There's cake and there's cake. I'm sure that heavily iced, over-sweetened cakes don't do a lot of good, but what about the homely fruit cake, made with wholemeal flour, fresh eggs, and with some pureed orange or apple folded in? That's just one example of a nourishing and healthful sweet treat.
There are loads of recipes out there which won't raise your cholesterol or your weight too much, so dig in and enjoy.
I have a theory about being fat - it's worrying about it that causes it. Trying to diet all the time always leads to massive binges and poor food choices, so plan sensible meals, and eat LOTS until you feel happy and satisfied. Have your cake for dessert or afternoon tea,and share it with friends and family- much more enjoyable than eating it behind the kitchen door.
There are too many 'SHOULDN'TS' in the world today, and that includes cake - 'shouldn'ts' make us unhappy, so bin them and be joyful.
