Did you get a bit of a thrill, perhaps a slight "frisson" when you put it in the post box?

loopylou Sun 22-Nov-15 19:42:26

confused
How would anyone know phoenix's address, or anyone else's when it comes to that, or am I missing the point?

rosequartz Sun 22-Nov-15 19:46:43

But most people would have no idea who Phoenix is, where she/he lives or her/his associates.

rosequartz Sun 22-Nov-15 19:48:43

loopylou I think a thread was printed off and sent to someone phoenix knows. Is that right?

Nasty and worrying.

Ana Sun 22-Nov-15 19:49:02

I think rosequartz has a good point, in that a GN thread may come up if someone's googling for something, which could be a subject, a product or service or even a name.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 22-Nov-15 19:53:54

Was it sent to your husband phoenix? Or to a friend?

Not my business I know. But you've put it out here now.

loopylou Sun 22-Nov-15 19:54:28

Right.....possibly something to do with the one reported a couple of weeks ago, in which case i'm very sad and shocked that anyone would be so spiteful (if that is the one).

granjura Sun 22-Nov-15 19:55:25

What a pity Phoenix- what a shock if someone put an anonymous note in your post box?!? I had one bad experience on a Forum, when someone from a very specific organisation (with a funny handshake) - didn't like my comments about said organisation. Next time we went to where we used to live- friends straightaway asked what was happening? He had phoned one of his 'colleagues' in our town to ask who I was- he had my nationality and the fact I was a mod langs teacher and the profession of my OH- it took him 3 seconds to find out who I was (and that I was right). I should have made an official complaint- but he banned me so I could not correspond with other mods. I should have found another way- but I was too shaken.

Lesson learnt. Stay safe all- I've said many times before people should be careful about discussing intimate and difficult problems on GN.
I imagine you know who it is Phoenix?

annsixty Sun 22-Nov-15 19:57:38

We do have to be very careful as to what we post when situations that are easily identifiable are published on open forums. I am making the assumption that that is what has happened here.

kittylester Sun 22-Nov-15 20:07:55

Phoenix, have there been repercussions? I am so sorry if it have been. What evil b*****dswould so that. I would suggest sending the grans round but it's much too serious for that!

Please report it to the police! (((Hugs)))

Charleygirl Sun 22-Nov-15 20:17:06

phoenix could you identify a town or city from the postmark or was it smudged as many are?

I cannot believe that anybody could be so malicious and spiteful. What was that person trying to achieve?

Katek Sun 22-Nov-15 20:45:41

That's appalling Phoenix! I hope you get to the bottom of it flowers

petra Sun 22-Nov-15 20:51:02

Phoenix. Could you have been 'found' through the company you work for.
If my memory is correct, did you post some pictures of someone's work?

phoenix Sun 22-Nov-15 20:52:52

It was a deleted thread, printed and sent to my employer. I can only think that the reason behind it was that the "person" (to be polite) was hoping that it might result in my losing my job. As I've said before, "nice"!

Yes, Charleygirl there is a postmark which shows the city from where it was posted.

kitty I too wonder what evil b****ds would do such a thing, perhaps I have upset someone somehow, but can't think what I might have done?

Ana Sun 22-Nov-15 20:54:23

If the thread was deleted (why?), how could anyone have printed it out? confused

Charleygirl Sun 22-Nov-15 20:58:42

Words fail me phoenix if some malicious b**ch wanted to get you fired. Usually if people want to be nasty they send a very rude PM but at least that person can be traced with the help of GNHQ. This method is something else.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 22-Nov-15 20:59:40

You only showed concern for your boss if It's the thread I'm thinking of. You didn't say anything horrible. So there shouldn't be any repercussions.

Someone must be in a very bad place themself to actually do that. Sad really.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 22-Nov-15 21:00:30

Before it was deleted Ana?

merlotgran Sun 22-Nov-15 21:00:44

This is awful, phoenix. I can't for the life of me think of a recent (I'm assuming it was recent) thread that would be worthy of such a spiteful act.

If it was a deleted thread then a lot of us will have posted on it so why on earth were you singled out?

I remember you posting a link to the website of the place where you work but a website is in the public domain so nothing wrong with that apart from the fact it gave away your contact details.

We're all going to have to be a lot more careful from now on. hmm

durhamjen Sun 22-Nov-15 21:02:18

I did wonder when the profiles page was down, and a profile thread was set up, with people putting pictures and history on.
It is not as safe as having ordinary profiles. Anyone can look at a thread with photos on and put two and two together.

phoenix Sun 22-Nov-15 21:05:30

jings spot on, and thank you for getting the drift of the thread.

Anya Sun 22-Nov-15 21:23:21

That is a very spiteful thing to do. All I can say is that the person concerned must either have a nasty vindictive nature or be very jealous and unhappy in her own life.

mollie Sun 22-Nov-15 21:29:37

I'm sorry Phoenix. What drives people to be so bitter and spiteful? I can't understand it myself. How did your employer respond?

Its doubly shocking because we think we are 'talking' safely here and this sort of thing reminds us we're not. Horrible!

phoenix Sun 22-Nov-15 21:33:29

I think that this might be a good response:

"I feel sorry for you.

What an empty life you must live to have made you such a bitter, twisted malicious person.

What was the intention behind what you did (apart from the obvious one, of course)?
Did it give you a thrill when you put it in the letter box? 2 first class stamps as well, no expense spared, was there!

But what made you even think of doing such a thing to someone you have never met, and who has never (knowingly) done anything to you? Perhaps it's a hobby, if it is then I'm sure there are better ones you could find. Have you considered pulling the wings off flies?

Anyway, I must go now, there are nice people out there who I would much rather spend my time on.

Lots of love, (because you need it)
Phoenix

granjura Sun 22-Nov-15 21:34:06

That is just awful Phoenix- and just shows how careful one has to be- including when being critical of family, etc, or giving personal detail about them. Rise, rise, and (((hugs))) - so hope there won't be any repercussions. I have no idea what the thread was about.

Take care, stay safe all.

Stansgran Sun 22-Nov-15 21:37:21

I think many of us followed Phoenix's travails with job hunting and were delighted with her success. I know I looked at the furniture her company made but I don't remember her saying anything which would make anyone want to hurt her. I remember a gransnetter who has long since left who told me she made notes on what people said and avoided meeting up with her although she pmd me asking to. I think to the pure sadly all is pure. Perhaps we should all be cautious.I hope h.q.can resolve this.
