Like Greyduster, I have gone out in my slippers.
Also I showed the inspector on the train my M&S card instead of my travel pass. He looked at me and I think he was wondering if I had dementia.
Live over 225 miles away from family
Heading out to collect dgd from school so picked up car keys/phone/purse/cardi, left the house and turned to lock the door. It was only then I noticed that I didn't have any shoes on. Glanced around furtively to see if any of the neighbours had spotted me and shot back in for the shoes. Take 2 - managed to get as far as the car this time and then wondered why it wouldn't open. I was trying to unlock it with my mobile. Not the best of days!

Never mind the remote key (I've never had one!) - just how embarrassing is it to be witnessed trying to open the door of a car which you think is yours with the actual key?
And only realising your mistake when you see that the interior seat covers are nothing like yours...
A couple of years ago I drove my car to the local Asda. On returning to the car park there was absolutely no sign of the car, after walking around for a while in a blind panic thinking it must have been stolen, I suddenly realised I had in fact taken DH's company car and not my own!
Ana Snap! Many years ago I had a Mini in a rather odd colour and there weren't many of them around. I parked on a large car park and when I returned I saw a similar odd-coloured Mini and it never occurred to me that there might be more than one. As I was struggling to unlock it I noticed a trilby on the parcel shelf and wondered who on earth could have left that in my car, (not knowing any trilby-owners...). And only then, the penny dropped!
I don't think anybody saw me...
I seem to spend an awful lot of time trying to phone people on the TV remote.
The day we moved into this house, I paid my first visit to the local supermarket to pick up a few things for lunch. When I came back to the car park, I couldn't' find the car anywhere. I was starting to panic, rushing round the car park, on the verge of tears, when a store assistant moving trolleys asked me what was wrong. I told him, and he said, "which door did you come out of?" I pointed out the door. "Did you come in that way," he said " because there is another entrance and another car park just around the corner." Of course I hadn't cone in that way. My car was in the other car park! Did I feel stupid!
A blow-in from mumsnet, hello again! At the age of 35, I had a senior moment last week that I'm not going to share in real life. I took my children to have a treat in an ice-cream parlour was pleased to be able to park outside. When we returned to the car, I was dismayed to find that a car had parked so close behind me that I was unable to open the boot to put the buggy in. It's a large, modern chassis and I didn't know if I was able to squash it in the backseat, and didn't want to either, for safety reasons. I walked around the car, muttering, took a photo, tried several times to squeeze the boot up and fruitlessly searched for a pen to leave a cross notice on the windscreen. Eventually, I managed to fit the chassis in the backseat and drove home. It wasn't until the following day that I remembered quite clearly clocking at least a metre of space IN FRONT of the car. I must have looked raving mad. If I hadn't been doing this sort of thing now and again for years, I would be concerned.
And another from a few years ago when my oldest was a baby and I was similarly foggy in the brain. I bought a baby outfit in Tesco and thought on the way home that I'd like to have a look at the clothes selection in Asda. When I got home, I realised that my debit card was missing. My dutiful husband established that I'd left it at the till. 'Great, I thought,' this is my opportunity to go to Asda! So I turned up at Asda (having gone through the pantomime of buggys etc.) and requested my debit card from customer services. Eventually I realised that my debit card had not miraculously moved to the shop I wished to visit and sidled out.
Well, I walked to local shop, only to discover on my return that my trousers were inside out !!

Today I set out for my morning walk carrying 2 cards to post. When I arrived outside the Post Office, I discovered that I also had in my hand a bag of cat litter tray contents! I had meant to put it in my bin as I passed. Fortunately for the PO staff I didn't post it.
When I was visiting my sister in NZ, we set out to drive south to one of the many scenic areas of South Island. She had a black bag of refuse to be left at the bottom of the drive that led up to her house. When we arrived at our destination, what was in the boot? The black bag! As there were many holiday homes in the village, she did a recce, found a house with an empty bin and stashed her rubbish there.
This one is back from my student days, when I kept annoying my flatmate at the time nearly every day because I could never remember where I had put my shoes... One day she got so annoyed with me, she put them in our fridge, and "found" them there when of course I was looking for them again. Scatterbrain that I was (and still am!), I absolutely believed that for some reason I had put them there myself...
Coming out of the supermarket and crossing to the car park, I made my way to the area where I usually park my car, To my horror it wasn't there. It,s been stolen I thought, what should Ido? Looking around I saw the police station, of course that,s what I'll do report it stolen. I crossed the road, going over my actions since leaving home, whilst walking up the pathway and into the station. it was then it dawned on me, I had gone to the library first. OOps, I made a smart about turn and headed in the direction of the library. Thank God I hadn't reached the desk!
I'm beginning to feel less worried about myself. Thanks everyone smile

Oh, I see. Emoticons not working today
I've gone out twice (that I've noticed) in odd shoes. Once to work but at least they were both black, and the second time to the dentist. I was so embarrassed sitting in his chair with my feet up and the shoes so obviously different!
I work in an engineering company and last week I sent an order for some Buffers. At the bottom of the order I typed 'Please can you inform us when the Buggers have arrived'.
We had a good laugh when I rang to apologise.
Last time I visited DD she'd also invited DS & DIL for a meal. 'Sit down Mum' they said, so I enjoyed watching them cook while I relaxed. When we sat at the table, I was chatting away to the DGC while the meal was served, and put gravy onto their food...still talking to them. I heard DD say, 'MUM' and turned my head to see myself neatly filling my wineglass with gravy - then looked across the table into three pairs of eyes that said very clearly, 'Oh blimey, this is how it starts...!'
I only seem to make a stupid mistake in front of a particular friend who seems to think I'm losing the plot. This week I asked her if she received the card I sent her when she was ill. We had ready discussed this three weeks before. Naturally she picked me up on it.
when I worked as a community nurse I was loading the car with some supplies for another surgery to drop off. Whilst loading I put a box of penile sheaths on the roof, forgot they were there and drove off. These were later returned to the surgery by a giggling bunch of high scool boys!
I dreamt that I had taken new daughter in pram and 3yr daughter shopping , near end of shopping I wanted to go onto a big store ! But in those days prams were left outside, also I wanted the basement, in my dream I left baby and 3 yr old sitting on handle end saying won't be a minute! Then dashed down basement steps, here my dream changed ! And I remember hurrying home to cook dinner, hubby arrived , where are the girls ??
At this point I woke up in a sweat very distressed believing i had left girls outside shop in town !!
Then I realised it was just an awful dream !! But it was so real !!!
A few years back, whilst still working, I was being observed by an assessor who was there to decide whether or not I achieved my British Psychological Society Level A certification. The assessment was on a Wednesday - in the middle of a busy and quite stressful week / life!! I was doing quite well, I thought as I walked round the room checking my role playing candidates who were completing psychometric tests. The assessor was observing me minutely and I carried out all the checks and so forth, that I was expected to do. Returning to my facilitators desk, I smoothed my wrap skirt in preparation for sitting down...couldnt work out why it felt odd, till I looked down - and found that I was wearing it inside out! Of course I had to get up again to continue with the assessment - and my assessor must have noticed how flustered I had suddenly become! Somehow I passed the test, despite my mortification..but now, I always check my clothes especially carefully before I go out! Never again!
