Alan Rickman has died!

A good innings? Not at all, as we all now know. I do remember though when I was young (just), and my mother would say so and so had died in their sixties. To her that was "no age", to me it was positively ancient.

We haven't dared to tell GS1 yet, he's going to be so upset. I remember reading that J.K.Rowling was so keen to keep him playing Snape that she told him how it would all end and what a vital part Snape would play in it all.

The person who said Alan Rickman and David Bowie had had a "good innings" was in her 40's. No doubt she will feel differently when she is in her sixties.

I can't think of many things that I've seen him in, but I thought he was brilliant in Truly Madly Deeply.

Very sad. I admired him very much.

My teen granddaughters knew nothing of Bowie, they are so sorry Alan Rickman has died. I read he was voted actor with the most sexy voice , no surprise there

So upset that he's gone. I loved him in all his films but the fight scene in Robin Hood was a classic. So smooth and that lovely voice!

My 13-year-old DGD's science teacher left the room and the class took it upon themselves to create a tribute to Professor Snape on the whiteboard which they have posted on Facebook. Alan Rickman meant a lot to that generation and they are far more upset about his death than about David Bowie's who meant more to their parents and grandparents.

I was at the Almeida theatre some years ago, sitting in the stalls waiting for the show to start. Then I heard that unforgettable voice and looked behind – there he was! Wow!! He should have lived hereafter, 69 is too young. But at least we have all those films and recordings.

So jealous of SueDonim for actually meeting him. Think I'd have been speechless too.
Apparently there are still a couple of his films to be released later this year so we can look forward to those. He was still working until recently just like Bowie.
I'm hoping the BBC might do a season of his films so I can catch up with any I've missed.
Saw something on Facebook from the young male fans suggesting they all watch Die Hard last night as a mark of respect. Everybody loved Alan Rickman!

Agree with all comments on here. I loved him in Robin Prince of Theives and the Harry Potter films. So dark and brooding. Great actor R.I.P. Alan xxxx

He met Rima when he was 19, she 18, that's fifty years , they married three years ago , possibly illness started around that time, or they just took a long time to get around to it, poor woman , but I do know - from people who know her - she is a strong person with a good circle of friends and her passion is her politics

A great actor and, by the accounts of those who worked with him, a lovely person too. Very sad.

I loved him in Truly , Madly , Deeply too , he was just yummy, especially when they sang The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore .
And in Snowcake with Sigourney Weaver .

I too saw him onstage as Vicomte de Valmont, wonderful, but loved all his roles. There aren't too many like him, maybe none.

How can I watch Truly,Madly,Deeply DVD now

I've been a huge fan for years - I was wondering if he was ill as had heard nothing of what he was doing recently - absolutely gutted.

Wonderful actor- his Obidiah Slope with Geraldine McKewan as Mrs Proudie in Barchester Chronicles was just a classic- I have the box set & will be watching it next week. I always imagine him in the part when I read the books.
Who else could have played Severus Snape too? He was perfect for the part.
Sadly missed.

Like NanKate I am also 69. I was shocked when a friend in her mid 40's commented that Rickman & Bowie had had a 'good innings' when I feel that they have been taken whilst still in their prime.

Saw him with Lindsay Duncan in the RSC's Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Not a dry seat in the house;) !!

So very sad, I adored Alan.Rickman, loved his dry humour, in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and in The Harry Potter films.

Great actor excellent in all sorts of roles on stage and screen. He seemed to age so well. A sad loss.

I feel sad that he has died , sad we will not see him again except for repeats of his films

He was an excellent actor. I absolutely loved him in Robin Hood. He really made that film. "And call off Christmas!" Might try find it on netflix actually and watch it again. What a horrible start to January. Upwards from here please 2016!
