How many cups of tea do you have a day?

...she says making her 4th. And I've had a cappuccino out earlier too. Will probably have at least one more (usually herbal) before bed which brings my total to 6 or so cups of something a day. Sounds a lot when I add it up... Sure I shouldn't be having so much caffeine! brew brew brew brew brew brew

2 or maybe 3 first thing, 1 or 2 during the afternoon, 1 during the evening and 1 at bedtime (yes, I know "they" say you shouldn't at bedtime but it never keeps me awake). I comfort myself with the research that shows that tea is anti-cancer!

Hello all. It is ages since I posted. I drink only Red Bush tea now, about 4 cups a day plus 2 or 3 coffees/cappuccino. I ended up with dyspepsia after suffering horrendous withdrawl symptoms when coming of 8 months on acid suppressants (lansaprozole). No sympathy from Doctor. It took 2 years of suffering and eliminating various things, until someone mentioned tannin in tea. I changed to Red Bush tea and within 2 days all horrid symptoms disappeared. That was 2 years ago now and I have my life back. Have the occasional ordinary tea when out, but don't enjoy it. Prefer to stick to cappuccino. Some places offer Red Bush, but not many. Not keen on herbal teas.

Minimum 7 cups of tea daily, sometimes a couple more. Never drink coffee as it causes migraine, but still love the smell of coffee brewing. A couple of more glasses of water. Disturbed sleep!!??

Disclaimer: I'm no longer a dentist wink and I should point out that my last-thing-at-night teeth cleaning is my really thorough one, ie at least two minutes with my electric toothbrush followed by tepe brushes and floss. So in theory, there are very few bacteria there for any sugars to work on.
I don't add any sugar to my ovaltine and I've worked out that a heaped teaspoonful of the ovaltine powder has about 7grams of sugar in it. Which isn't that bad in the scheme of things.
I don't have ovaltine every night - only if we have eaten earlier than usual and I feel a bit hungry, or I can't get to sleep and all else has failed smile

My tea consumption depends on the day of the week.

Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (full work days) about 5 per day.

Tuesdays (looking after children day) 1-2 per day

Fridays (half day at work, followed by visiting my mum) 2 at work and 2 with my mum.

Saturdays 1-3
Sundays 1-3

I never have sugar in my tea or drink coffee (the devils drink) and have the very occasional hot choccy as a treat.

Loathe and detest tea!
Hot water with a slice of lemon at breakfast, chamomile, rose or mint infusion with lunch, cappuccino late afternoon and all the rest is cold water!
Oh, and the occasional hot chocolate!

I do love my cup of tea - life wouldn't be the same without it, and I have 5-6 mugs daily, tho not too strong a brew.
I find that drinking Rooibos tea later in the day is better, being caffeine free it doesn't keep me awake and needing the loo all night!

Concerned by how many drink tea and coffee black, are you taking enough milk?Calcium necessary for us oldies.

nannienet Wed 09-Dec-15 13:32:10

One tea on waking and one tea mid afternoon, I enjoy a packet mix latte when at home or a cafe/coffee house Latte if out mid morning. Don't think that's too bad and they are all decaf!

MaizieD Wed 09-Dec-15 15:00:28

I drink weak, black Earl Grey, no sugar (so not really black, more brandy coloured). 1 early morning (thanks, DP), 1 with breakfast and thereafter it depends on if DP is around, he being a permanent kettle boiler, like his father before him. Probably about 4 or 5 more and 1 at bedtime.

Can't bear coffee; tried hard to like it when younger but decided it wasn't worth the pain. Who says you have to like coffee, anyway?

If I can't sleep I might get up and make a cup of cocoa that's more like liquid milk chocolate, very strong and sweet. Works a treat but not good for the already overexpanded figure.

I'm with Anniebach on this one - have two or three mugs before even hitting the shower first thing - maybe a coffee mid morning - but tea is the drink of choice throughout the day - Lady Grey with skimmed milk...light and refreshing - just the way I like it! Don't drink fizzy stuff or squashes, just tea, more tea...and plain water!

Lots of us seem to drink our tea black. It's the only thing i ever had in common with my mother in law! I've never been able to take it with milk - when i was a child, milky tea used to make me sick. I cut my hand once at school and the domestic science mistress made me a cup of milky sweet tea. "Good for shock". I told her i couldn't drink milky tea, but she was a formidable lady who brooked no argument and stood over me while i drank it - and then promptly threw it all up again. I never was one of her favourite pupils, and that certainly earned me no brownie points!smile

Greyduster Wed 09-Dec-15 16:34:52

I should add, in response to winifred01, that i can drink milk by the gallon, and have it in coffee - it's just tea that's the prob.

NanKate Wed 09-Dec-15 16:37:54

6.30 am strong hot tea in an insulated mug
8.00 am another but smaller tea
10.45 am Italian or French ground coffee
3.00 pm Lady Grey tea
7.00 pm occasional instant coffee

Decent tea and coffee are two of the greatest pleasures in life to me.

If anyone gave me a milky, sugary tea or coffee I would p**e up grin

MammaN Wed 09-Dec-15 17:11:09

No tea, ever. Three coffees (espresso if I'm in, cappuccino if I'm out) plus water with lemon here and there.

frenchmamma Wed 09-Dec-15 18:07:38

I drink at least 5 cups of tea and 4 of coffee a day, and always use decaffinated. (I have an irregular heartbeat if I don't). I also drink water, and have read that the water in tea and coffee counts towards the recommended 2 litres a day. I do go to the toilet twice during the night but, as I enjoy drinking a lot during the day, I put up with the disturbed sleep!

Nannyfrance Wed 09-Dec-15 18:49:36

I have never drunk tea, coffee or anything hot. I drink 2-3 glasses of no added sugar squash each day and 2-3 glasses of wine in the evening. Is this bad for me?

yogagran Wed 09-Dec-15 19:35:51

I'm surprised by the number of us who never drink tea, I've never liked it (drink several cups of proper coffee a day) but I thought I was quite unusual in not liking tea

Nicksmrs46 Wed 09-Dec-15 21:24:30

De-caf tea with breakfast - two cups if I have time ...it was suggested to me after my gall bladder operation last year, doesn`t irritate the tum.
If I`m listening to children reading in school then it`s an instant cappuccino sachet during morning break and if it`s an afternoon session then coffee.
Lunch time another de-caf tea ,then again at 6ish after my evening meal
so that`s four teas and two coffees...

NannaM Thu 10-Dec-15 01:19:40

One mug of extra strong builders tea on waking, and one cup of freshly ground black coffee with breakfast. Thats it! Rooibos occasionally

GrannyMosh Thu 10-Dec-15 10:28:18

Try Ringtons tea, Jayh! Only company which makes a strong enough brew for me, I get it delivered.

Ariadne Thu 10-Dec-15 10:40:58

No tea - really don't like it! But at least three cups of very good coffee, preferably Colombian.

henetha Thu 10-Dec-15 11:18:52

2 cups of English tea for breakfast.
One or two cups of coffee during the morning/lunchtime.
One cup of tea late afternoon.
1 cup of hot milk or sometimes cocoa about 9pm.
Plus water, fruit juices, banana milk-shake, at various times.
Seems reasonable, sort of average I think.

witchygran Thu 10-Dec-15 18:05:20

Nannanoo, thanks for the tip! I have made a note of Rooibos and will get some next time I shop.

Hymnbook Thu 10-Dec-15 19:41:58

I have a glass of water 1st thing then tea My treat is a latte. Perhaps another 2 cups of tea through the day. Perhaps a glass of lemon barley or cranberry juice. I don't drink enough I know I've been told to drink more.
