Poo on slippers

If you had worn a pair of nearly new Marks and Sparks slippers to DD's house, gone out in the garden and got some sort of animal poo on the heel of one of them, would you endeavour to clean it off, or throw them away and buy a new pair, without telling DH?

They are currently tied up tightly in a Sainsburys bag in the corner of my shed. They have been there since Sunday.

I did notice it before I went in DD's house btw. (phew!)

Yuk! I'd chuck them.

This thread title is to rival the other one currently under some discussion on Gransnet.

(Made you look, made you stare....)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 08-Jun-16 17:55:56

That's encouraging Kittye. smile

wot Wed 08-Jun-16 17:55:59

I'd bung them in the washing machine

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 08-Jun-16 17:57:00

But I'd have to boil wash 'em.

Badenkate Wed 08-Jun-16 17:58:34

Scrub it off and leave them to dry in the sun. Why is this a problem?

wot Wed 08-Jun-16 18:01:14

If you have a garden and a dog, it happens. Not nice but the dogs are worth it. (?)

Charleygirl Wed 08-Jun-16 18:03:11

Agree with wot

Luckygirl Wed 08-Jun-16 18:04:35

And I do not!!!!!

Jings - I get chicken poo on my slippers at least once a day. Wipe them on the grass, when I get in scrape off with a knife and rub with a wet piece of kitchen roll. Wash the knife obviously.
The main thing - wash hands afterwards.
Can't be always buying new slippers.
ps are you serious? Or having a laugh?

Tizliz Wed 08-Jun-16 18:11:11

Always get dog poo on my wellies - under the outside tap, with the car cleaning brush if necessary, then leave outside to dry. Not a problem, worse things happen with children.

Juliette Wed 08-Jun-16 18:13:53

You say some sort of animal poo jing
If it was fox poo.... Straight in the bin, any other a quick scrub would be OK for me.

Ana Wed 08-Jun-16 18:14:05

You wouldn't have to boil-wash them...!hmm

Synonymous Wed 08-Jun-16 18:26:51

That's what you get for wearing your slippers in the garden jings so chuck 'em out and get some new ones - and don't wear them in the garden again! Second thoughts you could keep them to wear in DD's garden! grin

wot Wed 08-Jun-16 18:36:44

You could get some rubber clog type shoes and leave them in the porch.

GandTea Wed 08-Jun-16 18:44:23

Come on, what is a bit of poo to a granny, wash it off give them scrub and spray with detox (other useless disinfectants are available)

merlotgran Wed 08-Jun-16 18:50:51

I can spot Jack Russell poo in the long grass a mile off but DD has two chihuahuas and I can't even spot them never mind their little dollops.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 08-Jun-16 18:53:18

I think it most likely was fox poo. Bin, here they come.

Yes, I am going to take my rubber clog thingies with me in future.

Ana Wed 08-Jun-16 18:58:50

(With thanks to Juliette for the convenient get-out clause! grin)

hildajenniJ Wed 08-Jun-16 18:59:13

If they are washable, I would put them in the washing machine. I certainly would not throw away a new pair of slippers without trying to clean them first.

mumofmadboys Wed 08-Jun-16 19:05:44

I would just clean them thoroughly, let them dry and continue wearing them!

I used to scrub DD1's toddler shoes under the kitchen tap after one of her regular steppings in dog poo on the pavement, and then I dried them on the kitchen radiator. My mother disapproved, not because of any hygiene issue (of which there don't appear to have been any) but because she said I'd ruin them drying leather shoes like that. They only had to last three or four months so I didn't agree with her assessment.

I was proved right in not worrying about shoe wreckage because a couple of years later, my health visitor asked me if I had any toddler shoes that might do for another child. I had cleaned an polished all my kids' baby and toddler shoes, put them back in their original boxes and stored them in the loft. I don't really know why, but it turned iut good because I gave them to the HV and she took them to the baby clinic and was able to give them to people who were struggling. Seems the fact they were all shiny and in their boxes made a big impression.

So, yeah, jings, if you've got this far, scrub them under the tap, dry them and carry on using them.

PS why would you tell your DH you'd bought slippers? Ever?

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 08-Jun-16 19:29:01

I will count up the clean 'ems and the chuck 'ems when this thread dies a death.

Please let the chuck 'ems win.

NonnaW Wed 08-Jun-16 19:38:36

At the end of the day, they are your slippers - if you want to bin them, then bin them. I suspect you will never feel the same about them anyway.
