What is UAS???

I was going to ask, but thought it was something I should know.

Alea that really is a lovely gesture from your DD and SIL. It is not a pleasant experience making that journey but going door to door will help enormously especially when you no longer have the financial pressure of paying for it.

Yes, pompa what is UAS? to my knowledge it is not known medical terminology- I certainly do not recognise it.

It's a near terminal mental state that afflicts ukulele players.

Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome

Can only be temporarily relived by the purchase of another ukulele (very similar to the more serious Guitar Acquisition Syndrome)
It is usually accompanied with cries of :-
"Another one, where are you going to keep them"
"You can only play one at a time"
and worst of all "are you going to sell one then?"

Relief for my condition should arrive early next week.

I would imagine one remedy for UAS might be a shed at the bottom of a very long garden, or round the corner or in the next county....?
I hope Mrs Pompa has laid in a commensurate supply of shoes and handbags? (The only guaranteed antidote)

I am expecting the inevitable shopping trip that follows each instance of UAS, in fact it has already been mentioned.

Pompa that did make me chuckle. Funnily enough DD2 has mentioned several time recently about learning to play a ukulele . I remember when DD1 got her first tenor saxophone , we used to say - go down to the bottom of the garden - it sounds so mellow from a distance

Today we have a visit planned from the lovely Holly - a puppy play date with Sam who will tolerate her in the house and then lose all inhibitions in the garden and run round like a crazy thing in the garden.

My daughter has a tiny garden which is astro turfed ( that's how small it is) , so when Holly visits she is very excited by real grass. I shall be getting my camera out to capture the chaos !

We change the decor with each new dog of course!!
Actually the last greyhound, dear Icy, being brindle fitted in extremely well and before that we had Jock who was the colour they call "fawn" a sort of dark tan/ blond who practically disappeared into the then tan shag pile carpet which I hasten to add, came with the house.
That carpet may have been the last word in 80's naff, but a heck of a lot more practical regarding spillages/accidents/dog hair!

Alea Grace looks as though she has recovered from her recent trauma. I am assuming that the lampshade still goes on at night because she cannot be trusted to have a nip or two at the remains of her tail. She is very slender, a well looked after, well loved and exercised young madam.

pompa If I were mrs p I would be looking for alternative accommodation! The shed would be too close unless your garden is the length of a football pitch.

NanaandGrampy the one thing that Holly will do is keep Sam on his toes and fit if he runs around like a mad thing after her. It is good for Holly to meet other dogs and have a good tumble about. I hope that he is gentle with her- he may have to teach her some doggy manners.

Alea we had a fitted carpet like that once, it was in the era of our golden retriever and teenagers (much messier than toddlers) it seemed to last forever and was wonderful.

How very kind of your daughter and son in law. They must have seen what a difference chauffeuring made to both of you. It will take a lot of the worry away and you are right to accept as graciously as you have done.

soop don't do too much however lovely the first signs of Spring are. It is very restorative being outside isn't it? We came home yesterday and as I got out of the car I noticed the silhouette of a hare on the field. DH and I stood for about 5 minutes trying to work out whether it was a piece of wood or not. As he shut the car door two hares split and raced in different directions.

Charleygirl yes they certainly both get a work out. Sadly Sam does not believe he is a dog and this has no doggy etiquette. It doesn't show as aggression but as anxiety. Which is sad because he is a smashing little dog. We are hoping my having regular visits on his territory from someone as small as Holly that he will become less worried about the whole - what the heck are you thing.

I've read all your messages and have had a chortle when reading about pompas affliction. I think that I (like many females) have an uncontrollable yearning to add deliciously pretty, non-sensible clothes (eBay "bargains", every one) to my over-stuffed wardrobe. After a few months of admiring them, I pass them on. Today the Red Cross shop in Campbeltown had an array of Eastery/summery garments which the ladies liked a lot. One outfit will grace the window. I first have to earn the money (weekly ironing morning). Then follows the pleasure of sourcing/bidding/receiving and hanging the items neatly in the wardrobe. A good many others eventually get some pleasure from my "addiction"...no harm done.

