Avon cream perfumes. I had one called "here's my heart". That, and panstick makeup which I used as lipstick as well as face makeup were my beauty must haves in the late 60s.

Tins of pink Gumption kitchen cleaner. I used to go shopping for an elderly neighbour when I was at primary school. Never understood why the staff in the Co-op used to smirk when I asked them if they had any Gumption.

Milk Bars

Milk machines that delivered cartons of milk for sixpence

I used to love the strawberry milk

Temperance bars. We used to go to the swimming baths after school and then we would repair to the temperance bar where they sold non alcoholic drinks like Vimto (hot in the winter), various kinds of fruit cordials, and sarsaparilla which he brewed himself. He pulled it like beer in a pub and it had a lovely frothy head on it and a lovely, slightly licquoricy aftertaste. It was very refreshing. He also sold Horlicks and Horlicks tablets (can't get those now either!).

My dad used to resolve our shoes with big chunks of leather. Flying saucers, 1/4 sweets for threepence old money.

Not sure if it's been said, the rag and bone man, and the unique way he had of shouting rag and bone. He used to give out gold fish for a bundle of rags. How easily excited we got in those days.

That white stuff you painted on your tennis shoes and left to dry. Can't remember what it was called.

BBbevan was it called Meltonian shoe cleaner? You can still buy it on-line.

oldgoat I can't remember. I think you painted it on then put the shoes somewhere to dry. In our house, on the kitchen windowsill.

I remember the shoe whitener. We put it on our pumps and white sandals. You had to squeeze it and it came out of a little spongey thing at the top.

Used to put it on my ancient ice skates which I got from the junk shop to make them look smarter.

You can still get it, might not be the same make but it's still got the sponge applicator. I got mine from Tesco, I think - leather and canvas whitener.

In remember that white stuff had a lovely smell. Used to love making my plimpsolls nice and white. ( Mr Kindle prefers pineapple but will accept plimpsolls if I add them to my dictionary....cheek.)

Granny2016 DH and DGS made the Walkie talkie out of baked bean tins not long ago!

Those school hats - awful and we had to carry those plastic concertina rain hats to cover the panama hats in the rain!

Synthetic cream - we took a jamjar to the baker and he filled it with the cream which went on a trifle

Not in our house but I visited one or two houses where that was the norm.
We must have been posh, we had Bronco or Izal toilet paper at our house!

You can get tiffin bars in Asda at the moment, limited edition and those concertina plastic rain hats must be still available - I saw our neighbour wearing one the other day and almost fell out of my wheelchair laughing! Luckily she was on the opposite side of the road and didn't see me. I found Badedas in Tesco too; that brought back memories...plus saw sweet tobacco somewhere not long ago.

Does anyone remember the school pots of glue that used to smell of marzipan?
