Sometimes he just slips into my mind and I get a bit of a sad feeling, I suppose for the life that once was, if that makes sense. I am imagining him how he was (17 and gorgeous) and now he'll be in his 60s like me and I try and imagine what he'll look like..... anyone else have these daft thoughts. smile

Willow500 Wed 07-Sept-16 10:24:11

Yep - but then I did marry mine and can see what he looks like at 62 grin

ginny Wed 07-Sept-16 10:27:19

Still in touch with mine. We haven't met for more than thirty years but always write each other a letter at Christmas with all our news. I first met him on the day we started school in 1959.

Anniebach Wed 07-Sept-16 10:27:49

Yes recently , when I learned he had died I did start thinking about him

fiorentina51 Wed 07-Sept-16 10:33:05

Yes, still see him from time to time via meet ups with mutual friends. He's still a nice bloke if a bit of a pompous old gent. I was heartbroken when he dumped me but then I met the next great love of my life.... and reader, I married him. ❤

Met him at 19 and the rest is history
Married for 35 yrs in october.
Now the first chap I fancied is a different story.
He looked like a pop poster on my bedroom wall. Just a coincidence of course grin

Occasionally wonder what would of been had he not been a manager destined for great things and I was a junior who stupidly got herself pregnant by my future husband just as he (manager) told me how he felt. We went our separate ways of course but I do wonder how his life turned out and how differently mine would of been. Of course I now wouldn't have it any other way and my life turned out to be a good one, just different.

No. I loved him to distraction and he said he loved me, but he was a liar, a fantasist with criminal tendencies and married! He broke my heart and went back to his wife in Scotland! Some time after, he tried to get me to take him back, but by then I had met DH, who wanted to punch his lites out. I wish I'd let him!

KatyK Wed 07-Sept-16 12:18:46

Well, my first love was when I was 16. I used to go to bed at night and ask God to 'please let me marry .. and I would say his name'. Well, I didn't marry him, but my DH has exactly the same name (christian name and surname). Strange but true smile

KatyK Wed 07-Sept-16 12:19:10

And it's not a particularly common name.

Grannyknot Wed 07-Sept-16 12:48:11

Yes, I do. Mainly because we were so happy, and so well suited.

But I decided I was too young to be so serious and broke up with him. shockconfused

harrigran Wed 07-Sept-16 12:49:27

Yes I do and "reader I married him", we have been together for 53 years and married for 49 ☺

ninathenana Wed 07-Sept-16 12:53:47

Sometimes I have too, as I've been married to him for 41 yrs. grin
I do think about my first proper boyfriend, whom I thought at the time I loved. I belong to our local history page on FB and places we went and people we knew are often mentioned on there.

Gagagran Wed 07-Sept-16 13:06:08

Yes I do often. I would love to know what his life has been like. I finished with him because I wasn't ready at 18 to settle down and he wanted to do. He was 4 years older than me. His Mother wrote me a letter saying how cruel I was to break her son's heart and I feel sorry if that's what I did. I wish I could just speak to him and apologise. Can't find him on social media but I have found his address on 192.com.

Wobblybits Wed 07-Sept-16 13:07:33

Yes, daily, she is 70 tomorrow.

obieone Wed 07-Sept-16 13:33:43

Wow Katyk!

Yes occasionally. We were from different social backgrounds. And I dont care what anyone else thinks, I think it does matter in most cases.

We still do see each other occasionally at dos. And it always feels a little bit awkward.

But it has got to the stage now where I even forget his name!

M0nica Wed 07-Sept-16 14:17:29

Yes, especially as he died recently, I discovered purely by chance and when I read his obituary it showed that the person I remember and fell for so heavily 50 years ago never lost those elements of his personality that I fell for and went on to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Finding out about his death has meant that like lemondrizzle I have moments of sadness when anything reminds me of him.

I married my second love and have been happily married a few years short of 50.

lemondrizzle Wed 07-Sept-16 15:35:15

I think nostalgia for my lost youth probably plays a big part. I'm just a sentimental old fool. I've been happily married for 40 odd years, but a little part of me thinks back to those carefree, child free, grandchildren free days when all I had to worry about was what I was wearing that night. How easy life was when we were young....saying that I wouldn't have it any other way. smile

millymouge Wed 07-Sept-16 15:46:14

Yes I do, but not in a regretful way. I can still remember the house where he lived and some years ago when in the locality actually drove past it. Anyway we were both too young for it to be serious but breaking up hurt very much at the time. I have been married to a wonderful man for over 50 years this year so things do turn out for the best smile

cornergran Wed 07-Sept-16 15:59:18

I do now and again, more out of curiousity than anything. No regrets about my long marriage so no sadness.

KatyK Wed 07-Sept-16 16:47:12

Obieone Yes it's certainly a coincidence. In those days I was a staunch Roman Catholic due to my upbringing, hence the praying at night. I am not now - perhaps I should be smile

morethan2 Wed 07-Sept-16 17:08:04

Nope, long forgotten lost in the midst of time.

numberplease Wed 07-Sept-16 17:10:47

I never thought about mine for many years, until an old schoolfriend rang me from Australia, we hadn`t spoken for 50 years, and she mentioned about me going out with T..... W..... Now I`m wondering where he is and what he`s done with his life, that`s if he`s still actually with us!

TriciaF Wed 07-Sept-16 17:22:21

I've sometimes thought about my first love - we met at school, he was a little older than me and went off to do his National Service.
When he came back on leave he had some 'new ideas' (blush then said we should get married. I was very naive.
But my parents wouldn't hear of it.
I've tried to trace him, just out of curiosity because I'm content with my husband of nearly 40 years now.

Envious Wed 07-Sept-16 17:37:41

Yes sometimes cause he did very well for himself. Broke my heart at 16. Was such a shock to have someone who claimed to love me to bits drop me like a hot potato. Hard lesson at 16. We even talked marriage!
