I can't really crack open a bottle of decent Prosecco when there's just me here, can I?

My pastry only stretched to 19. The blessed Saint Delia said I should have made 3 dozen?!!! That's 36 the last time I worked it out. How?! I used the right sized cutters, and perfectly normal patty tins. tchhmm Impossible.

And the raw pastry, which I normally love, tasted really boring. So much for lard and butter. tchhmm

God bless Mr Waitrose and his ready rolled stuff. Cos that's where I'm heading with the next lot.

Meanwhile, back to the original question. tchsmile

HELL YES!

I buy those little bottles of fairly ok champagne and prosseco from M&S as well. They're one large glass so unless you open a 2nd (as if) there's no danger of you overdosing on a full bottle of the stuff. However, given you seem to have been Christmas baking, I'd say go for it Jing.

Neat sounds good! Waitrose sells it.

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:43:23

If you're really really worried about drinking it all by yourself, we could all come round .....

rosequartz Wed 16-Dec-15 20:44:31

I've always drunk sloe gin neat
(and I come from sloe gin country tchgrin)

Iam64 Wed 16-Dec-15 20:48:41

And, just because you opened a full bottle, doesn't mean you have to drink it all grin

Goodness it's Wednesday. Everyone needs to celebrate Wednesday it's the middle of the week.
And you need to practise for Christmas so you won't get drunk on the day.
And you have to make sure other people don't drink too much. You are sparing them a lifetime of overindulgence.
And you have to show people what a good head for alcohol you have.
And you're worth it.

Is there any left, am I too late? If so there is one in my fridge anyone fancy sharing this afternoon with a good film?

OlderNoWiser Thu 17-Dec-15 12:20:35

Strange how in another thread everyone states that they don't really like to drink, yet here they are, queing to help empty the bottle ... something does not add up [chuckles quietly to herself]

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 12:23:16

Umm, oldernowiser, I did refrain. Prosecco awaits Xmas. [tchsmle]

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 12:23:43

Oops! tchsmile

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 17-Dec-15 12:25:51

Better not touch it today. Am climbing on chair putting decs up! tchgrin

Although I suppose I wouldn't feel the pain.

OlderNoWiser Thu 17-Dec-15 13:16:09

.... why not open it when you get down from the chair ... as good a reason as any smile

Bennan Thu 17-Dec-15 13:52:14

Go ahead, Jingl, open it, have half, put a teaspoon in it and have the other half next day - or drink the whole bottle and feel.........! wine

Marmight Thu 17-Dec-15 14:29:14

Go on - you know you want to! ?
Being 'just me' never stops me from breaking open a bottle - or 2 wink

OlderNoWiser Fri 18-Dec-15 18:23:32

.... thinking of fizz this reminds me of something else - although I am a linguist and maths is not my strongest point, can somebody please clarify for me why, when the government guidelines on safe drinking specify one unit as a small (175 ml) glass of 13% strength wine, does the very nice (750 ml) bottle of Mumm I am about to pop into the fridge to chill tell me that it contains 9.8 units?

750 ml divided by 175 ml in my book makes exactly 4.2 units for this bottle, not 9.8 (used the calculator for this one so it may actually be correct) .

Should we raise this subject under the Trade Descriptions Act as false representation? I mean .... they tell me I am getting 9.8 units when there are only 4.2 confused

loopylou Fri 18-Dec-15 18:27:13

tchconfused too ONW
I dunno, is it 9.8 per 175ml glass, like calories per slice asks she hopefully ?

OlderNoWiser Fri 18-Dec-15 18:32:42

I hope not, as that would mean I will be quite outrageously drunk later grin

Ana Fri 18-Dec-15 19:05:23

The government guidelines you've been reading are incorrect, OLW. A 175 ml glass of 13% alcohol wine = 2.28 units!

To do the maths, just multiply the volume by the alcohol content and divide by 100. You don't actually have to do the last bit as common sense will tell you how many units are in the glass/bottle tchsmile

Okay Jingle did you open that bottle. I had the same question but settled for SB and no I am not baking this year!!!!
By the way, that chat about the first class stamp made me laugh out loud, thank you folks, cos it is all a bit difficult this year.
