I know there's lots of posts about retirement but I really need a kick up the jacksee. I just can't come to any decision about retirement. I can get my state pension now. It's £130 week and my small NHS pension would top it up with another £45-£60 pounds depending on what lump sum I take. My husband would carry on for another three years or so earning a £40k a year. The thing is for reasons to long to go into although we've managed to pay off our morgage. we've never done anything but minor repairs to the house. All our white goods are 10 + old and may need replacing soon. Some. Of you may remember my sad news in the horror of the half term post( I still feel guilty about upsetting people on that thread ..sorry) I'm still reeling from the shock. I'm not coping to well with the news but I am doing more childcare. It's a difficult position being the MiL her family are taking most of the caring and I don't want to interfere because I think it's what both she and her family want. They do seem happy for me to take over some of the looking after the children 4,5,7. I'm physically struggling with that but more than happy to do it. My lovely DiL has been told they are hoping ongoing treatment will give her years rather than months but that depends how the treatment goes and its brutal. She's almost housebound and in terrible pain. I want to do as much as I can without stepping on anyone's feelings My main worry is that I'll get despondent. I'm already struggling with getting motivated. I just can't be bothered. My new kindle bought for my birthday lays still in the box, books unread. Beautiful flowers sent for my birthday unappreciated. If I knew I could be more useful I'd retire but because we're all pretending everything is ok and we're not really discussing what's going on its difficult to know. My son looks awful but I don't want to keep asking because I feel he may need to have a place to come to get away from the trauma for a few hours. Although I only see him when he picks up the children so I can't ask him. Walking on eggshells isn't the word for it, it makes all my problems with my other DiL look minor now. I'm sorry if I'm rambling and I haven't time to preview this post I'm late for work. Be kind but brutality honest I need your advice. Thanks.
