Day One of my personal challenge, no alcohol for September - anyone care to join me ...? brew

janeainsworth Wed 02-Sept-15 22:13:23

Just catching up. Well done anya jg and gill

Liz the amount of fruit juice that goes into the water from 3 or 4 slices is so small that it won't do your teeth any harm. Most of the flavour comes from the oil in the skin of the fruit, so no need to worry smile

Dentist very nice man gave me the all clear.
Have two glasses of LOOL and a brew not allowed cupcake as on low carb diet. Munched on a piece of Manchego grin>

Anya Wed 02-Sept-15 22:20:53

How you and Gill doing?

Maggiemaybe Wed 02-Sept-15 22:28:07

Water with cucumber and mint is also very refreshing, in the absence of a nice glass of wine.

jogginggirl Wed 02-Sept-15 22:55:08

All good here Anya - another glass of LOOL for me then off to bed with my book - Day 2 done and dusted ... grin well done to us and gill

Maggiemaybe thanks for the cucumber and mint tip - a bit like a pimms but without the pimms ...lol!! Your wine emoticon caused me to drool a little wink

Day 3 woke up with a wooly head which seems most unfair [grumpy faced emoticon]
But GSs 1&3 arrived so that brought a smile back.
Sent them off with DH to get pizza makings so they can make their own lunch while my pupil came for piano lesson. She's a primary teacher so, now schools are going back, I've arranged for her to come on a Wednesday evening....this is a Cunning Plan on my part as it means I cannot drink that night grin

No chance this month! It's my birthday next week and then we're ff to England in 2weeks for my GS christening and hopefully (if he's not late) the birth of another GS! Also on Sunday we are wishing farewell to 2 good friends who are returning to England for good! I think it's going to be a boozy month[wine wine]

I like your style and thinking Anya - I am out this evening and there will be wine but I have requested soft drinks only sad and tomorrow/weekend will be a real test! We always have a glass of bubbles on Friday night followed by a 'red-wine steak night' - DS will be here with GD - yikes!! DH has only said he will abstain during the week so I may be on my own tomorrow - to be fair though DS doesn't have more than one! On the positive side I am feeling quite determined ... I know it's early days but onwards and upwards. Sorry about the woolly head Anya - that does seem unfair!! How is it going with you gill ...?
nonna - definitely excused this month - what's a celebration without a toast wine Have fun! smile

jogginggirl Thu 03-Sept-15 14:28:00

Whoops! That was meant to be a 'woolly sheep' emoticon - I forgot they don't work on here ... blush

Me too brew

jogginggirl Fri 04-Sept-15 00:02:12

First social event tonight since I started my September Dryathlon... There was plenty of alcohol available and I wasn't even tempted smile I'm beginning to enjoy this challenge and what we have saved on wine this week has gone towards buying two warm jackets for two refugees in Calais via Amazon - hope all is going well with you Anya and gill smile

Anya Fri 04-Sept-15 10:29:02

Stressful weekend ahead. Had some bad, but not totally unexpected, news. But, because this situation is most likely a direct result of alcohol abuse it will only harden my resolve.

Hi - not doing well husband is up to his old tricks and bringing bottles home and before I know it he has opened the red in front of me and put it to stand. If only he would just buy white - I'm the red drinker. Shall try again today.

I need to do this i have to lose weight for an operation, and have been buying summer clothes in the sales in a smaller size because of a cruise in March to Australia! HELP.

jogginggirl Fri 04-Sept-15 18:24:13

Sorry to hear that Anya - I hope you find some bright spots over the next few days flowers xxx
Gill - my resolve will be tested this evening as Friday is always a glass of fizz and then a nice bottle of red wine to go with the steak. You stick to your guns and the weight loss will happen - I'm counting on it too!! A cruise to Australia, sounds fab - how long for ...? xx

Anya Sat 05-Sept-15 08:54:38

i'm lucky JG as I have my two GSs with me, all yesterday and today, and they always make me grin Last night was difficult but I'm pleased I only hit the carbs (toast) and not the wine, though it was touch and go.

This thread is a great idea for support. Just acknowledging some times are harder than others, putting it into words, takes the edge of it.

jogginggirl Sat 05-Sept-15 17:44:26

Oh the little ones do make the difference don't they Anya ...? I have my DS and DGD with me this weekend and I haven't really stopped to take a breath. There was a shepherd's pie to make for dinner, a flourless chocolate cake for pud and a trip to the local swimming baths - now there's bath time, dinner and Strictly!! I'll be asleep in the corner before I even know it!!

Having support is great when you find yourself weakening - but look we are nearly at our first full week - grin grin - congratulations!! And to you Gill - hope you are managing to hang on in there smile

Cherrytree59 Sat 05-Sept-15 18:48:08

Hi can't join in on your september challenge as I'm afraid all alcohol tastes like vinegar to me. I feel I'm missing out on its relaxing effects. But my downfall is anything sweet so if you think this might be your october challenge then I will happily join you. Thinking about It I must also scrape all my Dgs left overs in to the bin not my mouth! Wishing you all the will power in the world. Shall be following your progress

jogginggirl Sat 05-Sept-15 23:13:48

That explains a lot then Cherrytree59 - I've always liked vinegar grin I'm not sure about giving up anything sweet for an October challenge - I am more inclined to get fit through exercise - maybe start running again...shock There's no reason though why we can't choose to do different challenges - but still offer each other support and encouragement. Maybe a new thread - 'This Month's Challenge" ...? Any thoughts?

rubylady Sun 06-Sept-15 01:17:14

No, sorry. I've not had an alcoholic drink for months now but my DD gets married next week and seeing that me and her brother are NOT invited, we will drink a toast to her anyway, in our own way. So Cheers, R and M, may God bless you. wine

Anya Sun 06-Sept-15 07:38:14

Like the idea of the Monthly Challenge JG

Anya Sun 06-Sept-15 07:39:34
