I have been a member and regular contributor to GN since its inception, many of you will know me as Pompa.

I have always tried to be helpful to those that need it where my skills are appropriate. I have always been compassionate to those in trouble and always tried to inject a little humour into my posts.

I am not racist, feminist or any other form of ist (perhaps a bit of a pessimist now)

In all the years I have been here I have not knowingly been reported.

But I have now been reported ( I guess for racism because of my humorous thread in the Gardening forum regarding immigrant Spanish slugs.

GN is no longer the great site it used to be, it has become very unpleasant on many threads, dominated by a few posters.

Many GNers are now afraid to post for fear of verbal retribution.

Humour that is in the least edgy is condemned by a few.

Please, please will those Gners that want GN to become the fun site that it was again please speak up.

I am now leaving GN, I'm sure that there are those that are now cheering as they have won, but to the rest of my friends,
Love
Pompa

When I started this thread, I did hope for a response from some of the regulars and a few of the old brigade that were lurking. Never in a million years did I think it would become the tome it has become. Apart from a couple of minor spats it has been surprisingly good hearted.
Could this become the longest thread on record ? (especially unique atm as the "**********" word has not been written) (I can't bring myself to type it)

Flip me! I never knew GandTea was old Pomps!!!

No, nor me. I was always a bit slow on the uptake grin
I go away for a week and all hell breaks loose.
[shakes head in despair]

(although I did enjoy a few GandTs when I was away, the drink I mean!!)

pomps has no idea of the picture of him I had in my head (of GandTea). She is/was about 59, and has/had tightly curled light ginger hair. And a slightly gin sodden look about her.

Yes, I thought GandTea was female, but tallish, brunette, slim and elegant, always with the required G and T in hand and possibly a cigarette in a long holder in the other. grin

Sort of Anna Chancellor lookalike.

Having your own opinion and giving it frequently often means being b....y rude and not bothering who you hurt or offend. This is just my opinion you understand.

annsixty I agree; giving an opinion on politics, the country, the world, my house, my clothes and appearance bothers me not one jot (well, perhaps on my appearance it could hurt somewhat) but I do know someone who has given the full force of their opinion on my DC over many years. However, one can often have the last laugh (very quietly to oneself, and it is very satisfactory I must say).

flowers and hope all goes well

I do not believe many of you have any interest in evidence that does not agree with your preconceived ideas. So much so that JA actually turned the meaning of the article on its head.

hmm Gracesgran but that could be janea's interpretation - ie her opinion - of what the philosopher said, which may not be the same as someone else's interpretation - or opinion - of what was meant.

Philosophy, like economics, is a very fluid subject.

Jalima Fri 10-Jun-16 17:37:05

And having re-read the post with the link, I cannot see that janea gave an opinion or interpretation one way or the other. Perhaps I missed something.

I have lost the plot entirely, it seems... me too, that is quite easy on here Ana confused

I was only joking when I falsely said I used to be Pompa, I am definitely the G&T that Jamila has in her head. (Soooooooo much better that the reality). Lying here om my chaise longue at this very moment, G&T in hand, cigarette and holder in the other (electronic of course), man servant waiting on my every whim.

Jalima Fri 10-Jun-16 18:02:24

well, it's pouring with rain here, hope it is nice and sunny where you are GandTea otherwise the G&T will get diluted.

I tried G with cranberry juice recently - very nice indeed. G&C I suppose.

Please send us some rain, just put the sprinkler on.

Jalima Fri 10-Jun-16 18:29:47

You're very welcome
Don't forget though, that the rain brings the slugs out grin
