DH irons everything because he says it relaxes him. Fine by me. He also does his own washing plus household stuff and any odds and ends to fill the machine. Pegs out and brings in. As Nina said, I hate the way he pegs it out, e.g. Shirts hung from shoulder, sheets folded over the line, but never mind, at least he deals with it. He won't cook though, and I feel that's fair as he does the boring bits whereas I quite enjoy putting a meal together. He clears and fills, then empties th d/w

Bellanonna I think we are married to identical twins! You could be describing my DH except mine doesn't iron. I do that if needed.

He also cleans the bathroom and loos and sees to the bins and helps me in the garden. He's a treasure and I wouldn't be without him!

A lady I worked with years ago said to me once 'Don't men peg washing out in a funny way'. On the rare occasions mine has put some out, I have the urge to re-do it but don't want him to have the 'I can't do anything right' face on.

DH doesn't do washing because since he retired he does all the cooking. I hate cooking but enjoy washing and hanging it out - (nowadays, without the daily shirt, I even quite enjoy ironing, mainly for the smell!) - so it works out quite well. I also do the dishwasher because nobody else can fit everything in correctly. Nobody else, including DH and DC, can hang out washing correctly either, IMO, but I know what you mean about the face if you re-do it, KatyK.

I've never divided whites form coloureds unless there is some new dark item which I don't trust not to run. With my ancient top loader I can put it with a dark load and watch the water running through to see if the colour runs, and if not, it just goes in with everything else next time. With only 2 of us now, I'd wait for weeks to get a load if I couldn't put it all in together.

Yes whenIwas that's why we couldn't do our own washing- not enough to make a load. My H does a lot in the garden and in the kitchen, but sabotaging my sorted washing .........grrrr

I refuse to iron anything which was put in the basket still buttoned up, don't know why it is so difficult to unbutton a shirt before taking it off.

I find all sorts of things in the washing including money. All money found anywhere in the house goes in the charity box but nothing deters him.

One reason why DH doesn't do washing is that, although he bought the machine while I was safely away having DD2 (having always said that I didn't need an automatic as the twin tub was fine) and did a good few loads of nappies and clothes for us all, there came a day when I found him about to put on a load containing jumpers at 90º! I suspected that he did it on purpose having though that I was back on the strength, and to be fair, he had a ridiculously demanding job to go to. However, I banned him for many years after that.

Your bedding is at least one wash. Then there's your clothes and underwear, towels, curtains.
I have two four seater settees with loose covers and they are washed regularly. And as for mixing whites with anything, no no no.

I do all the laundry ( and like it that way) but now there is a mention of curtains, which prompts me to tell you, that recently I have washed all the curtains in the house, they all have labels that scream DRY CLEAN ONLY,
But having found out the price of dry cleaning them all, I thought I would give it a go, otherwise I may as well buy all new curtains! So, with some trepidation, I washed one curtain at a time on a 30 degree wash, on the programme that only takes half an hour. they came out perfectly, and just damp and ready to hang, no need to iron ( I whisked them out of the washer
The moment the machine stopped.What a result.So, I then washed a furry throw, and a load of cushion covers, all previously dry cleaned, with the same great results.No more dry cleaning bills.

I did the same with my (very long) living room curtains a few months ago, roses, except that I put them one by one in the tumble dryer for a short time then hung them.

I think they did shrink about half an inch, but it wasn't noticeable as they were too long anyway!

Oh, I forgot the cushion covers, I have a lot of those.

Ana, why would I need them. As I said, both settees are loose covers. I wouldn't have any other.

My DH has been known to find the ironing and wash AND tumble dry it!

I hope the next generation of males are house-trained. I know that my sons' partners wouldn't let them get away with not pulling their weight around the house. Both are very good at ironing.
