In the supermarket this morning when I overheard a little girl very patiently and calmly explaining to her (I presume) mother why she shouldn't buy the vegetables she was looking at. Her reasons included they looked funny, they had been in the dirt (!) she didn't like the look of them wouldn't eat them and it would be better for mum to spend the money on something she would eat - like the sausage roll being sold at the hot food counter! She was putting her case in such a logical manner I think she will grow up to either be a scientist or a politician!

Very well said, phoenix. I'm sure you speak for a lot of us who agree with you absolutely.

It takes some of us a lot of courage to post and it is not necessary to be made to regret it by someone else's unpleasant comments. If you think a thread is not to your taste, there is no need to comment at all.

I'm glad it hasn't upset you, sunseeker and, for what it's worth, I thought your post was lovely.smile

IS the person saying you can only post if you agree?

rosesarered Sun 14-Aug-16 08:48:29

'The person' ? which person?

sunseeker Sun 14-Aug-16 08:49:27

Marmark1 Of course that is not what is being said. However, it is possible to post a comment disagreeing with a view without being unpleasant.

Mumsy Sun 14-Aug-16 08:49:43

Theres no such thing as a smooth running forum where everyone will agree with one and other, it would be boring if there was.

Lisalou Sun 14-Aug-16 08:50:18

Ooops, my turn to but in. Havent been around for a couple of days and been missing all this!
Marmark1, not I dont think that is what is being said at all, I think all people are saying is that there are ways of saying things, and you are entitled to disagree, but there is no need to get nasty.
I dont think the child was being a wiseguy, and quite frankly prefer her attitude to hearing a child whinging and creating because she cant get her own way. To me that is cute!
On the other hand, I love how happy this place usually is.
(Phoenix, could I please borrow that tin helmet of yours? I think i might need it, Promise to polish it nicely and return it)

Marmark1 Sun 14-Aug-16 08:55:27

I'm afraid,Sunseeker, there are a few people here who will always be unpleasant.
To all the nice ones,Thank you for making my day even better.
To the horrible ones,BO-----S.

Mumsy Sun 14-Aug-16 09:04:20

The written word can be construed and misinterpreted and come across as an attack, if you spoke on the same topic it would come across differently. I have noticed myself that some post a reply to a topic and theyve only skimmed the post so not understood properly.

rosesarered Sun 14-Aug-16 09:07:47

LisaLou we were all issued with a shiny tin hat/ helmet when we joined the forum, now and then they do an inspection , which reminds me that mine is looking a bit dull and dented and must get going with the spit and polish.

We also got a bag of verbal hand grenades and a camouflage jacket for swift Commando style raids.

Off to Yelverton RAF day with my friends and family including my very cute GD,who says things like " I can't see grandma,I haven't got my glasses" and " he did that by purpose"

Anya Sun 14-Aug-16 09:45:56

sunseeker

I'm with you all the way, I find children can make me smile too.

I enjoyed watching a recent series on t.v which followed 4/5 and 6 year olds at a play centre and they were so funny at times and their vocabulary and thought process was often very mature. They were obviously being covertly filmed and two psychologists were watching and commentating on their ability to interact with one another. They were in stitches at times as it was not supposed to be anything other than a light hearted view of the way children behave.

sunseeker Sun 14-Aug-16 11:27:25

I have mentioned before that I don't have children so I am not as familiar with these kinds of exchanges between adults and children as others so when I overheard this one, I had to smile. When I originally posted I had no idea the tone of the thread would become unpleasant. I just wanted to share something I thought was sweet and amusing. Thanks to those of you who accepted the post as it was intended.

Jane10 Sun 14-Aug-16 11:30:27

You are most welcome Sunseeker please post again if you hear any more funny conversations (or any other topic too of course!)

NonnaW Sun 14-Aug-16 11:43:16

Hear hear pheonix very well said. This is why I've been loving the Gransnetters Olympics thread - very funny, silly, and no unkindness at all.

Synonymous Sun 14-Aug-16 11:45:11

Don't worry sunseeker it is just life really! I loved your post and it reminded me of various incidents when DC were small and also the DGC. I loathe it when kids just whine and whinge and really appreciate the intelligence of those able to put forward a cogent argument from their perspective as it gives real insight into just what they are thinking. It may well be the child's precociousness which makes it difficult for adults to believe but some children seem able to out think adults fairly easily. Size is not necessarily an indicator of intelligence or ability!

As for others, well, people get out of the wrong side of the bed sometimes and others have a continuous pain somewhere or other. Sniping at others doesn't make anything any different but perhaps it is just a knee jerk reaction when not feeling A1. It happens! hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 14-Aug-16 12:37:54

sunseeker. I shouldn't have said that. Sorry. Don't know why I thought it really.

sunseeker Sun 14-Aug-16 12:42:22

No worries jbf - we good (as I believe the kids say!!!)grin

Marmark1 Sun 14-Aug-16 15:26:03

I wonder if some of you have any real friends,so so bitchy. Will make a note of names, good job it's only a few.

Jane10 Sun 14-Aug-16 15:36:36

That is a really nasty and threatening post. Quite uncalled for.

DaphneBroon Sun 14-Aug-16 15:38:05

Oh no! ??
Not another little list (?? and they'll none of them be missed??)!

phoenix Sun 14-Aug-16 15:44:57

shock Totally agree,Jane10

How gobsmackingly rude!

One thing to do it,i.e. make a note of names, quite another to brag post that you are going to do itshock

Rather reminds me of Allo Allo, which character was it that was always jotting down names in a book, or am I getting confused with another sitcom?
