Happy birthday to soop and good luck for the year ahead. ann, I hope the op will go (is going?) well and you will soon be comfortably mobile. I think a friend of mine is going to be in the same hospital for the same thing this week or thereabouts! 10 of 11 years ago, I almost had a season ticket there.
I've been away for a couple of weeks. Last week I was on granny duty with my 8 and 11-year-old GSs. No blood was shed! My poorly leg is playing up and I'm glad to be home and able to rest it as and when I need to. In the meantime the garden is back to being a jungle as the gardener I thought had been a real 'find' has abandoned me. Words (printable ones at any rate) fail me.

Thankyou for telling us how your weekend went Grace, I hope you and your Mum are having a relaxing day now. I don't think I ever had as much energy as she and her friend NanaandGrampy have. They are lovely children and I want to say," enjoy them while they're little. " but I know Grans do!

Hello Grace I think it unbelievable that you were not allowed to hoover up any droppings from the high chair. Does nobody in that house understand what you actually do and the contributions you make?

Sending you to your bed was in my opinion, unforgivable- that rug after all is yours. You must have felt very forlorn if everybody went out for a walk leaving you to guard the house. I would have temporarily forgotten about my guard duties and see how that lot like it.

I hope that you can catch up with some well earned rest- your friend Tara.

Dear Grace , I totally understand how these small humans seem to get away with murder. Your rug no less!! I have experience of this as I have a cage which allows me to escape them and what happened... The smallest one only came in too!

He was forgiven as he shared his ice lolly with me although my mum went a bit pink when she noticed us both licking it!!

I didn't get a walk either but I don't mind so much as they let me sleep on their bed.

Maybe we could be pen friends ?

Tegan isn't it funny how things like that make one feel a connection with a competitor. Adam Peaty trains at Repton (where I grew up) and Loughborough! Though it's quite easy to feel a connection with lots of sports coming from round here.

I have just brought a courgette and lime cake (freshly baked!) kittylester, not exactly a birthday cake but I put a candle in the middle of it for soop anyway

Adam Peaty comes from very near to where I grew up (am trying to see if I recognise his #OlympicNan!! but I don't think so).

Awww! I'm bowled over by the number of messages. A HUGE thank you for all your birthday greetings. We've had a perfect lunch out with our pals in the village. The owner of the restaurant made me a cake. If I could share with you lot I most certainly would. Here is a photo taken before we left home. I'm a weeny bit tipsy right now.

The wind it was a howling...the rain it was a tumbling and yet, as we reached our table, the sun came out. Wonderful and perfectly timed.

Crafting We decided that Rory should share my birthday. He was given a wee cat playtime box. We showed him the contents. He walked past with an aloof look on his face. Obviously he's far too sophisticated. He, Tara and Mia would get along well. Grace would also be treated with the reverence she deserves.

To be perfectly honest with you all...I'm the lucky one. Without you lot and our virtual kitchen (that often seems more real than my own) I would be missing what is for me, a place to gather and share news of all kinds. If I'm down, you lift me up. When I'm grouchy, you cheer me up. When I'm downright daft as a brush...you lot join in the fun. To every one of you, my heartfelt gratitude.

Delighted to hear that you were taken out for a lovely lunch. It is feet up time now .

ann will have had surgery by now and will be sleeping peacefully on the ward. The work will start tomorrow, after she has been xrayed the physio will come to do her work.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my birthday. Thank you. MacSporran and I have been booking a room in the Premier Inn (nearest the hospital) as I'm going "under" at 8:am on the morning of admission. As I can eat up until midnight, we'll enjoy an early supper of...fish, chips and mushy peas.

Care Home visit in the morning. Just as soon as I return home, I shall catch up with you lovely lot. Time for a G&T with a splash of Elderflower cordial.

I hope Ann is doing well , I'm sure we'll hear from her when she is able but that's the worst thing about being 'virtual' friends- not knowing.

I wanted something to put on the wall in my almost finished bedroom yesterday. I took Grampy along with me and when I had selected the painting I liked I made that fatal mistake..... I asked him what he thought !

After much tooing and froing I ended up coming home with a piece of wall sculpture instead of the painting and even then he was lukewarm about it.

Why did I ask? I knew what I wanted. I sourced it , I still liked it when I went to see it. BUT NO! I had to muddy the water by asking a man who can't visualise anything .

Slap me now !! After 40 years you would think I would have learnt by now to just buy what I wanted because he always - always- says that looks good once its up.

And now I'm not sure I like what I bought.

Today might not be a good day

Hi Sam,
You are having a hard time of it at present- either the house full with little people wanting to share your cage or somebody running around with a hoover. All this fuss just to sell a house! The next thing is that you and your bedding and toys will be removed in case you leave a smell- whatever next- have the pair who own the house taken a whiff at themselves?

I am out from early am until late pm so if you and Grace would like a comfortable, quiet house please feel free. I am not allowed on the sofa but I do not like it anyway so it does not matter. The beds are comfortable- I do like memory foam mattresses.

We can sort out bedding arrangements- it may be better if the 3 of us take over my mum's bed and she moves to the single bed that I took over with my en suite facilities, albeit on the floor.

Please think about it, life is not easy for you,

Life at your house sounds lovely!! I was planning on leaving today anyway as my small humans have replaced me as NUMBER ONE by the creature in the picture.

Excuse me Sam- you hop into a mini cab and you will be here in no time. Your mum and dad will pay the bill, little choice. I note that you have packed already- life must be grim there.

The walks will be leisurely because my mum cannot walk far but I know that you are obedient. Although I live in London, it is so quiet here, it is like living in the country.

NanaandGrampy What I would have done, had I been in your shoes Nana, is appear to mull the selected painting over in my mind. Say I wasn't too sure. Elect to possibly go on a circuit of the shops to find something more appropriate...complain of a possible headache waiting in the wings and say...phoar, I can't face yet more traipsing around, we'll have this and see what we feel once it's in situ. Grampy would think...I would do anything to get home again.... All sorted! Easy peasy.

Charleyg I love your quirky sense of humour. Perhaps we should have a wee book of animal musings published. Rory would oblige. In fact, this is what he wishes you to include -

My lady servant had been out celebrating something that seemed important. I heard her use the word "birthday". I was left to amuse myself for quite a long time. Boredom can be a problem for me because I used to be an adventurer. I slept until the car drew up in the drive. Stretched, yawned, clawed the upholstery and almost fainted from exhaustion. Lady servant skipped into the house (I believe she'd had a glass of something with bubbles that go up the nose and make servants giggle) and, guess what - she presented me with a wee box of cat toys. I ask you! It was beneath me to pretend to be amused. The box contained daft coloured balls that skid across the floor and make tinkling sounds - there was what the lady servant described as a "mees" ...Ha! I thought....she can't fool me. Then there was a sack of Cat nip and she swore that I'd be chuffed to bits with it. I'm far too sophisticated to indulge in such fripperies. I walked away and stared at the cupboard door in which proper cat treats are stored. She was duty bound to feed me. I was faint from lack of nourishment. After I'd dined, I left the lady and man servants rolling balls around on the floor. They were having such a good time and it made sense for me to leave them to play so that I could loll in the sunshine and prepare myself for "high tea".
