Thinking this would be a better name for this site, I've never read such a load of grumpy, negative, twittering posts in my life. It makes depressing reading and remind me of my late MiL for whom nothing was ever right.

Don't want to contribute to a honeymoon because you had ten Pyrex dishes and six coffee pots and that's how it ought to be? Never mind that today's young people will have to both work (until they're 70 at this rate) and struggle to pay for child care, so this might be the last carefree holiday they have until they retire.

Don't approve of the NHS One You initiative because you know it all and anyway you've no intention of changing your lifestyle, while at the same time moaning that the NHS is not performing well (due to the population eating itself into obesity)

Can't think of one positive thing to say about this government forgetting that there was 'nothing left' as truly stated in the note from the outgoing last lot.

I could go on but as I've offended almost everyone by now I'd better stop.

FHS it's getting so depressing just signing in to GN and I wonder what GNHQ think about us. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to answer to most AIBU questions with a loud, resounding YES

lights the blue touch paper and retires

Hayley Mills did but, thank goodness, no longer (I used to see her quite often where we lived before).

glassortwo Mon 21-Mar-16 20:23:12

pompa I agree with you - where has all the humour gone. In the early days we had a good mix of debate, moans etc but overall the humour shone through. What's happened to everyone grin sorry I am not around much at the moment so it could be said I have no right to comment... but thats what I think.

My husband is besotted with Hayley Mills. I have bought him The Family Way, his favourite film. It arrived today. Isn't it it sad to see how Hywel Bennett has aged. He was so handsome in his youth. But then we all were?

Ana Mon 21-Mar-16 20:27:34

glass, I so agree...smile

rosesarered Mon 21-Mar-16 20:32:25

That the problem with old films/tv programmes, you forget that the actors are now old, because they are forever young on screen.
I remember once thinking that Hayley Mills wasn't all that good ( at acting.)

glassortwo Mon 21-Mar-16 20:32:39

I knew you would nag grin

wot Mon 21-Mar-16 20:36:10

Oh, ioved Haley Mills in Whistle Down the Wind!

Jalima Mon 21-Mar-16 20:36:56

As Emilia Fox once said (not a quote but words to that effect): 'It is so difficult to get acting parts when you come from a famous family'
ROFL rather than grump!

Ana Mon 21-Mar-16 21:14:15

glass...wink

obieone Mon 21-Mar-16 21:19:31

Do we think it is the political threads? That there are too many of them? Which make some of us a bit antsy?

Ana Mon 21-Mar-16 21:34:39

We couldn't possibly say, obieone...grin

rosesarered Mon 21-Mar-16 22:24:53

Because it's now gone into the garden centre thread I started........oh the nastiness gets everywhere!

wot Tue 22-Mar-16 08:39:28

Imperfect27 Tue 22-Mar-16 09:26:52

Thanks Anya. I was a grump yesterday - haven't caught up with my 'treats and rewards' thread yet, as I was out all day, but in I couldn't agree more and will try to limit my grumpiness to things that really matter grin.

Good Morning sunshine I haven't read every posting in this thread but I get the general gist. I read a book sometime ago about NLP which said you can decide to be happy. When I get down and grumpy which I do I try to think of that and its quite hard going at times. I don't join I the arguments in Gransnet although I do read them and see if I can see both sides. Some postings make me laugh out loud and some make me despair and I hope overall it wont be the death of this site because I think its a good and positive thing. So have a happy day today if you can. smile

MargaretX Tue 22-Mar-16 10:12:16

Has anyone thought that sitting on the sofa posting things on Gransnet and FB etc makes you grumpy?

Real life is outside and although parts of it might be disappointing it is real and better than talking to people we actually don't know.

Jalima Tue 22-Mar-16 10:12:29

oh the nastiness gets everywhere!

Perhaps GN should carry a health warning:

Gransnet is bad for your blood pressure

(how on earth can it get nasty on a gardening thread? If I look will it shoot my blood pressure up?)

roses sunshine and smile and a few flowers from my garden flowers - not much at this time of the year, should look like a bunch of daffodils.

Jalima Tue 22-Mar-16 10:13:34

MargaretX smile

Jalima Tue 22-Mar-16 10:14:38

wot I hope they are safe flowers

pompa Tue 22-Mar-16 10:15:11

Imperfect27, glad to see you have left your grumpiness behind, go and buy your GC a little treat, go on, you know you want to, even if it's bad for them. That's what GP's do. smile

Had a great session at the ukulele club last night, still smiling this morning.

We have to be sad at today's news, but let's not be grumpy.

Jalima Tue 22-Mar-16 10:17:40

Yes, there is a difference pompa smile
(just had to calm DH down a bit as he was grumping at the computer hmm)

pompa Tue 22-Mar-16 10:22:59

May I make a suggestion. Pointless question, as I going to make it anyway.

When some GNers try to lighten up a thread with a witty comment etc, they often get shouted down by the Grumps. There are so many of us that are AntiGrumps, we should dive in and support our AntiGrump mates.

merlotgran Tue 22-Mar-16 10:28:54

The sun is shining so as soon as I've finished my coffee I'll be planting my recent purchases from our local nursery. I try and avoid the garden centres for plants (how daft does that sound?) but often go there for gifts.

The problem with our nurseries is that they become very successful due to the fact they concentrate on plants and their prices are reasonable. They expand, become even more popular and Hey Presto! They are taken over by one of the chains.

A nursery just a ten minute drive away is now Scotsdales and it's full of tat. You can't park when the cafe is full but.....they do a three for two compost offer so all is not lost grin

We still have one nursery left but it's getting bigger....and bigger and the prices have soared sad

merlotgran Tue 22-Mar-16 10:35:00

I think I'm wandering about in a daze this morning. My last post should have been on the grump about garden centres. confused
