We've put away the tree and the Christmas decs (bar the wreath - that never made it out of the loft angry). Has anyone else? Or do you follow the 12 days of Christmas?

M0nica Tue 29-Dec-15 20:16:59

Decorations are up until New Year's Day and then come down. I always consider that Christmas lasts from Christmas Eve until New Year's Day.

Decorations will come down more slowly this year because I slipped on some wet grass just before Christmas and I am not yet fully functional as my back is still aching and I am rather stiff.

Mine's coming down tomorrow, then I can give the house a good clean and I'll be able to relax smile

Sorry to hear that Monica.

It's strange, I didn't feel very Christmassy this year. I blame DH for not venturing back into the loft for the wreath it's one of the main reasons we bought a new front door grin

Mine come down on New Year's Eve so that I have a fresh start for the New Year.

Twelfth night here. Mind you - I have already had enough of the cards, so they will come down tomorrow, I think. Then I shall start eyeing up the 'miscellaneous' bits and bobs around the place and putting them all in one area. The trees and garlands however will stay up. Not my wish, I should add, but DS and DBH would have them up for much longer if allowed. We do keep the weeping cherry lights on until the end of February though, it brightens up the gloom outside and the little twins next door love it.

The tree and the decorations went up early so they have come down early - you should have seen the dust .... never mind the glitter ...LOL wink

I chucked my tree out yesterday as it was beginning to smell. I will take down the cards tomorrow as they look messy and I am cleaning the house for our New Year's Eve party. I will leave some of the lights up for that and take the whole lot down on January 1st.

whitewave Tue 29-Dec-15 20:58:09

Begin to gradually take them down after New Year ending with the tree on 12th night

rubysong Tue 29-Dec-15 20:59:45

Twelve days! I have suspended my 5:2 for the twelve days and would never take decorations down early. I also still have my birthday cards up but may well take then down tomorrow.

shysal Tue 29-Dec-15 21:13:34

I took mine down first thing on Boxing Day. They seem pointless after Christmas Day. I noticed in my neighbourhood, some trees etc are still up but the lights are no longer on.

ninathenana Tue 29-Dec-15 21:20:13

Mine have always come down on 2nd January.

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 29-Dec-15 21:23:21

It's the chocolate that's going first. Dustbin. First thing in the morning. The decs can stay.

NanaandGrampy Tue 29-Dec-15 21:27:02

12th night is when they come down!!

They go up the first weekend in December and I enjoy every glittery, sparkly day!

Stricter with leftovers, they get thrown out/ given away on Jan 2nd !

merlotgran Tue 29-Dec-15 21:27:34

We moved house the week before Christmas so didn't bother much with decorations - just the cards and a few candles. I can't wait to get straight and finish unpacking but we are doing New Years Day lunch for DD1 and the grandsons who were away for Christmas.

What with all the driving and late nights at DD2's I'm really lacking in energy. Tomorrow I want to help DD1 move into our bungalow and the dog has to go to the vet for booster jabs and then there's the Aldi shop......

Ho Hum!! hmm

Lona Tue 29-Dec-15 21:28:21

Chucked my chocolate this morning! Decs will be going in a day or so.

Deedaa Tue 29-Dec-15 21:31:27

Mine will stay up until next week when school starts again. When the children were small I used to wait till Christmas Eve to decorate and then leave it all till twelfth night, but now I tend to start decorating earlier.

numberplease Tue 29-Dec-15 21:36:39

Ours didn`t go up until the 13th of December, so they`ll stay until Jan 6th.

MaizieD Tue 29-Dec-15 21:47:40

Christmas Eve until 12th night!

I love my Christmas tree and am always very sorry to have to take it down and burn it because it's unlucky not to

Lilygran Tue 29-Dec-15 21:55:59

Christmas Eve to Twelfth Night.

Iam64 Tue 29-Dec-15 22:03:02

The tree and decorations go up about five days before Christmas Day and come down on twelfth night.

Marelli Tue 29-Dec-15 22:29:40

I only have a small tree, and that'll stay up until 12th night, as will cards, etc. I didn't put the tree up until a few days before Christmas. tchsmile

Coolgran65 Tue 29-Dec-15 22:56:47

Mine went up on 18th and down today. A few cards are on the fireplace and the rest are in a trug on the hearth.

Indinana Tue 29-Dec-15 23:03:30

Just like you Coolgran - mine went up on the 18th and came down today! All packed away in the loft, and I'm glad to have the house back to normal tchsmile

Elrel Tue 29-Dec-15 23:28:49

Sad to see half a dozen discarded fresh trees piled at the corner of the road as early as 27th. Why bother with a real tree if you're going to keep it for so short a time?!
