Made me smile

In the supermarket this morning when I overheard a little girl very patiently and calmly explaining to her (I presume) mother why she shouldn't buy the vegetables she was looking at. Her reasons included they looked funny, they had been in the dirt (!) she didn't like the look of them wouldn't eat them and it would be better for mum to spend the money on something she would eat - like the sausage roll being sold at the hot food counter! She was putting her case in such a logical manner I think she will grow up to either be a scientist or a politician!

Do you mean ones who look cute but are seen and not heard? wink

I suppose one person's 'cute' could be another person's 'cheeky'.

Bellanonna Sat 13-Aug-16 09:56:11

And "smart ass" could mean intelligent, bright, enquiring, curious....

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 10:04:51

I find the original post hard to believe. Tbh. Sorry.

Doesn't ring true. Sounds like one of those things that circulate on the Internet.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 10:08:49

What sort of age was the little girl?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 10:19:00

Don't primary schools teach them loads about nutrition these days? My grandson is always trotting out the "it might make me obese" stuff. hmm

I find the original post very believable. When my DGS was about 6 he solemnly explained how having a Mini-magnum before lunch wouldn't spoil his appetite because that's not how his body works!

Jane10 Sat 13-Aug-16 10:35:28

Riverwalk grin.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 11:14:51

Yes. You're right actually. You can get some very know-it-all clever little so and so's these days. grin

Pollengran Sat 13-Aug-16 11:19:02

Well...actually I am quite interested in the phone sex thing now grin.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 11:50:21

grin. Go on then....

Nice to hear of a child arguing her case in a reasoned way, much better than demanding 'I want' or a tantrum smile

rosesarered Sat 13-Aug-16 12:13:50

sunseeker nothing wrong with your post......but as to some posters!
nothing wrong with a hot sausage roll either ( unless you live on them.)
cherry I agree about children, one minute they can't produce words and the next they are telling anecdotes , so funny.smile

DaphneBroon Sat 13-Aug-16 12:23:07

It seems to me that alot of things on GN need to lighten up a bit. There are certain people posting on here, I notice, who describe a post as " silly" if they don't happen to like it or agree with the poster. It isn't silly to throw something up for discussion. I think back here to my Phone sex Operator post

Isn't it refreshing when somebody who has been posting for such a (relatively) short time, brings us up to speed regarding our manifold shortcomings.
Not taking any sides in whether or not it would have made me smile, but children's logic usually does.
Not all adults' thoughgrin.

Please be careful what you accuse me of.There are some things I don't find at all funny.Thank you for your attention.

obieone Sat 13-Aug-16 13:41:43

Or a journalist sunseeker. The girl who I knew who was 5 going on 11, is now a journalist.

obieone Sat 13-Aug-16 13:42:37

I dont totally agree with private schools, but I breathed a sigh of relief when her parents sent her there. Best thing they could have done for her.

obieone Sat 13-Aug-16 13:44:39

Best thing they could have done for her educationally that is.
She treaded water at the primary school, and would soon have treaded water at the local comprehensive.

DaphneBroon Sat 13-Aug-16 13:56:36

"Trod" and "trodden"? obieone wink

obieone Sat 13-Aug-16 14:21:51

No idea actually! grin

obieone Sat 13-Aug-16 14:25:36

Is it? Oh well. Sorry, I dont even know on this occasion.
I dont mind if you teach me. I am perhaps worse than I realise.

Ilrina Sat 13-Aug-16 15:05:53

Pollengran.I wasn't actually bringing up the phone sex operator thread for further discussion. It was just an example.
As far as I can see GN is meant to be a place where people can throw things up for discussion, or share a moment with others which they had found interesting or amusing.
By definition I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with everyone else, that would be very boring. One thing I do not like to see though is another person's post being classed as either silly or a non thread merely because someone doesn't agree with it.

To say such a thing seems very narrow minded and verging on being a bit of a bully, usually those two things go together.
I rest my case: Discuss wink

Pollengran Sat 13-Aug-16 15:25:51

I think you already told me off last night and I agreed that I was being silly, so I apologise to sunseeker if she is offended sad.

What was the phone sex thread about anyway grin?

Penstemmon Sat 13-Aug-16 16:04:54

It would have made me smile! My DGC are always trying to persuade me of the benefits of all kinds of things they would like. I like their tenacity and perseverance as they very rarely win an argument if it is too costly/too unhealthy (though a sausage roll is OK as part of a balanced diet!) not required!!

At the moment DD1 is trying to persuade the whole family that it would be good for us all to contribute money towards the cost of a mobile phone for her 11th birthday! Her arguments are well thought out, well presented and constructed. Well done her tachers for teaching her persuasive writing and discussion! She'll be lucky! grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 16:31:39

I think it would be interesting to put Daphnebroon and Illrina in a room together, and see what transpires.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 13-Aug-16 16:33:15

obieone stop being so bloody 'umble! You are every bit as good as anyone on here, and much nicer than some.
