Help! My daughter can't marry Mr Willey

My art teacher at school was a huge Cole Porter fan... named his first child after him... so somewhere there is a poor devil called Cole Pit ( Minor )

I also had a family planning doctor in the 70s called Rosie Cock.

Brilliant start to the morning, hilarious!

A teacher friend of mine had a boy in her class with the surname Peacock.
Unfortunately, his parents named him Drew.

There was a boy in my class at junior school called Peter Green. His mother was called Theresa Green.

I didn't change my name when I got married...very unusual back in 1976 His sir name was Hussey. Our children have both our names (mine being their last middle name) and my youngest changed to her husbands when she married. You don't have to change your name when you marry. Oh I do have a friend whose husband changed his name to hers. I have even heard of people combining their names to make a new name.

Just think though, all her married life it will bring a smile to everyone's face!

Having the surname Doe we had to be careful with choosing our daughters name. However I loved the name Dillon when thinking of boys names, but had to rule that out in case Dil Doe was used lol. Also had to rule out a couple other names for a girl, but settled on one with no strange connotations

My mother had a teacher called Phyllis Irene Greenwood who had her initials on her briefcase! Perhaps her proud parents bought it for her,

I once knew a Wayne Kerr and a Mr I Ball

I once taught a boy called Dwayne Pipe. And some friends adopted a little African girl whose given nAme was Adatune . Her surname was Onabanjo.
Ive remembered the name of Vince in 'Just good friends' now. I think it was Pinner. So she would go from Penny Pratt to Penny Pinner.
My parents knew a girl called Rosie Hands who got teased a lot . Then she married a Mr Harse....

This thread reminded me of this poem below that I wrote some years ago.
I worked with someone with the surname in question over 60 years ago and it was pronounced WHYLLY then.
I have known folk with many peculiar names in my 86 years on this earth which prompted me to write this because they are names of folks I have either lived near or worked with.

NAME THIS CHILD

During all my years on earth I have heard many a peculiar name
Did parents think that this would help bring their offspring fame?
I have lived next door to a Dickie Bird and a Dusty Miller too
And I used to know an Ida Downe believe me this is true

There was an Ivor Lott a Will Power and a Robin Hood
Also Rusty Locke and Blackie Smith and a girl named Bebe Goode
I have worked with Eva Stone and Lydia Potts and an Eileen Back
All of them have had to live with such a great amount of flak.

There was another girl I worked with whose name was May Trump
You can well imagine how she felt and why she often had the hump.
One name imprinted on my mind from many years gone by
Was of a girl starting work and I swear that this is no lie,

Of all the names that I had heard this was the unkindest of all
When the boss asked her for her name she answered Ophelia Ball.
The look of horror on his face was a picture to behold
It left a vivid memory in my mind that I have often told.

So Mums and Dads pick a name to do your children proud
And when asked what it is they will shout it clear and loud.

I would never change my name again , though I've been happily married for 43 years, I've always regretted it.

Nursed a lovely man years ago- Mr. Pond. His wife was called Lily! He said it took him quite a time to find her. They were a great fun!

My dad once had to introduce Mr Dippy to Mr Batty at a very formal event - he said he practised at home again and again until the names lost all meaning and he could do it without a grin...

We were going to have those decorated initials for my daughter's wedding next week until we realised it would be either S&M or M&S so gave up on the idea

Our family weddings in recent years seem to have resulted in both changing to the double barrelled, whether short or cumbersome. My daughter however went the traditional route, though the new name of Walker is not controversial. perhaps if the relationship goes to a wedding he should change his surname to hers as the next logical step to true women's lib

I once ended a relationship with a man because his surname was Twiggs (My own surname had a monkey connotation....)! He looked like Scott Walker of the Walker Brothers.........

I have been with the present DH for almost 50 years who has supported me in everything I have wanted to do and we have had a great deal of fun and laughter amidst the ups and downs over the years.

I found Mr Twiggs on Friends Reunited about 16 years ago. He still looked like Scott Walker and had lived in Australia for several years, a place I would dearly like to have visited, and came across as still the lovely thoughtful man I met in the 60's.
I have no regrets (I didn't like Mr Twigg's rather arrogant best friend) but I do sometimes wonder what might have been if I hadn't been such a silly girl..

What's in a name?!

My friends have the surname King, and one of their sons is called Joe.

I worked with a woman married to Mike Hunt and went to school with a girl called Theresa Green. I also ordered business cards for P Enis.

My son went to nursery school with Norman Nobbs and my GP was Dr Pile - impressed that he worked through medical school with that!

Friend had the maiden name Dick, her first name was a colour. Oddly enough when she divorced, she didn't revert to her maiden name

When I was the new girl at a posh Brighton hotel, the other girls told me to report to Mr Smallbottom. I approached a well dressed manager and asked if he was Mr Smallbottom and he glared at me and said" it's actually Sidebottom". He never spoke to me after that.

Many years ago I worked in a bank and there were two chaps called Richard who used the name Dick. One was short, the other tall, so they were known as big Dick and little Dick. We also had a customer with the surname Lillicrap..

I knew a Miss Cox who married a Mr Willey.
