Breaking some rules

I'd really like to be one of those people who doesn't give a gnat's f*rt about rules (but in a modest way, no murder for example) but I can't even go against my local supermarket traffic signs (many do and it annoys the heck out of me). So, any suggestions on how to be a bit of a devil and cross the line now and again? Or is there anything you'd like to do if only you had the nerve???

Are there really any women who don't possess at least one pair of red knickers shoes? grin

rubylady Wed 06-Apr-16 01:25:37

I've been to my dad's funeral today with purple hair! (When I am old I shall wear purple.)

I have tattoos, two small ones and one was a dare. When my son leaves home, I am going to get another.

Piercings, only ears, one in one and two in the other.

I don' t possess anything red at all. Never have. Only red I like are the berries on holly.

I'm sorry for your loss, rubylady flowers

Gagagran Wed 06-Apr-16 07:37:19

Hope it all went without discord Ruby and you feel a bit less fraught about your family. flowers

Nonnie I'm planning a family trip to that zipwire in Wales for my 70th this year! It looks great fun.
I might not make it to my 71st! grin

Good for you Ruby. and have a stiff tipple before the sun goes over the yardarm, wearing a red hat. Onward and upward.

Jane - love the idea of scorpion tattoo, I'm on the cusp so could be said to have a sting in my tail already, thinking of getting another now.

Lupatria Wed 06-Apr-16 10:19:13

I used to have red shoes but they wore out - and I've got a fur coat lurking in the wardrobe .............................. and, dare I say, I don't wear knickers!! that's for a medical reason though.

I've got two tattoos and would love a third but they're rather expensive. I've also had my ears pierced three times in both ears [does that make sense?].

I am not going to grow old gracefully. for a start i'm not going to grow old - I shall grow OLDER. and i'm going to enjoy myself doing what I want, when I want, how I want, if I want .................... and if I don't want then I won't!!!!

Mollie, obeying rules is a sign of a considerate and thoughtful person. I am sure you wouldn't just conform for the sake of it, for example, obey a rule that harmed others.

My OH and I are both eldest children and are stereotypical 'eldests':- responsible, rule-abiding, and as socially aware as we can be. We put our bins out (and, moreover, collect them in again and hide them), tidy the garden and cut our verge grass, obey the speed limit, are polite to others, we ensured our children were good at school and so on.

I believe that everyone should have as much freedom as they can as long as others are not harmed or discomfited but this sets limits on our behaviour. These limits are rational and considerate. We do not live in a vacuum but in a society where others have rights too. I think that this is often forgotten in our current, narcissistic, YOLO world.

We go to festivals and dress up ...especially hats !!! Trying steam punk this year. No tattoos tho'.

Nonnie Wed 06-Apr-16 11:22:27

Lona when are you going? Are you doing the caves at the same time? My friend is having second thoughts, thinks she might be too much of a coward when it comes to it.

Anyone got any good ideas of what 2 old girls can do?

granfromafar Wed 06-Apr-16 12:43:40

I was a rebel in the swimming pool yesterday by swimming in the fast lane, which was empty, as there were some really slow ladies in the medium lane! (There were only 2 lanes available due to school hols and lessons). I wasn't inconveniencing anyone and I enjoyed breaking the rule for half an hour!

wellingtonpie Wed 06-Apr-16 13:15:07

BBBEVAN do that tattoo. I had one done on my foot when I was 60 I'm now 67 and I don't regret it.

wellingtonpie Wed 06-Apr-16 13:16:46

I agree with everyone. Do not grow old just get older and have fun.

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 06-Apr-16 13:47:26

Lona! The landing from those zip wires can be cruel! Don't do it! shock

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 06-Apr-16 13:51:59

nonnie you could try this Although I am sure I could fall off.

squirrel5 Wed 06-Apr-16 14:28:17

I have got more and more gung-ho as I get older, as long as it doesnt harm others, I hate being in one of those long queues for the ladies toilet, when there is usually no one in the men's , so off I pop into the men's, and usually others follow and do the same, especially when "busting"to go

Theoddbird Wed 06-Apr-16 16:10:40

I am a rebel by nature... can't help myself. I will not break the law though and I never drive over the speed limit. It is good for the soul to rebel in small ways I think. I have to wear a uniform at work...sighs. So I wear my name badge upside down...people are always telling me it is upside down... My reply 'I AM A REBEL' There is always something you can do to break the rules. As I said....is good for the soul smile Give it a go smile

Nonnie Wed 06-Apr-16 16:45:39

Did that a couple of years ago jings and had great fun, especially when they took the speed limiter off! It was persisting with rain that day too so got very muddy. Please keep the ideas coming though.

Nonnie Wed 06-Apr-16 16:46:28

BB I totally love red, what does that say about me?

gillyknits Wed 06-Apr-16 17:10:38

When I got to 60 I always wore odd coloured Scholl sandals (one yellow, one pale blue). This was instead of slippers at home. When asked 'Why' I always said that I wasn't going to grow old gracefully. Sadly I can't wear them any more and have now got Crocs with multiplied flower and butterfly studs.
I would love a little tattoo but my DD pointed out that as I bruise so easily it would end up as a purple blob.
Immature -me? Of course I am and proud of it.

aggie Wed 06-Apr-16 17:11:54

So that's why I got the funny looks at the bowling competition year ago....... red shoes !!

Lona Wed 06-Apr-16 17:29:51

jings this is me that fell off a low roundabout at the park six weeks ago and cracked my ribs!
I am going zipping and don't try to stop me!!
grin

BBbevan Wed 06-Apr-16 17:37:04

Nonnie, that you are kind and warm I think. I like all cool colours. But then I was born in December

Jalima Wed 06-Apr-16 17:38:18

DH is rebellious enough for both of us
DGD2 takes after him

Although I did fall off the zipwire into a muddy puddle.
