Heading out to collect dgd from school so picked up car keys/phone/purse/cardi, left the house and turned to lock the door. It was only then I noticed that I didn't have any shoes on. Glanced around furtively to see if any of the neighbours had spotted me and shot back in for the shoes. Take 2 - managed to get as far as the car this time and then wondered why it wouldn't open. I was trying to unlock it with my mobile. Not the best of days!

Nice cup of Gold Blend, Wendy !

Wendy Tue 15-Sept-15 16:48:24

I put my gold watch in the teapot of the teasmade when we went on holiday safe from burglars. When we got back Dh put the teasmade on for tea in the morning. He was emptying the pot after and discovered my watch in the sink, a bit bemused, wondering if he had knocked it off the side into the sink!! It was difficult filling in the claim but the insurance co were very good about it and paid up. The jewellers couldn't believe it.

House full of family, seven people wanting to bathe or shower and the shower wouldn't work! Called the plumber in a panic and he very kindly agreed to come round that morning. Then on my way back upstairs I noticed that the floor level control switch outside the bathroom door was OFF. DH rang the plumber to explain. I could hear the hilarity at both ends of the phone. We blamed the youngest DGS.

Just yesterday I went down to the boiler room in the cellar to get some frozen mash (I'm a lazy c*w) I could faintly smell gas, so I took a look at the boiler. Couldn't see any "on" green light, so thought it must have gone out, but the switch was on. Tried switching off and on again - no change. Still a smell of gas.

So I went out the cellar door, leaving it wide open in case of fumes, back indoors and phoned the gas leak number. A nice young man took the details, told me to open doors and windows, not to turn any switches on or off (too late) and to evacuate the property! - someone would be there within the hour. So I went next-door and begged to be allowed to sit there until someone came. Had a nice cup of jasmine tea, but the gas van arrived before I could finish it.

The engineer couldn't smell anything, but checked all around, told me the light WAS on but was very faint (invisible except in the dark) and went to check around the meter.

While he was gone, I had another sniff. Very faint, but more to my left that my right. Followed my nose till I reached the waste bin. Smell much stronger there. In it I found - two brussels sprouts which had fallen out of the freezer a few days ago and been lobbed in the bin. Engineer returned and could smell it now. Luckily he had a sense of humour (and stayed chatting for half an hour before departing. Well, it was Sunday and he was on overtime.

I've done a lot of funny things in the past. But the most recent one was I was in a supermarket at the checkout. The cashier was looking very droll/miserable. When it came time to pay I searched everywhere for my glasses, there was a queue behind me so I started to feel anxious, I said " I cant find my glasses" then realised I HAD THEM ON!!!!! The cashier was laughing and said I had made her day, the queue were laughing too and so was I !!

Oh dear! I have done many of things listed by gransnetters, such as trying to get in the wrong car because it looked like mine, driven off with a loaf and chicken on the roof of the car, put there while I fiddled with keys, odd shoes, left my toddler son outside a shop and walking past him and thinking what a lovely child (I think he's over it - he's in his 30s now), forgot I'd parked my car at work and went home on the bus then panicked because it wasn't on the drive at home. I could go on and on...

However, one episode that still sticks in my mind is when I was walking around at the hospital where I worked and as I reached my hand into the pocket of my skirt to get a key, I thought how odd it was because I couldn't find the pocket which I knew I had in that particular skirt. After much messing about another thought struck me, what were the strange dangling loops hanging off the waistband? You've guessed it - I had put my skirt on inside out - a tiered ethnic job which look very faded inside out. I had already had a meeting with a Consultant Surgeon and had a conversation with senior nursing staff and no-one had said a thing!

I once went out for dinner with two watches on . . . every day one and best.

Been out with one navy and one black shoe on . . . same design, so easy to mix up when you're in a hurry.

Also ended up at the wrong funeral and wondered why I didn't recognize anyone there!

Tried to open another car with my remote key fob.

Went to change my top for a visit to an exhibition. Took all my clothes off ready for bed!

My first post, just had to join in. I came out of work one day to find a dent in my car by my my front headlight. A few weeks later I came out of a shop, back to my car which I had reversed in to a parking space. Wow I thought, my husband had had my car repaired for me as a surprise. I was stroking the bodywork admiring the good job done when I realised - not my car. I looked around as you do, so embarrassed, thanking God there was no car alarm.
Thank you ladies for the laughs.

