Yes, I know I'm being over sensitive, don't plan to read any more and agree, it could be time for some planned ignoring to take the interest out for the op. I'm home again. Thankful that the morning's ironing is over and done with. How I love the moment I come through the door and MacS says...coffee will be ready in a minute...I (hug) him big time.

NanaandGrampy I'm chuffed to bits that you can see a likeness between Torben and me. The sun is having to work very hard to break through the low cloud. I sense that it will be successful before too long. We haven't had a storm. In fact, I cannot recall when I last heard thunder.

I am tired of the whining from the younger generation, I have no respect for that hand held out expecting someone else to do the work or pay the bill. So I might have given him/her a bit of a broadside lol

They touched my last nerve on the subject especially about education. I worked so hard throughout my life to pay for my education. On my first degree there were a group of 5 mums ( mature students) like me. We paid our way, worked super hard and brought up our children. Our fellow students 18-23 partied their 3 years away and whined endlessly about their 2.2 or 3rd class degrees seeing no correlation between hard work and results. Between us we achieved 3 1sts and 2 x 2.1 , but boy we earned it - and more importantly valued every second of the opportunity it afforded us.

I rest my case. I need a magnum in both hands currently :-)

As I wrote on another thread I wonder if it could possibly have been written by some newspaper reporter, they do like to get people wound up to see what their response would be. It would not surprise me to see some of our comments printed in one of the lower type papers. The way it is written and the fact that there were about three threads to start with just make me think that.

Didn't anyone else have a terrific storm last night? Started about 4 am for at least 1 1/2 hours, rolling round the hills. Then started again about 8 am. So much rain, and the lightning/thunder was right overhead. The dogs did not like it at all and I haven't had much sleep.

Sorry to hear about your fall, Daphne - I've also been more prone to falls and accidents in general during the last few years. And I know you have too, Soop.
I fell upstairs in our barn on Sunday (banged my head on a beam) and grazed my elbow.
I think it may be due to old age affecting our balance mechanism. I'm definitely getting "doddery". But whan we do? I'm trying to develop the habit of rolling over so I land on my back.Not my dodgy hip.

What CAN we do?

TriciaF Such falls sap the confidence. Unless I have my arm crutch with me I'm inclined to feel really unsteady. Getting up after a tumble is a real problem. I never ever thought that I would become "doddery" but, just recently, I accept that I am.

There has been an incident a short distance from our home. A car has lights flashing. Three people standing on the verge. They take it in turns to go down onto the beach. Cars stop and folk offer assistance but they are waved on. Perhaps the police have been called.

Well, Tricia, if my fall last Friday morning was in any way down to doddering I'm not admitting it! In fact, I made a point of retracing my steps to find I tripped over one of those metal squares in the pavement, raised at least half an inch above ground level. Shredded my knee, black eye, bruised shoulder and left hand, very bruised and swollen right hand which is still giving me gyp. I am jealous of those who had handsome young men around to help in their time of meed, but really my first concern was that nobody had seen me, and I was close enough to home to get back indoors without witnesses. And I'm still denying I've ever had an accident when the ambulance chasers ring me

Yes millymouge that's a very good point. Something about it doesn't ring true about being from a genuinely peed off young person. It was provocative and aimed, I'd say, at eliciting an angry response. It worked.

A young lady from the village has had a prang in her car. It's on the beach. Her mum has parked her own car in our drive. Daughter isn't injured (apart from a sore shoulder) but her car hasn't faired well. Police called.

Update us soop. We're just nosey interested.

Bella Apparently the young lady was on her way to see the doctor. I believe that overtaking was involved.

Oh dear! Hope it was the other car doing the overtaking.

We now have a police car parked in our drive. Any time soon we'll be getting a phone call from someone who has spotted it asking what we've been up to. It seems that a car was overtaking a caravan. The car behind the overtaking car also overtook...something was coming the other way. Not a sensible manoeuvre.

Your neighbours will indeed wonder what you've been up to! Thank goodness the outcome was not serious but it's spoilt several peoples' day including family etc not directly involved, and the girl will have missed her appt with the doctor. All for a few minutes' wait.
