Well, he's surpassed himself !!

My postie is really wonderful. He always leaves bulky mail in my safe place if I'm not in. He comes here at noon or later, but the other day I saw him delivering in the village centre and realised that he must be doing two rounds each day.

Today is Saturday and my post arrived at 5pm! I thought that he had been earlier. I sometimes see him walking around delivering at 6.30pm. during the week. Very rarely do we receive anything before 9am, usually late pm.

My post arrived today at 5.30pm, very late for a Saturday.

Give the posties a break - as a pp said, posties now have to sort their own post before they start their round (as all the people who used to do this job have been 'let go' in the name of efficiency (?!?!) and financial constraints).
After they have delivered their own round, they may have to go back to the office to sort and then deliver someone else's round, as there are no 'relief' staff any more, so if someone is off sick/on leave their letters and parcels have to be delivered as a 'second' post by someone who has already done their own round...!
Like all other organisations being 'slimmed down' for privatisation, lots of staff were made redundant - with no real thought about how this would impact on the service - simply to save money and make it more attractive to investors. There was just the assumption that the remaining staff would 'pick up the slack' - i.e.do twice the work for the same pay...
Can you tell that I know a postie..??

My DH is a postman. He starts at 6.30am and some days doesn't get back to tje office til 9.30pm. They have to sort mail into walks before they leave the office, and wait for any miss sorted post to come from the main sorting office before they go out. He and his mate take two walks in the van and then come back and take walks that aren't covered due to sickness and holidays. There is an official finish time and often post is brought back as the walk can't be finished in the time allotted by the computer. That then has to be taken out by someone else on overtime. Your post is late? The way the system doesn't work, you should be grateful it comes at all.

It might help if letterboxes were by the gate. Then posties would not have so far to walk or dodge dogs, We have to put our rubbish by the gate and iwe should pick up our post there.

Do all apartment blocks have letter boxes at the entranc?

Ours is any time between 1 pm and 4.30. Who gets it in the morning, I wonder? Saturdays, it's around 11 am, so why can't it be that time during the week?

I think we are very lucky, our postie comes everyday between 11.30am and 12noon, and on the odd occasion he is late, he always apologises if I see him. A really nice young guy.