About ten years ago I went to the supermarket in my little white car. When I came out, I went to it , opened the door with my key, started to get in and realised that the upholstery was different. Quick exit! Only thing is, as I was getting out the real owner arrived and said, "Caught you!" Oh how embarrassing! Fortunately he believed me. My car was just two cars along so I did point it out to him and we had a good laugh about it.

I've been trying to put this one to the back of my mind because it's so embarrassing. I took a fellow member to a NHR meeting. When it ended, another member asked for a lift home and I agreed. Off we went to my car and it wasn't until we were back in the village that I realised that there were only two of us in the car. As soon as I got back into the house, I phoned the evening's hostess who assured me that my missing passenger had secured a lift with another member. I must have been forgiven, as she gave me a lift last night. Now I must go and pick her up to go to the theatre. smile

A few years back, whilst still working, I was being observed by an assessor who was there to decide whether or not I achieved my British Psychological Society Level A certification. The assessment was on a Wednesday - in the middle of a busy and quite stressful week / life!! I was doing quite well, I thought as I walked round the room checking my role playing candidates who were completing psychometric tests. The assessor was observing me minutely and I carried out all the checks and so forth, that I was expected to do. Returning to my facilitators desk, I smoothed my wrap skirt in preparation for sitting down...couldnt work out why it felt odd, till I looked down - and found that I was wearing it inside out! Of course I had to get up again to continue with the assessment - and my assessor must have noticed how flustered I had suddenly become! Somehow I passed the test, despite my mortification..but now, I always check my clothes especially carefully before I go out! Never again! blush

I dreamt that I had taken new daughter in pram and 3yr daughter shopping , near end of shopping I wanted to go onto a big store ! But in those days prams were left outside, also I wanted the basement, in my dream I left baby and 3 yr old sitting on handle end saying won't be a minute! Then dashed down basement steps, here my dream changed ! And I remember hurrying home to cook dinner, hubby arrived , where are the girls ??
At this point I woke up in a sweat very distressed believing i had left girls outside shop in town !!
Then I realised it was just an awful dream !! But it was so real !!!

when I worked as a community nurse I was loading the car with some supplies for another surgery to drop off. Whilst loading I put a box of penile sheaths on the roof, forgot they were there and drove off. These were later returned to the surgery by a giggling bunch of high scool boys!

I only seem to make a stupid mistake in front of a particular friend who seems to think I'm losing the plot. This week I asked her if she received the card I sent her when she was ill. We had ready discussed this three weeks before. Naturally she picked me up on it.

Last time I visited DD she'd also invited DS & DIL for a meal. 'Sit down Mum' they said, so I enjoyed watching them cook while I relaxed. When we sat at the table, I was chatting away to the DGC while the meal was served, and put gravy onto their food...still talking to them. I heard DD say, 'MUM' and turned my head to see myself neatly filling my wineglass with gravy - then looked across the table into three pairs of eyes that said very clearly, 'Oh blimey, this is how it starts...!' grin

I work in an engineering company and last week I sent an order for some Buffers. At the bottom of the order I typed 'Please can you inform us when the Buggers have arrived'.

We had a good laugh when I rang to apologise.grin

I've gone out twice (that I've noticed) in odd shoes. Once to work but at least they were both black, and the second time to the dentist. I was so embarrassed sitting in his chair with my feet up and the shoes so obviously different!

Coming out of the supermarket and crossing to the car park, I made my way to the area where I usually park my car, To my horror it wasn't there. It,s been stolen I thought, what should Ido? Looking around I saw the police station, of course that,s what I'll do report it stolen. I crossed the road, going over my actions since leaving home, whilst walking up the pathway and into the station. it was then it dawned on me, I had gone to the library first. OOps, I made a smart about turn and headed in the direction of the library. Thank God I hadn't reached the desk!

This one is back from my student days, when I kept annoying my flatmate at the time nearly every day because I could never remember where I had put my shoes... One day she got so annoyed with me, she put them in our fridge, and "found" them there when of course I was looking for them again. Scatterbrain that I was (and still am!), I absolutely believed that for some reason I had put them there myself...

When I was visiting my sister in NZ, we set out to drive south to one of the many scenic areas of South Island. She had a black bag of refuse to be left at the bottom of the drive that led up to her house. When we arrived at our destination, what was in the boot? The black bag! As there were many holiday homes in the village, she did a recce, found a house with an empty bin and stashed her rubbish there.
