Wonderful Cities of the World

I do like Vancouver. The surrounding landscapes are fantastic, the people are so friendly and the architecture quite splendid.

Can't wait to visit Prague-hopefully in the next few weeks- as DGD just started working there. This thread is certainly whetting my appetite and confirming that the travel bug by which I was bitten fifty plus years ago is still active!

Rome for me. Off next week for 26th time. I could stay forever.

Mine is Lisbon. Love the winding streets of the Alfama and Bairro Alto plus the wonderful views over the Tagus River. The fresh fish is delicious and the wine too.

Hated Sydney- too busy and hot when we were there! Loved Melbourne and Perth. Back home it's London, I never tire of visiting different parts. Was in the British Museum area the other day at grandson's graduation and I'd forgotten all the lovely little leafy squares!

Have to think about European Cities, Stockholm is the Venice of the North, and Capital of where I live, Paris is lovely, and further afield Sydney of course.
Home favourites, Cambridge,York, London, and top favourite, Liverpool, were I grew up.

It's got to be Edinburgh, it's not called the Athens of the North for nothing. Other favourites are Bath, Durham, Seville, Florence, New York and San Francisco.

I love cities.

Big boys: New York, Istanbul, Beijing, and London (good job as I live here)

Also .... Seville, Savannah, Lucerne, Amsterdam, Lisbon

I could go on and on - so hard to choose, like Desert Island Discs!

Lived in Rome for three years and since then have visited other cities but nothing beats it. Vibrancy, culture, people, food the list is endless. Crowded and hot in summer. Magical in the winter

I agree with Rome and Edinburgh, two cities that I have had the pleasure of walking around on my own and so had time to soak it all in with no one else to consider.
London comes high but having worked there and lived close all my life I take it for granted and a lot passes me by.
I really loved Granada and hope to visit Seville soon spurred by your recommendations.

Cape Town was beautiful, before 1990, since then, it has gone backwards fast. I thought Bruges, stunk to high heaven. The part I was in did.

Anybody else like Regensburg?

This is so hard there are too many. For my 60th, a couple of years ago we visited Argentina, I just loved Buenos Aires exceeded expectations. I also feel very lucky to have visited America quite a few times, really liked Charleston and Savannah more than the larger more obvious cities, although I remember being knocked out by New York first time I went there but less so the second time, really liked Los Angeles, inspite of everyone telling us to give it a miss. Boston didn't live up to expectations for me. The Latin side of me has drawn me to Italy many times over the years, rather than colder northern Europe. Italy for me has always been the most beautiful, albeit chaotic of European countries, amazing cities too hard to select one, I have been lucky enough to holiday in Rome, Florence, Genoa, Sienna, Padua, Verona and Venice, failing to appreciate the latter at 21, fell in love with it a couple of years ago, I guess it's a grown up place. I never fell in love with Paris I prefer some of the smaller regional cities of France such as Lyon, Bordeaux, Blois, Nice, Rouen. Haven't been to Melbourne or Sydney but liked Perth along with Vancouver Canada, New world cities have a different sort of excitement to those with centuries of history. I haven't done Scandi or German cities but hope to rectify that. Visited Dublin two years running in December I love it there particularly in the Christmas run up. Finally, can't fail to mention London on my door step, for all it's dowsides, I think it's a wonderful world class city.

Like others have mentioned Savannah is really lovely, beautiful squares, very historic. Loved Barcelona, Rome - my friend lived there for years, so I visited often. Seville - I had a short break in the Hague as my stepmother had been brought up there - loved it, the people so friendly. I was brought up in London, but now I am retired I often go up and get buses all around - feel like a tourist! Go to places I remember from my youth, which of course have all changed! but also go to places I have never been before. Having been to quite a few cities, London is definately the largest. I have been wanting to visit Prague for quite a while, will get there.

Chester for it`s city walls and cathedral.
York, again for the city walls and the Minster.
Plymouth for the shopping centre and waterfront.

Copenhagen is worth a visit as is Bergen in Norway. London is great and has smartened up a lot in recent years.

I absolutely loved Dubrovnic. Full of narrow winding streets and interesting markets. In the uk I think York is my favourite.

My son's in Dubrovnic at the moment [honeymoon]. I do feel that he should have taken me with him though, as I wanted to see the Game of Thrones locations there....

Love some of the polish cities - Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw. Incredibly rebuilt after being devastated during the war.
