Oh, thank you! Well, I had the shock of the bombings in Brussells as my friends dog is dying. He's 13 and has always been a real live wire and always scrounging food. My friend lives alone and thinks the world of her dog Jake. I used to shout at him when he came here for keep pestering me for food. Feel guilty now. My friend said he's not crying just slowing down completely.

Crafting There isn't a mortal being tough enough to keep our Galen in order. Although I sometimes suspect that she has a very tender heart.

I've been clearing another back corner of our garden (bordering the fence beside the forest) that has slowly but surely become a thicket. At first I thought, just a leisurely hour or so would give me a head's start. I've blitzed the area and, much to my glee, have exposed some glorious, rugged rocks that lurked beneath the scrub. The rain started and MacS called out that he was going inside. I agreed to follow. Only I didn't. I'm now wet through, but feeling quietly chuffed that I succeeded in making a difference to what was a forgotten plot of tangled weeds and briars. Don't ask where my present reserve of energy has sprung from. It has surprised me.

The rain is light. It's also less chilly outside. The wind must have changed direction.

Rory went as far as the door...peered into the murk and turned around. He has been asleep for the best part of the day. He perks up when Tortoiseshell cat calls (any time soon). She is a dear little madam. Rory shows his seniority by remaining po-faced as she prances all around him. They greet each other with a touch of noses.

Soop's has always been [since I joined GN] lovely and friendly! Perhaps it's winter that turned some of us nasty [me included] Sometimes it's imagined nastiness and we shouldn't be so hard on ourselves. I really enjoyed GN when we had the Lines of Lyrics thread - probably because I found it easy! I have been down myself lately but let's all just keep going and be nice.

I feel as though she's patted me on the head and said 'there there dear!' She doesn't mean it I'm sure, but I am seething.

Had a bit of an upset with my DD this lunchtime, she can be a bit patronising sometimes as though I'm some senile old fool! Anyway, I've been alternately angry and weepy but my ds came back from the office to soothe my temper and make me feel better. Just glad I kept my lip firmly buttoned and didn't say anything I might regret!

I agree, that is a lot to put up with soop. I am so pleased that at present the NHS is free. With luck it will "see me out" as the saying goes.

Soop you deserve a medal. Having so much to put up with yourself and yet you still manage to cheer others up and keep *Galen* us lot in order.

I think I must be a glutton for punishment: once again I've poked my nose into a nasty political thread that's been rolling around for days, occupying a space near the top of the list of active topics. Many of the comments are by the same posters and I have been wondering whether this is a deliberate ploy to keep the questionable title in the limelight.

I cannot recall entering our kitchen to find so many of my favourite folks enjoying (and humorously) discussing the business of being "mature"...

You lot are a JOY to share banter with. From me...to you...THANK you for being marvellous company. A day without visiting the kitchen for updates is not to my liking.

mcem I'm truly sorry to hear that your daughter remains in hospital. You need some tender loving care to help you deal with this crisis. How are the children coping with having Mummy so poorly? If I could, I would hug you right this minute.

As for my back-end problem. It's not pleasant. It could take over my day and night (if I were a wimp) but, it isn't life-threatening. I've a combination of front passage cystocele and back passage rectocele. I blame giving birth to three large sons and a subsequent hysterectomy. I need to wear a sanitary towel day and night. When living in Cornwall I had a anterior/posterior ventral suspension. It was not totally successful. I also had two hernias...femoral and iguinial ? spelling. Lots of other surgical procedures in-between. I thank the NHS for all the surgical benefits that I've received.
The one thing that dodgy health hasn't robbed me of is a positive outlook on life.

Hello, just popped into "the kitchen" for a quick look at the newsboard. I've found a comfy corner and I've put my feet up for 5 minutes before preparing lunch (hmm, sound a little bit pretentious eh?). I do agree with the comments re other threads on Gransnet, I steer well clear and to be honest don't check in very often these days. soop I hope your next hospital visit sorts out your "problem" and I'm pleased to hear MacSporran is feeling better in the chesticles department.

I have made a Simnel cake for the kitcheners - enjoy! It is of course a virtual cake and can be enjoyed calorie free.

soop you are a wonder-woman without equal - where do you get your strength from? Heaving those blooming (well they were once) Gunnera head around must be an amazing workout!

Gastrology, urology, neurology, rheumatology, psychology, general medicine plus a dietician are all currently being 'rounded up' for a conference to decide what happens next with DD1. Hasn't been home since the last week in January. My GS cut his 7th birthday cake by his mummy's hospital bed a couple of weeks ago!

soop your (and MacSporran's) work in the garden leaves me worn out just reading about. I'm glad that you have both seen the doctor and that hopefully you will be getting your sit upon sorted.

I feel for all of you with health problems but you have made me laugh out loud this morning with your humerous comments on them. I'v brought in some smoked salmon sandwiches and champagne ready for lunch time so you can join me in toasting this lovely kitchen on my birthday. I expect there's some cake tucked away somewhere.
