Wow! You guys have stretched my list of "must visit"! It is lovely to read all your opinions and stories about different places. In my tiny list i had forgotten Palma de Mallorca. I spent a great deal of time there in my teens and early twenties. It is not too big, and the old part of the city is beautiful.

My travel bug is itching to go somewhere new now!

How could I have forgotten about Koblenz?? A beautiful city and the river (two actually - the Moselle flows into the Rhine in Koblenz). They have a fantastic cable car.

St Petersburg and Florence.

morethan2, Munich or Berlin? Both great cities, but I'd have to say Hamburg!

I like Munich but its DHs home town and I know it so well even the nastybits.
I fell in love with Rome and like Paris. In Germany I like Potsdam which is next to Berlin.
Next year we are going to Dresden. I don't have a favourite in the UK and definitely not Manchester. In England I like the small towns and villages.

My travelling these days seems to be around where family are working. I have had some lovely holidays in Madrid so much to see and very lovely at Xmas, Ottawa is also very compact and interesting, the cathedral like many churches in Canada has an metal ridged roof that shone in the sun. Really enjoyed a day in Malaga.

Dubai has sun, beaches and fab malls and eating places with great service everywhere. The surprise for me was to see the decorations in all the malls in December, which were very spectacular and festive. It is a modern city and not really any history but what has been achieved out of a desert is remarkable.

After our visits to DS1 & family in rural California we have a short city break to see more of USA. This year we went to Chicago which was very impressive and we enjoyed it very much. Wonderful architecture and parks to visit. Last time it was Washington DC, also loads of wonderful museums and buildings and an easy city to walk around. Closet to home we will be spending time next year in Hull, 2017 City of Culture. It is a bit of a well kept secret with many interesting things to see. There is a waterfront with a great aquarium, the Wilberforce museum, a great art gallery and they are preparing lots of fun things for next year.

Having seen Bratislava on the news, I think I would love to go there. It looks very pretty, and it's got bridges! (I do love a good bridge at night)

I hated Rome. It was pouring with rain the whole time we were there, but the main reason was the narrow pavements, where you could only walk in single file and then you couldn't admire the architecture because the state of the pavements was so awful you had to watch every step in case you tripped

I shocked my friends by saying I preferred Paris to London - this is mainly because Paris was built for carriages and parades and has wide streets, whilst much of London is still a very medieval layout. That's not to say I don't like London.

So much depends on who you are seeing the place with. Going with my husband really takes the fun out of anywhere - I took him to Amsterdam because I had had such a lovely time there with a group of women from Church, but it just wasn't the same.

We have had weekend breaks in lots of beautiful places within 2-3 hours' drive from us: Augsburg, Regensburg, Frankfurt, Stuttgart. Heidellberg and Strasbourg are wonderful, too, but they are a day's outing from us.

Berlin reallly is fascinating. History in the making, instead of history made 100's of years ago.

We have just come back from a trip which incuded Seville, Ronda, Granada, Cordoba Gibraltar and Malaga. I could have stayed in any of those!

Which city would I go to if I was only allowed one more? Probably London.

If it had to be one I'd never been to: New York.

Wouldn't push off the side of the bed: York, Lincoln.

I love Prague but doubt I will ever see it again now I am a widow. Didn't care for Rome. After a childhood in RC schools with the nuns talking about how wonderful Rome was, it was mega disappointing, also the Vatican.

I love York and Durham, Wells and the seaside town of Weymouth. It is a classic English beach with perfect sand and beautiful sea with white horses and fantastic sand sculptures.

Falconbird don't give up. Go on a tour with a company. I've added Liege to my list. Quebec and Montreal are on it already. I love Bologna.

Dublin at the very, very top of my list. In another life, I would marry and Irishman and live not far...
