My DS and DinL regularly have an alcohol free January and I am wondering whether to join them. Anyone else tried it ?

Cheers wine

GillT - that must have been tough, well done!
I can see 1st February on the horizon but am thinking I might wait until 5th to have a glass, am really not missing it & plan not to drink Monday - Friday anyway. On the other hand.....
Anyone else thought about a self imposed extension?

Anya Wed 27-Jan-16 07:43:31

That's a big sacrifice Gill well done.

Day 23 completed.

We can all see that light at the end of the tunnel and it's getting closer tcrgrin

NanKate Wed 27-Jan-16 13:47:36

I am finding it easier by the day.

Added bonus of weight and Blood Pressure going down - a result. smile

Definitely decided to cut back what I thought was a small amount of alcohol to an even smaller amount.

Very grateful to Jogging and others for the support.

That is brilliant news NanKate - every cloud ... eh? wink

In a weird kind of way, I have actually enjoyed this challenge - and I haven't found it too arduous hmm Once I have passed that point when I fancy a wine I don't really think about it again.

I am going away for a couple of days early next early week - and I guess it will be nice to enjoy a wine but I'm not desperate wink

The support on here has been heartwarming ❤️

Dry day 27 tcrgrin

Went to my book club which is held in a pub and had a pint of orange juice and soda instead of wine, the barman didn't stir it up or put ice in it, it was horrible and cost £3. One of the other ladies had a cup of tea! All the men had beer I noticed! Never mind, I didn't waver, will no doubt have wine at the next meeting ?But may even go for the tea.☕️

Anya Thu 28-Jan-16 08:49:36

Good on you Susied - I'd have been inclined to pour it over the barman' shed!

Day 24 completed. Nearly there tcrgrin

Anya Thu 28-Jan-16 08:50:03

Barman's head....

Greyduster Thu 28-Jan-16 10:58:02

The glass of sloe gin that DH had last night 'for medicinal purposes' was nearly my undoing. I had a sniff (for quality control purposes as it is a new batch we haven't tasted yet!) and then he snatched the glass away and sent me back to my cranberry juice with my tail between my legs!

jogginggirl Thu 28-Jan-16 11:08:38

What a lovely supportive hmm DH you have Greyduster Clearly he was worried you would down it in one just removing temptation wink

Greyduster Thu 28-Jan-16 11:34:08

Yes, and he was even supportive enough to comment on how delicious it was while he was drinking it! Isn't he an angel?

jogginggirl Thu 28-Jan-16 22:07:51

Well, I hope Mr G is not putting temptation in your way tonight Greyduster hmm

That was a bit naughty suzied - I did read somewhere that lots of bars/pubs are charging silly sums for soft drinks because so many people are doing dry January ?

Anya grin

We're nearly there wink

Dry day 28 tcrgrin

Are you all ready for a virtual drinks party on Monday ?

I shall wear my nice purple dress with butterflies on it, what about you ?

Shall we have nibbles too ?

jogginggirl Thu 28-Jan-16 23:56:45

Sounds great NanKate but I have had a better another offer wink
DH is whisking me off to the Lakes for a few days and I feel it would be rather rude to say no shock ..... I may be tempted to try the odd glass or two of wine I know it's a school night and all that.... but ....31 days without!!!grin

I'm sure we'll pop into the restaurant bar before dinner so I'll snaffle collect a few nibbles and try and pop in with them - I'd love to see your purple outfit smile

I'll be wearing something understated?? and I won't be able to stay long wink but it'll be lovely to meet you and the others tcrgrin

NanKate Fri 29-Jan-16 07:03:54

Have a lovely time in the Lakes Jogging you deserve a break from encouraging us all and keeping us on the right track.

We are off shortly to the Brighton area to help with our two GSs and attend a family party. I have decided not to give in on Saturday and wait till the virtual party on Monday.

My DinL gave me a hot water bottle cover at Xmas that said on the front 'I love (the names of my two grandsons) Tennis and Sherry'. That says it all. grin

Anya Fri 29-Jan-16 07:49:16

Just tonight and the last weekend to get through conquer. I'd like to come to the virtual party, if I can find something to wear. I've lots of exotic drinks and nibbles left over from Christmas that are approaching their sell by dates need drinking and eating up. Call me the last of the Big Spenders tchhmm

Have a great time in The Lakes JG

Greyduster Fri 29-Jan-16 11:51:11

I'll come to your virtual drinks party, Nankate! I'll be the one in the tweed hat and waders sitting in a dark corner with a bag of twiglets and a bottle of cooking sherry!!grin. No, i will scrub up nicely, i promise.... Now where did i put that dress. Sure i had one somewhere hmm....

Anya Fri 29-Jan-16 14:53:36

Don't possess a dress either Greyduster - if you want my past their sell by date leftovers goodies then it's jeans or nothing.

Now there's an offer that's hard to resist grin

NanKate Fri 29-Jan-16 14:55:15

What about doing a bit of fishing beforehand Greyduster and making a few canapés a la Mary Berry ? You won't smell of fish will you? shock

NanKate Fri 29-Jan-16 14:56:04

Anya can you come in your Doc Martins ?

JoyBloggs Fri 29-Jan-16 20:55:05

baNANAGran3 yes, I was (much to my own surprise) pondering a self-imposed extension... I've lost a few pounds (weight) and gained a few pounds (cash), I'm sleeping better and generally feel fitter. (Never really expected these outcomes, I'm only a glass-or-two-of-plonk-with-dinner person.) However, I've been looking forward to NanKate's party and meeting the rest of the January abstainers so am still undecided confused.

Willow500 Fri 29-Jan-16 21:25:43

I think I just fell off the wagon tonight by having a can of Malibu and pineapple sad I saw it in the fridge and had opened it before I thought about it. That's not really alcohol - is it?!! I've not had any wine though despite having something to celebrate today grin. Roll on Monday!

baNANAGran3 Fri 29-Jan-16 22:02:22

Ooo go on Willow, tell us what you're celebrating! Haul yourself back on the wagon til Monday, know what you mean about Malibu & wine!
Tbh I'd completely forgotten about the party on Monday! Even tho I may not have an alcoholic drink I'd still love to come and hear what you're all having for your first tipples. I haven't got a dress either but will sort out something suitable.
I'm slightly concerned that I'm going off alcohol, dh's glass of wine tonight smelled quite horrible to me (a good one too). Am just off to have a sniff of the gin bottle to allay my fears.

jogginggirl Fri 29-Jan-16 22:48:22

I get what you mean baNANGran - 66 days to make a new habit - we're nearly half way to that ...? hmm

Willow - one little malibu and pineapple doesn't really equal a BIG fall - and anyway, you are celebrating something ??? ... so, yes, back on the wagon - just two days to go wink

Anya - I bet you've got Doc Martins haven't you - they are so cool - I absolutely love these ...
