......Well, and there was me on this thread the other day, extolling the benefits of Morrisons' 25% off six bottles an' all! "Someone" had other ideas though, because I'm now on a low dose of antibiotics FOR A MONTH and on the blurb that comes with the meds it says, "Do not drink alcohol with this medicine." Making a positive out of a negative, think of the money I will save.....and I can join Dry September, if a little late!

Hi all, I DID IT - Saturday nothing at all to drink even though hubby kept asking if I wanted anything and today (Sunday) I've had nothing before or during lunch and watched hubby drink whole bottle in front of me. I only want to hold out until our wedding anniversary at beginning of October. So I'm feeling just a little optimistic now. Congratulations to everyone who has completed the week.

Oh forgot to say about Australia - I'm going on a cruise with my son (I'm his carer and people in wheelchairs aren't allowed on ships without a companion) so we're off to Hong Kong for an overnight as he can't travel too long without a stop then on to Sydney with another overnight before embarking for a 21 day cruise!! His passion is travel and since it is really the only part of his life he still has since a brain tumour left him with multiple problems we travel quite a bit - but it is exhausting.

Firstly - well done Gill - that's got to be hard!! DH is mostly doing this with me - he had one glass on Friday and one last night but he said he really doesn't enjoy drinking on his own!! Bless
Australia sounds like a wonderful experience though exhausting, so sorry to hear about your son but how wonderful that you can enjoy these experiences with him. Have you been to Aus before ...? Where will the cruise take you? Keep on carrying on - you are clearly a strong lady xx

Well done Gill and everyone. By my reckoning that was day 6/30 so we're 1/5 of the way through.

I hosted a family get together tonight and didn't feel the urge to imbibe. Having pinned my colours to the mast I think my DiL would have forceably removed any from my hand - she's like that!

I'm off to Jersey on Friday morning and that will be the real test

Finding it suspiciously easy jg - usually I struggle to have a couple of 'dry' days (really enoy that early evening glass of red - and then another with dinner). I think it must be some kind of mind set.

I did once give up for 100 days, for a bet, and that wasn't difficukt either, but then I happily picked up again at the end of the time. Weird.

I have to admit I'm finding it easier than I thought it would be! When I feel like a ... I just distract myself and then the moment is gone. benefits are small weight loss, saving money and no embarrassment when putting the recycling box out on Tuesday mornings...

I'm developing a serious 'light' ginger beer habit!

9/30 = 3/10 = 30% of the way through. I did browse the 'alcohol free' section at local Sainsbury's today but didn't buy any because

1) it wasn't wholly free as it had 0.05% alcohol content
2) I didn't think it was in the true spirit of the challenge and
3) I bet it tastes like cat pee horrid

Great minds and all that Anya... I had that very same discussion with DH this evening! We have some 'alcohol-free' wine in the fridge (0.05%) and we thought it would go nicely with a baked camembert .... but I just couldn't do it - it did feel as though I would be cheating so it was back to lime juice with sparkling water and the low alcohol cat pee wine is back on the shelf ...

Mmmm... not sure - it's a bit of both really! Weekends are hardest for me but clearly not impossible

Today we've enjoyed a tour of North Wales sandy beaches bathed in sunshine, I hope you get some on St Helier tomorrow - have fun. I can see you now sipping your LOOL as if it were some sophisticated cocktail X

Had a lovely afternoon discovering St. Helier but was so tired after an early start and so much walking I decided to eat in the hotel. Big mistake. The little shit in charge Ma??tre D' sat me in a dark corner and was not happy when I asked to be moved. Then he made a fuss because he couldn't (allegedy) identify my room number so I stood up and said 'I don't think I'll bother' just as another couple, put down their menu and said 'neither will we' .

Luckily they had a bar serving 'light meals'
So opted for calamari and diet coke.
