jangran99 I am a huge fan of his so will look it up this evening.

Something inside so strong by the Rock Choir always gets to me.

Yes I did find it thank you and I agree lovely words and very moving too. I actually already had it on his GH(2) CD too. Apparently it is autobiographical and was written to describe how he and his wife look back over their lives, how they first fell in love and raising their children etc.

Once in Royal Davids City particularly the line that says "When at last his children crowned, All in white shall wait around". I can't even write it without getting choked up. Don't know why

Did anyone else hear this wonderful Radio 4 programme yesterday about "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"? Listening to Julie Young describing how she felt about the song and her child Reagan was just heartbreaking. Reagan suffered brain damage when he was 9 months old and sadly died last year aged 15. Although this beautiful song was written as a love song for a woman (Peggy Seeger) I think every mother can relate it to how they feel about their child.
