I feel old.

So from the experience of Gransnetters I have just over 5 months till I hit 70 and then all is downhill I suspect the downward slide has already started.

I can however console myself that there are lots of you in the same boat.

Jings, I never would have thought of you as anywhere near 70! Young spirited!

I often fart when I get up from my chair after a pub dinner. I've noticed they are getting quieter now though. Something structural must be happening. (Eagle eared DD always hears 'em though )

How about you? I'm nearly 70 and this is true for me. Joints are sore and I can't open cans easily now.
I can still run for the bus though!!

Sympathy for all the above posters. Does anyone else feel, as I do, the shame of old age? I'm 72; when I've been sitting for a while, not only is it agony to get up because of osteoarthritis, but I can't straighten up, and my rising from the sofa is often accompanied by an involuntary emission from my backside. I look in the mirror and my granny looks out: wispy hair, thinning lips, frown lines, blotchy complexion BUT, I'm still here to glory in the sunshine and the kindness of my friends.

Hang on in there harrigran, hope you have folks around you to help/support you? My dear sister had this 10 years ago, it was diagnosed a year to the day after her husband died aged only 55 after a terrible,illness-we're convinced stress played a part BUT she is now doing fine!
Her hubby was a very active sportsman, cyclist and walker--when he had to retire because of his ill health he had loads of cards one of which made us laugh "I always told you all that exercise wasn't good for you"!
I try to resolve not to "enjoy poor health" as some do and try not to make (any!) noise when getting up.
At keep fit We all say when did it start to become such a performance just getting up?
As someone else said let's enjoy what we have; springs here, birds are nesting, flowers blooming.

to everyone who is feeling old and/or in pain. We are all the sum of all we have ever been, never forget your value or your contribution to the world. Growing old can be painful but always better than dying young, I think.

But if it works don't knock it I say I might even give it a go. Shall start with my double chin then go onto my eye bags, before trying it out on my stomach. I shall be a shadow of my former self.

I've started slightly worrying where the ground is, when I'm out.

73. Just finishing a BA degree course but can't remember how to use bits of my laptop which I need and used to be easy. My knees have gone recently so am glad to have the downstairs loo (different thread). Face about to go - using loads of Anusol in the hopes of propping up the sudden eyebags - does it work? Dunno, using it anyway.
Jingles - also have old lady bendover - mine is bent from the bum, not the back. What's that all about? Perhaps protection against losing sight of the ground and tripping over.

However, still like white wine; chocolate; chips; John Nettles; most of my grandchildren (no, all of them really); watching telly sitting next to my old chap.
