David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Victoria Wood, Denise Robertson and Ronnie Corbett. Linda Bellingham, Terry Wogan. Goodness, have I missed anyone else. RIP all of you.

The deaths of Terry Wogan, Ronnie Corbett, Denise Roberston were sad but not unexpected given their age and known ill health. But the shocks started for me this year with David Bowie ( had kept his illness private) and now Victoria Wood who is only months older than me and younger than DH. Now that is scary. I was not a great fan of Prince but recognise his talent, Victoria Wood's death really saddened me as I feel she had so much more to give. Dinner Ladies was wonderful, just listen to the scripts, and she had written many other pieces such as Housewife 49, and the play about the start of Morecambe and Wise career. Such a talent, and such a loss.

Thanks merlot for the link. Really enjoyed watching that. Love Tom Petty too.

Prince could play over 27 different instruments and did on many of his albums, then taught his band how to play the right sound for the live concerts.

I believe he was a Jehovah's Witness and did his stint of door knocking to ask people if they'd like to talk about God!
As he'd recently been ill and taken to hospital I'm wondering if his beliefs stopped him receiving appropriate treatment? Just a thought.

Will miss the man and his music. Plan to watch DVD of Purple Rain concert tonight.

This creative multi-talented musician has left this mortal coil too soon. RIP

Nothing compares

Obviously all these deaths are very sad news. However I was listening to a radio programme and they had a professor of something on who made this connection with why we have so many. He was basically saying the tv has exploded many people into well known names from the 1960s on and there are many more well known singers, reality stars etc. These people are now ageing hence the high numbers of deaths.. I acknowledge Victoria Wood and Prince were relatively young but I see his point.

rosesarered Sat 23-Apr-16 15:08:07

Ana Sat 23-Apr-16 15:10:50

Not me personally, no, but you know what I mean - heart meds and stuff like that!

rosesarered Sat 23-Apr-16 15:14:02

Yeah, knew what you meant, I have a few packs of tablets myself for various ailments ( but it was fun imagining you lying back on the sofa enjoying a spliff.)

Ana Sat 23-Apr-16 15:50:35

You're going back a few years there, roses! grin

Talking about drugs, the UN are debating de-criminalising all drugs. They have recognised that the 'war on drugs' isn't working, in fact, it's got worse.

...as opposed to some popular music types not still being here because of the drugs they took.

I read today that Prince took an overdose a few days/day or so before he was found dead.

I also read that pop stars (actually rock stars, I think it was) die a good deal younger than ordinary people, on average.

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 20:44:34
