Time for me to go

Just wanted to say that I will no longer be posting on these forums as I have decided they are not for me, for one reason or another.

So, I'm not doing a flounce, lol, just in case anyone actually notices.

I've decided I need to find somewhere else which is maybe more interactive. Maybe something a bit smaller and more local?

So, I wish you and the site all the best.

I like the forum , but you can please some people some of the time ............

Jane10 Mon 05-Sept-16 09:01:37

I've found GN so comforting at times. Its been great to find its not just me that thinks various things (minds gone a blank as I try to remember examples-och!)

Judthepud2 Mon 05-Sept-16 10:11:53

I am the best on GN at killing off threads! Having just looked back at 'I'm on', the evidence is clearly to be seen. So.....here goes grin

merlotgran Mon 05-Sept-16 10:28:31

I'd like to say I've lost count of the threads I've managed to polish off but I haven't bothered counting them.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 10:32:30

Quoting aggie, "I like the forum , but you can please some people some of the time ............"

No! Take it as it is, or leave it. hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 10:36:34

I worded that badly.

I am not suggesting you leave GN aggie! Never! shock

Just accept the site as it is.

Jalima Mon 05-Sept-16 11:01:29

peaceatlast (great name btw!)

I think GN is like a lot of things in life - you have to stick it out for quite a while to find out if it suits you or not.

As for saying good post to other posters; I have done that, meaning that I was probably thinking the same but didn't express it as well grin

If a thread is argumentative and you don't like it you can always retreat, either for a while or altogether. There are lots of threads that aren't so contentious.

Greyduster Mon 05-Sept-16 11:27:03

In a previous incarnation I left GN - not in a strop - but because I hated the descent into playground politics and, a lot of the time, the way some posters appeared to be being hounded almost. Not me, I might add. I was sometimes castigated and widely ignored, but it wasn't that which bothered me - just the prevailing atmosphere at the time. I came creeping back two years later, to a much better atmosphere, having spent most of my forum time on an almost all male site connected with my favourite pastime. If you think women can be nasty to each other, you don't know the half of it when blokes get going. But in among the vitriol was a lot of laugh out loud humour, support and very good advice (like GN!). I don't contribute to that forum much anymore but I still stay around because I learn a lot. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that you should expect mixed responses from any forum. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.

There are some topics on GN that I avoid. Sometimes I am tempted onto them when I read a post, but I usually regret it - why volunteer to have your blood pressure raised? There are posters who seem to be adrenaline junkies, and opposition just adds to the fix. On the other hand, sometimes there is something useful to say (or something that is just asking to be said).

You have to choose your threads. No different from real life - there are people you don't choose to interact with, and battles you don't choose to take on. Each poster has their own view, and their own level of involvement.

angiebaby Mon 05-Sept-16 12:19:36

hello....im back,,,had a break,,,,,,,do you ever want to run away from everybody and everything, i hate people sometimes,,,,people let you down,,,was going to get a dog,,,but too much trouble,,,,,i have my crafts but lack motivation sometimes,,,need a freind but people are very flippant,,,,,what can i do,,,,,,,,

Elegran Mon 05-Sept-16 13:15:29

angiebaby Sorry to hear you have had a bad time. All you can do is pick yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again! Are you on any crafts forums? You'll get chat in those, as well as hints and links. Do you sell your crafts? If you do, or if you want to buy handmade things from other people (definitely not the same as home-made, that has a quite different ring to it) then look on Folksy or [[Etsy ink{https://www.etsy.com/uk/\www.etsy.com/uk]]/} hundreds of thousands of things for sale, by thousands of small craftworkers.

(Ummmmm - don't take this the wrong way, but I find that your posts can be very tiring and breathless to read. It is the ,,,,,patches of commas,,,,,,,,,,,rather jumpy bits of text,,,,,,,no connections,,,,all following on,,,,,no breaks,,,,,,,no paragraphs,,,,,all one block without punctuation,,,,,,,,pauses for breath,,,,,,,takes some concentration to read.

Why not just put a full stop to one sentence and start another? And use the Enter key from time to time to chop it up into paragraphs? Sorry if I sound like an English teacher, but if it is hard going to work it out and understand, then fewer people will read and reply.)

Elegran Mon 05-Sept-16 13:18:04

I got that link wrong, it should have been folksy.com or etsy.com/uk/

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 17:34:46

angiebaby a lot of us could have written that post at times. I know I could have.

D'you want to talk a bit more?

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 17:37:22

I don't even have crafts. Too lazy, can't be arsed, or don't see the point.

Definitely want to run away sometimes. But we'd take it all with us.

DanniRae Mon 05-Sept-16 18:46:40

Glad to know that other people don't like it when they kill a thread. It happened to me on a Good Morning Tuesday (for example). I said "Good Morning from South London etc" and NOTHING. I thought well I'm never posting on there again - now I realise it was nothing personal I was just being over sensitive. I also try to never post if I think I will be 'jumped on' - same reason. BUT I am so glad I discovered Gransnet -I love all the helpful advice, funny posts etc and always look forward to getting up to date each morning.

Elegran Mon 05-Sept-16 18:59:33

I think we have all killed threads at one time or another - or thought we had. It does feel as though everyone has left the room in disgust, but really it is just that the thread has come to a natural end, nothing much more to be said and something new on another thread has caught everyone's eye.

aggie Mon 05-Sept-16 19:22:31

Jing I. am not leaving lol

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 19:23:59

I didn't mean it like that! grin Soz.

Jalima Mon 05-Sept-16 20:05:57

The point of crafts is that they can stop you having the evening munchies.
(concentrating on the tv and busy fingers doing a craft is enough multi-tasking for my brain.)

Ana Mon 05-Sept-16 20:11:24

Every time I see the title of this thread that song comes into my head 'Time to say Goodbye'...

(Just thought I'd let you all know that! grin)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 20:14:31

Oh I love that song!

Jalima Mon 05-Sept-16 20:23:00

I usually try to pick threads carefully, but you can ask a perfectly innocent question on a contentious thread and get a nasty answer from certain posters. Usually the same ones.
Well, I am not going anywhere because one or two deliberately misinterpret posts and think they are the only kind and compassionate people on here.

peaceatlast it's a pity, really, but there are some fun or interesting threads if you choose carefully smile

Ana Mon 05-Sept-16 20:25:48

Jalima - a lot of us have been there smile

DLTBGYD as my DH used to say...(well, in full actually)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 05-Sept-16 20:34:56

I googled it. smile

Purpledaffodil Mon 05-Sept-16 20:47:17

AKA as "Nil carborundum illegitimus" I believe.grin
