I have been a member and regular contributor to GN since its inception, many of you will know me as Pompa.

I have always tried to be helpful to those that need it where my skills are appropriate. I have always been compassionate to those in trouble and always tried to inject a little humour into my posts.

I am not racist, feminist or any other form of ist (perhaps a bit of a pessimist now)

In all the years I have been here I have not knowingly been reported.

But I have now been reported ( I guess for racism because of my humorous thread in the Gardening forum regarding immigrant Spanish slugs.

GN is no longer the great site it used to be, it has become very unpleasant on many threads, dominated by a few posters.

Many GNers are now afraid to post for fear of verbal retribution.

Humour that is in the least edgy is condemned by a few.

Please, please will those Gners that want GN to become the fun site that it was again please speak up.

I am now leaving GN, I'm sure that there are those that are now cheering as they have won, but to the rest of my friends,
Love
Pompa

I caaaan't believe someone reported the slug thread. That in itself is hilarious!

Don't go G&T ... smile

Gracesgran Mon 06-Jun-16 19:07:58

Just a P.S. Of course I was told about contentious titles because someone ... I wonder who ... complained to GNHQ - it happens.

sherish Mon 06-Jun-16 19:12:13

How very small minded of someone to report you for what I read as a light hearted post. There's always someone who will take everything so seriously. I would stay and let whoever it is know that you intend to carry on being yourself.

annsixty Mon 06-Jun-16 19:12:57

Doesn't wash with me Gracesgran I can find no extenuating reasons for reporting. Posts are there to be read not to be reacted on without reading the content.

sunseeker Mon 06-Jun-16 19:15:41

I agree with annsixty someone just read the title, didn't bother reading the actual post and decided to they were offended. Whoever it was reminds me of something my grandmother said "she would walk 3 miles over broken glass in her bare feet just to get her feelings hurt".

Bellanonna Mon 06-Jun-16 19:16:01

Oh they probably did read it ann but just went ahead anyway. How cowardly they are not to stand and be counted. Churlish and childish.

Ceesnan Mon 06-Jun-16 19:31:04

Hopefully the person who did the reporting will have the grace to apologise to GandTea by a PM, assuming, that is, that they don't have the courage to publicly admit that they were wrong.#won'tholdmybreath

Anya Mon 06-Jun-16 19:31:27

Well that post from Gracesnan just about sums up all that is wrong with GN these days. And a lot is wrong.

pompa I didn't realise that was you but you can see the support you have on here and the strength of feeling this ridiculous response by someone at GNHQ has generated.

I'm afraid there are moderators and moderators.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:33:13

Gransnet has two Editors these days. Good cop. Bad cop.

#luckofthedraw

Anya Mon 06-Jun-16 19:34:04

Exactly wink

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:34:06

Oh, I do hope LaraGNHQ reads this thread.

Blinko Mon 06-Jun-16 19:35:07

Hey, G&T I've only just found this thread. Please don't go. As someone has already said, Nil illigitmus carborundum' - don't let 'em grind you down. I sidn't realise you were also Pompa. Will you continue as both? does it depend on your mood, or content, or what, I wonder? Anyway, you add a different perspective which we would miss. Nooooo.....

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:35:21

Or - there is that other mysterious person. The one who insists on always going by the name of 'GNHQ'.

Blinko Mon 06-Jun-16 19:36:27

didn't

Tegan Mon 06-Jun-16 19:37:30

Yes, there is a lot wrong with gransnet these days. A lot of it is because people can say quite hurtful things but don't seem to realise [or care] that they're doing so. I agree with what Gracegran has said. Having said that,I don't want pompa to leave; I've been enjoying his comments recently [had NO idea it was him!]. there's an 'us and them' mentality on gransnet these days and, alas, I am one of 'them'.

grannylyn65 Mon 06-Jun-16 19:40:44

No pompa, we need you!
Racist slugging slugs?? Really???!!
Is toddler net !

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:42:12

Gracesgran you were simply too quick to jump to conclusions. Without having even read the thread. ("I saw the title and didn't even read the thread but just sighed and thought "not on here too"") hmm

thatbags Mon 06-Jun-16 19:43:20

You could have checked, gracesgran, as could the person/people who reported it. Doesn't take much effort. It's always worth checking something that looks contentious/blasphemous/nonPC/wotevs before getting in a tizwaz or being judgmental.

Because, after all, it wasn't "here too" at all.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 06-Jun-16 19:43:59

Btw, no one on here has two names. If someone leaves, they may re-join with a new name.

Elegran Mon 06-Jun-16 19:44:30

"as so many people think the post was funny your comedic skills did not extend to timing" but this is EXACTLY the time when a bit of humour is needed. Life may be real, life may be earnest, but no-one was hurt by this spot of topical humour, and by not even reading it before complaining, someone has demonstrated their own narrowness of mind. It is up there with banning words like "blackboard" and "Manchester"

Lona Mon 06-Jun-16 19:45:36

For heaven's sake please don't go Pompa, we need as many sane members as we can get!
The lunatics are taking over the asylum!
Don't suppose I should have said that.?

Elegran Mon 06-Jun-16 19:49:28

You should have known, gracesgran and Tegan and so should the poster who reported it, that NO-ONE on Gransnet would have said "Bloody immigrants". It was not "on here too" because even somone posting something that was not complimentary about immigrants would not have put it like that.

rosesarered Mon 06-Jun-16 19:50:33

I didn't know you were Pompa ( well hidden!)
On first seeing the thread, my first thought was Spanish bluebells, but it turned out to be slugs, NEVER did I think it meant people ( and it was on the Gardening thread!)
gransnet HQ, please rethink this, or we will all become too PC for words ( literally) there is somebody on here who is reporting everything at the moment, and this site will suffer for it.

Indinana Mon 06-Jun-16 19:56:20

Exactly Elegran!
