this really made me laugh

Love the advert. £7 million for John Lewis one is not mitigated by association with Age UK in my opinion. I haven't watched JL advert and don't think it's appropriate for adverts for commercial organisations to guilt trip people in to spending money by using other people's situation. Just saying

I like the Aldi ad (surprised there wen't copyright issues though!), and if we hadn't bought a telescope for our grandson for Christmas two years ago (from JL!) I might have got him one - from what I've seen, they look pretty good for an entry level scope and you get a tripod! Aldi stuff usually comes with three year guarantees too.

Haven't seen either ad I'm afraid, am a customer of both stores though

This one is for Grans everywhere!(Eat your heart out John Lewis) grin

I think they'd be happy at the idea of a parody, it means that the JL advert is somewhat culturally significant which is what they wanted. Great advert!

You're right NatalieM

blackdog2 did you copy that post out of the Book of Posts For People Wanting To Sound Clever But Haven't Actually Got The Brain Power To Think of Anything Themselves? smile

Ana Thu 26-Nov-15 12:05:31

Can you actually be an 'anti something' fan? confused

shysal Thu 26-Nov-15 12:23:01

Perhaps blackdog has taken a leaf out of your book Jingl. I have yet to read a pleasant post from you today! Hope you are not feeling unwell. smile

rosequartz Thu 26-Nov-15 12:57:45

The ad is great.

The telescope will be what it is - an inexpensive one which may help children learn about the night sky. Anyone wanting to do serious astronomy is not going to buy it and Aldi know that.
DH bought a pair of binoculars from Lidl once - they were a very good make and brilliant.

Ana Thu 26-Nov-15 13:13:42

I wonder whether there will be any complaints (and possibly law-suits) after Christmas when all those who have received JL telescopes as presents find out they can't actually see the Man in the Moon with it! shock

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 13:20:53

Shysal! I don't think I have made any deliberately unpleasant posts today! (apart from the one, justified I think, to blackdog2) I have been involved in some debates on here, yes. I don't always do luvvy duvvy when debating. hmm

If you want nothing but sweetness and light, avoid my posts.

rosequartz Thu 26-Nov-15 13:20:55

Ana grin

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 13:21:38

If they buy Aldi ones they won't be able to see the moon!

Ana Thu 26-Nov-15 13:25:38

My DB and his wife (no kids and good pensions) are very particular about where they shop preferring Waitrose above most other supermarkets. It's a bit of a family joke when we get together as I usually put something in front of them and watch their faces when I tell them it's from Aldi. It's not my main place to shop but they do have bargains and both they and Lidl have a good range of continental foods. DD does all her food shopping in Aldi and says the wine is great! Love the advert.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 13:26:16

Oh, and btw Shysal, I can assure you that feeling unwell would not make me post unpleasantly to anyone. (I am actually fine) hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 13:27:31

Is anyone criticising Aldi on here? confused I thought it was about an advert.

ninathenana Thu 26-Nov-15 13:39:53

Apart from Teetime saying she would never shop there, which isn't a criticism but a statement of fact and obviously her choice.
No, your right jings nothing anti Aldi

rosequartz Thu 26-Nov-15 14:11:35

I like this supermarket:

*WAITROSE*

and I like this supermarket:

*ALDI*

(or I would if we had one nearby grin)

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 14:13:50

I just need to get off my ar sit-upon and go to a supermarket. Any supermarket! hmm

uknana Thu 26-Nov-15 14:20:01

How do I get to see this Ad?

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 14:21:54

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 26-Nov-15 14:23:51

It is very sweet! smile

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 26-Nov-15 14:48:24

I love both ads, although I take my hat off to the one by Pieces for Places because it is supporting the local Age UK. wink

The only supermarket I don't shop in is Waitrose and that's because I think it's overpriced. I get weekly emails from both Lidl and Aldi so I can check out what is coming up! grin
