Do our likes change over the years?

I've always loved reading. When dad used to watch his 'nature' programmes I would take myself off to my room. Now I watch them as avidly as he did. I've always loved animals, so I don't know why I found them boring back then.
I don't think my food or music tastes have changed.

I love reading but my tastes have changed completely, and I don't seem as addicted to novels as I once was. I have also always loved singing, gave it up when bringing up the kids but came back to it in my 40s and am still a keen choir member. And I have ALWAYS loved games and puzzles, so have been hooked on various computer games ever since the GameBoy, and was thrilled when Sudoku arrived!

I agree with you about words. All of my family are obsessed with them and we quite often have whole conversations about derivation and etymology. When my son was two he once said in the garden, 'I LOVE words.' He also made many words up when he was a toddler. My husband used to write for the 'Times', I was an English teacher and my daughter did an English degree so I guess it is all in the genes. I am glad to hear others share our interest.

SPROUTS!! Used to love them as a child, now don't really like the taste and already fed up with that silly little green thing bouncing along the TV screen. Have actually bought some sprouts today!!, and am going to try shredding them and stir frying with onion and chilli. Still love books and having a dog as a companion.

I seem to have rediscovered some of my "likes" since retirement, but some have always been there:
Reading, anything to do with history and family history, music, decorating myself (makeup, jewellery etc.), the coast and the countryside, food, flowers, pets, puzzles...
I didn't have time for some while working and bringing up family but enjoying them all now!

Have loved reading since childhood and still do. A few years ago I met an old school friend's mother and she reminded me that I always had my nose in a book - I don't think it was meant as a compliment either! Foodwise, my tastes are definitely different since I had to be forced to eat vegetables when I was younger. Could be something to do with more enlightened ways of cooking them now. Like lots of other GNers, I am also much more into being outside and needing fresh air and a dose of green spaces. I don't really think I would recognise my teenage self now to be honest!

I love to write. I wrote poems as a teenager and write them again now I'm retired - I think hormones play a part!

I compare old age to adolescence, a time of constant (mostly unwelcome) change.
There are a multitude of things I can no longer enjoy, from long walks with the dogs to playing the piano. I am in no way the person I used to be so there's not much left which I enjoyed long ago and still do now. Maybe

Ditto - never ever without a book ( or 10 on my kindle) and just feel so exited when it snows!

I have always loved gardening since being very young. Always loved babies and chocolates. Crosswords, all kinds of music dependent on mood at the time. Hated sun in my eyes, yes love snow. Always loved art but cannot paint. I am 70 and those things I still love. Bit worn now but still the same inside.?

Reading has remained a constant in my life. I can remember lying in bed as a small child before i learned to read, looking at picture books and making up a story about what i saw. I am always at the library now i am retired as i love to try out different authors and types of books without having a cost involved. When i was at work i spent a lot of cash on books from charity shops book shops and car boot sales and i have a mini library at home. As a child i used both the school library and the local one as i couldn't afford to buy many books.

I also enjoy knitting and can remember my nan and mum teaching me. My mother in law taught me how to sew as a young bride and i did quite a lot of sewing for my first home and the children. Now its so cheap to buy items it isn't worth the hassle, mess and time.

My likes and dislikes are pretty much the same. I had a tiny 'garden' as a child and I still love my garden and all in particular.

I still like ringing the bell on the service bus. Got beaten to it yesterday by another Gran. She confessed that she likes doing it too.