Guess what the postie delivered? A letter from Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Confirming that I am on the General Surgery list to have "a procedure carried out" within the next 12 weeks. Hey ho!!!

dustya I have spotted a hare just once in my life. It was an amazing experience. Lucky you.

We've purchased some Magnolia emulsion, turps and a couple of good brushes which shouldn't shed their bristles. I'm in the mood to gift a face-lift to some tired paintwork. As for the garden... I achieved a great deal over two long afternoons. Aren't I modest. I shall pop my tatty clothes on and do an hour or so of further tidying up the borders.

I also have had a medical day. I got an "emergency appt" with GP this morning ( I had been given a bookable one last week for April 7th) and he thinks my dreadful leg pain is coming from my back.
I have 2 weeks on Naproxen and then must go for further investigation if there is no improvement.
I also had a letter giving me a date in April to see a consultant in the retina clinicat Manchester eye hospital.The angiogram showed a polyp behind the retina. In the meantime
I must carry on the monthly injections.
Who said old age isn't for wimps? I think most of us will agree with that.

Ooh ann you have a lot going on. Could the leg pain be sciatica? The polyp behind the retina sounds unpleasant but hopefully not too hard to deal with? Makes my own problems sound insignificant - a two hour wait at the walk-in clinic yesterday for a five- week cough that's driving me mad. Today over an hour for four phials of blood to be taken, and another queue for a chest X-ray. I'm sure the doctor is just being thorough, and a lot of the blood checks are my routine annual ones anyway. But this cough. It doesn't let me sleep but I know lots of people have/have had it. I hope your Naproxen gives you relief as that kind of pain is constant. Hope too that you manage to get enough sleep. I can now well understand your comment elsewhere that you are feeling pretty down.

Thanks Bella I have been feeling rather down. I had that cough thing in January and I know just how it disturbs ones sleep. I felt I was chocking and was sick a couple of nights. I hope your results are OK. We keep hearing about people having pneumonia and being very I'll.

My tablet keeps changing things, it is starting to get annoying!!

It sounds as though some of us have season tickets to see medics at our local hospitals and also with GPs.

I have decided to do something about my wardrobe in my bedroom- it is wall to wall so not small. It is not only what is hanging but what is in plastic containers on the floor. There is one long shelf, one rail and that is it.

A charity tomorrow I think will be very pleased as some of the clothes still have the tags on and others have rarely been worn. I have hardly made a dent but I feel better. I have filled two black bags but a lot of space has been taken up with coat hangers.

I thought the other day (sorry to be so cheerful) if I dropped down dead in the street whoever had the awful job of sorting through my house would be horrified seeing the amount of junk and clutter. Looking down from above I would be embarrassed.

At least what is left on my bed will be folded neatly and put in drawers.

That is only 1/3 sorted but at least I have made a start. The next bedroom will be a nightmare because I had it built so there are shelves, alcoves and a small rail. It is piled high with items. Goodbye Easter week I think.

But what a sense of satisfaction and good causes benefit, win win as they say.

You are right Ann, you need to be really fit and tough to be old. Just get fooled into thinking things are fine and some new affliction leaps out at you.

For those worried about Mrs P's hearing, I don't often play at home, either at the U3A or Pub. Mrs P has decided that a new Iphone = new ukulele (think I did poorly on that deal)

annsixty Yes indeed, you have certainly had an eventful day. I'm pleased that you have had a prompt appointment with the GP. Bella could be right. Sciatica causes chronic, distressing pain. I hope that your appointment with the Manchester eye hospital will mean that treatment can start to deal with the polyp. I'm so sorry that you have been feeling down. I wish that I could give you a gentle hug right now.
You are also correct in saying that old age isn't for wimps. Many of us can testify to that. We have to count our blessings and carry on regardless.

Bellanona The cough from which you are suffering is a very nasty strain. Our GP says so. I liken it to whooping cough. I'm sorry that you are having a tough time. Loss of a good nights sleep doesn't do you any favours. Try to take a nap during the day, if you can.

A little more gardening done, and I'm feeling pleased with the results.
